A word from Farmhouse Tavern - Chicago
Farmhouse is a Midwestern Craft Tavern focused on delivering warm hospitality, great beer and wonderful food in a comfortable neighborhood setting in the heart of River North. Focused on the Midwest, Farmhouse offers 28 beers on draft, 24 from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. We feature local artisanal liquors and a cocktail program created by Adam Seger.

The menu ingredients are harvested from local farmers and change with the Midwestern seasons. Farmhouse offers locally sourced, pastured raised burgers, cuts their our own fries and makes almost everything from scratch on premise. We are a green tavern. 85% of the building materials, furniture and fixtures were salvaged from an abandoned factory on the South Side.

Much of the seating at Farmhouse consists of community tables, seating between eight and ten guests, encouraging a convivial atmosphere. Please be aware that smaller parties are often seated at community tables.

Diner Reviews
  • "I've been to dinner at Farmhouse before and liked it, but this time we did brunch. Their brunch menu is tasty and it was difficult to pick just one thing! Everything was very good, and we would definitely go back. "

  • "All food and drink is locally sourced. Farmhouse takes it a step further and creates flavorful food pairings. Excellent, knowledgable service. I recommend the jerky and nuts to start paired with your choice of one of their many amazing craft beers."

  • "I love the farm to table concept, especially when the menu rotates on a regular basis. My only complaint is the slowness of kitchen/service. Our server during lunch explained that it was due the fact that the kitchen is only able to make 2 - entrees at a time. However, there were 5 other tables (1 with 6 people) all of whom had their meals prior to us & we ordered prior to them. If I hadn't worked in the restaurant business previously, I wouldn't have noticed all of this detail. I will come back, b/c again I love the concept & the food was delicious, just probably not for lunch during a workday."

  • "Food was really good. Got the grilled romaine. In town visiting and the waitress gave my girlfriend and I a list of a bunch of places to check out, which was awesome"

  • "We're a farm-to-table family and love trying places like Farmhouse. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding and the ambience fun yet intimate. It's a definite repeat place for us on our next trip to Chicago!"

  • "Nice diversion from the normal food scene in Chicago. Food was very good and I liked the "Farm" decor. This is a good place to have lunch and is not too far from downtown."

  • "Went for Sunday brunch, trying to seek out farm-to-table style restaurants, we were not disappointed. Friendly, unhurried service, kitchen agreeable to "customizing", we ordered Short Rib Hash, Midwestern Benedict, The Farm Egg Scramble, Biscuit, Cinnamon Roll, and a Stu's Bloody Mary ( for $12 I want the entire pickle spear). The only thing I would not reorder would be the Cinnamon Roll, for caloric trade-off, good but not amazing. Hopefully they will change up their breakfast Sweet offering occasionally. Street parking available. We will definitely be back to try lunch and dinner."

  • "Need to try other stuff on the menu, but I love the white bean kale soup and the smashed potatoes. A new favorite, will be back. Can't wait for warm weather so they can set the tables outside."

  • "Had never heard of it before a friend made the suggestion. Like the atmosphere and idea -- executed well so I'll be back. Looking forward to trying more of the dishes. Curious to know if they have brunch."

  • "We really enjoy Farmhouse. It's creative twists on familiar foods - wholesome and delicious. The service is friendly and the vibe is relaxed. I've enjoyed all of the drinks and all of the food. I'm a big fan of the chicken sandwich (lunch) and the fish and chips. We were given some sort of dessert that had choclate and peanutbutter."

  • "My friend and I ended up here on St. Patrick's day, out of all places. She order the corn beef and hash, which was a special, and came in a remarkably small portion. Small enough to called a side salad. To say the least we were surprised, but was made up for when a small chicken salad was brought out on the house."

  • "We were catching up with out of state friends and wanted something unique, not overly pricy with good beer. The Farmhouse was perfect. The staff was amazing, I wish every restraint I visit was as knowledgeable and attentive. If I had to have a negative the portions are a tad small but I didn't leave hungry."

