A word from Farmhouse Tavern - Chicago
Farmhouse is a Midwestern Craft Tavern focused on delivering warm hospitality, great beer and wonderful food in a comfortable neighborhood setting in the heart of River North. Focused on the Midwest, Farmhouse offers 28 beers on draft, 24 from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. We feature local artisanal liquors and a cocktail program created by Adam Seger.

The menu ingredients are harvested from local farmers and change with the Midwestern seasons. Farmhouse offers locally sourced, pastured raised burgers, cuts their our own fries and makes almost everything from scratch on premise. We are a green tavern. 85% of the building materials, furniture and fixtures were salvaged from an abandoned factory on the South Side.

Much of the seating at Farmhouse consists of community tables, seating between eight and ten guests, encouraging a convivial atmosphere. Please be aware that smaller parties are often seated at community tables.

Diner Reviews
  • "Definitely worth returning. Casual atmosphere but not out of place when I dressed up. Great food and great beer selection! My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here and it was fantastic. We shared an appetizer and our entrée and were each able to eat dessert!"

  • "We have dined here numerous times and have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu changes seasonally and everything is well prepared and presented. We especially enjoy the selection of craft beers. Farmhouse is a great spot for a delicious meal."

  • "Enjoyed this farm-to-table restaurant. Menu choices were creative, delicious and the serving staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. I tried one of the local white wines and was pleased with its flavor and balance."

  • "Great food, servers who know what they're talking about, and a good setting for talking and for groups. The food was wonderful, the cheese curds were great and the sauces they came in were delicious, the salads and the burgers according to my friends were on point, and filleted trouts was delicious. I love fish with the head on, and they did a great job filleting the fish."

  • "We had a great time with at The Farmhouse. The food was awesome. My only complaint - we had a reservation, but we sat way in the back...by the bathrooms. :("

  • "Food was fantastic! I recommend the cheese curds, bone-in pork chop and fish and chips. All were delicious!!!! Service was ok. Not sure if it's their "gig" or not, but our waiter didn't seem very happy to be there or take care of us. We were a group of 7 so maybe they just like smaller tables. I'm not sure I'd go back for this reason, but the food might entice me, it was really good, it's what prompted me to give it a four star rating."

  • "BLT Bloodies are out of control. Man v Food destination for good reason!"

  • "Service was great but food (e.g., hamburger) was a bit bland and rather average"

  • "The wait person seemed very inexperienced. The pacing was poor and he came off as condescending. Somehow he seemed to think that because we had never been to this restaurant, we didn't know what organic or locally sourced food was. He wasn't familiar with several of the items on the menu. He seemed much more concerned with turning over our table than with providing us with good or even useful service. The food was very good, but not earth shattering. The whole experience was a bit annoying and pretentious. They are not good enough to have earned that kind of attitude."

  • "Simple yet slightly different comfort food. Wish it were quieter. Great beer list. The Amish chicken is still my favorite. Moist flavorful without overdone seasonings."

  • "We were looking for a last minute place to eat and found the Farmhouse via Open Table. We were not disappointed- the food was great, the server was helpful and friendly (David) and the atmosphere is pretty cool. My husband had the burger (which was really good especially the fries) and I had the steak special- melted in my mouth. Everything was really good from the cheese platter app to the bread pudding dessert! Good thing we had to walk home. We will be back!"

  • "The food was great and I really liked the ambiance. The cheese curds were amazing and I loved the dipping sauce. I also had the steak breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. Lots of yummy brunch options. Haven't had dinner but everything was so good I look forward to coming back and trying dinner. "

  • "We went there for an early dinner - 6PM. I made the reservation for 3 people, but we had four. They said they could accommodate us, but it would have to be at a communal table. It was totally fine and there was still space between