  • "I've been to Farmhouse for both lunch and dinner and had great experiences both times. What I love most is the atmosphere and the crowd; I often find little bars in Chicago to be stifling, loud and packed on a Saturday night, but Farmhouse had a fun vibe with a bar full of people, without feeling too crazy or overwhelmed. Great place if you're looking to have a great dinner out with friends or a significant other without having to scream at each other. Food is great and very fresh (my favorites are the pretzel, cheese curds and lemon tart); drinks are phenomenal and well worth the wait--peach ginger cider was by far the best cider I've ever had, and I was over the moon for their gin cocktails (try The Swing and the Late Harvest)!"

  • "I do not know how I can more highly recommend Farmhouse. It was rustic, fun, and well-lit (for lunch). We loved all of our food. May I suggest the chicken sandwich? It was the star of the show this particular meal. I was also a big fan of the beet salad. Service and ambiance tied our experience together seamlessly."

  • "Excellent spot for Sunday brunch, if you can deal with poor service. Was not greeted by the receptionist upon arrival and waited about ten minutes at our table before being greeted by our server. Food was excellent. Staff were grouchy."

  • "I had the leek risotto. It was very tasty! I wish I could've tried the cheese curds, but I gave up fried food for lent."

  • "We went here around 5:00 for dinner, not too crowded yet the service was super slow. Took forever to get our drinks. The seating was very tight, uncomfortable. I ordered the pork, one piece was was raw one piece was cooked. Beer menu was a bit slim."

  • "In order of importance: Good soups - the cauliflower soup was quite good; the chicken soup was very good. Good / ok mains - spouse says fish and chips were good; I say the burger was mediocre at best because it was firm bordering on dry and had an odd flavor (reminiscent of kefta kabob at Pita Inn.) Fries: not terrible, but we expected more from Farmhouse. The Manhattan was also quite good. On previous visits, we have also generally liked the sides and starters better than the mains; so i will stick to those next time."

  • "My husband and I went to Farmhouse for restaurant week and had a great time! Their menu had some really good options and our server was very kind and helpful. Overall my experience was above average, I would definitely go back and try out their regular menu. My only complaint was our table, which was a very tight fit in the corner right next to the bathroom, not that great for date night. Otherwise, job well done, Farmhouse!"

  • "Great ambiance, cool decor, great servers, poor food. I can see a lot of amateur foodies liking this place without realizing the food is sub par. Fish was too salty and falling apart, meatloaf was dry, sweet potato dessert was sour. And the icing on the cake is that it's really pricey. They get you in thinking it's a chic hipster place. I am not fooled."

  • "Pros: Love the concept, the location, and the food, great tables, easy parking, next to train. Cons: Sat right next to the cold door swinging open (hostess insisted that it was "hot" inside the place that day), portions are super small, waitor took forever to get us water, brunch took 2 hours, plan on enough time in your meter if you drive here."

  • "My wife and I went for restaurant week and were not disappointed. Food was very good, service was excellent. Overall, it was quiet, although it was a Sunday night. For appetizers we had the cheese curds and the salad. The curds were good albeit a little greasy. The salad was refreshing. For entrees, I had the meatloaf which was delicious. Good texture, great flavor. My wife had the chicken which was also well cooked and had a very nice flavor. Overall, a very nice experience. We will definitely be back."

  • "Another great meal at Farmhouse. My friends and I loved the short ribs and the chocolate peanut butter dessert. Great to see Solemn Oath beer from Naperville on tap."

  • "The restaurant is nice, the food good overall though the risotto was a bit plain. The service was SLOW and at times non-existent. My friend waited ten minutes before she could get someone's attention to get a spoon for her soup which she ate with a fork until it arrived. She also ordered a beer that took 2 requests and 20 minutes to receive. I waited way too long for another wine. And sadly the restaurant was not even full. I probably won't go back since there are so many places in this town that don't have any of these problems."

  • "We had a great table across from the bar and the staff was super friendly and helpful, including making an excellent beer recommendation from a vague description of "I like these types of things". The restaurant is known for its focus on local and that made for a really standout drinks menu. Mead is something you usually read about in Old English Literature but here it's on the menu! With that said, I thought the food was really underwhelming: we tried a number of salads and the dressings were uninspiring; our burgers were fine but nothing special (the homemade ketchup completely lacked personality)."

  • "Farmhouse has become a staple for me. It's that perfect moderately priced restaurant that fits everyone's tastes and supplements with great drinks. I've been there with groups, on dates, for brunch, for lunch, for dinner. It's always a solid experience, always a nice atmosphere. I highly recommend their bloody mary."

  • "Having just moved here from Seattle I was excited to find a place that really embraced the farm-to-table mentality that pervades the pacific northwest, and to which I've grown accustomed. The ambiance was great for a date with my wife on our first night in town. Service was attentive, but not overly so. Food was very good. The cheese curds, of course, were delicious, as was my pork chop and brined beans. While the beer list is extensive, it's over priced. What's up with all of the 12 oz. pours of anything over 5%, Chicago? I've seen this in multiple places now, and I just don't get it, I realize I've been spoiled in Seattle, but cmon. With that said I've visited the Evanston location after work several times now, and will continue to do so."

  • "We felt like we made the right choice the minute we walked in the door! The GM Mike was so cordial and made sure we were comfortable at all times . Sam our waiter was so knowledgable of the foods and the regions they were from and described in detail the beers. My husband is a HUGE IPA FAN & Sam made recommendations that enhanced everything we ate! Ferdia, the owner, made us feel like we were in his home. We were more than impressed and Farmhouse is a "diamond". We'll be back, for sure."

  • "Great food, but slow service. The staff was very friendly which totally compensated for the slowness. The food was outstanding. We ordered appetizers, drinks and a main course each. Cozy and upbeat at the same time."

  • "This place, though adorable from the standpoint of the use of reclaimed materials, was not thought out very well when designed. The wainscoting above the banquette seating on the west well hits you in the shoulder, so you can not sit comfortably unless leaning on your elbows. The spray that they use to clean the tables was so noxiously aromatic that I almost ran out of the place. The chicken soup was good, the duck and chicken entrees were lacking in flavor and presentation. Entrees looked and tasted amateurish. Biting into a pit in the sour cherries accompanying the duck was a memorable experience. Our companions were okay with their burgers and fries. Perhaps this is their level of expertise. Will not return, will not recommend."

  • "I like the concept and decor, but execution was poor. Wine list was strange and lacking, service was knowledgeable but with a bit of unnecessary attitude and the food was ok, but not special in any way. Meat was tough and overly salted."

  • "Had some really awesome food this past Saturday at Farmhouse. Sam, our waiter, was extremely knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the pig ear dish, the cauliflower soup, and the duck. We will be back soon...."

  • "Was in Chicago for a conference and found this great farm to table restaurant on a number of websites. There were 6 of us and we had a little of everything. The roasted butternut squash soup was one of the best of its kind I have ever tasted. The fried cheese curds were hot and gooey and yummy. All of our food was very good and the wait staff was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable about their food. We were there at the start of the fall menu. We sat up front at the window table and our only complaint was that it was really noisy and difficult to hear your dinner companions. Other than that, great place, great food, great service."

  • "Very good local beers and drinks. Food is pretty good, although the prices are a little steep for what you get. I really recommend the pork chop currently on their fall menu and the cheese curds as an appetizer. Would go back again in a heartbeat"

  • "Had a weird experience here. Server was very attentive to our friends, but sorely lacking to us. Appetizers came out in a timely manner, but my entree appeared 10 minutes after everyone else was served. Server never came back to check with us or offer any apology. The same thing happened with our check at the end of the meal. I had to ask the bartender to get our waiter so we could pay our check and leave with our friends. The food, however, made up for this inattention. Nicely presented. My butternut squash soup was excellent as were the fried cheese curds. Many entrees are presented on planks. Noise level was very loud. Decor is cute with many items coming from re purposing old barn materials."
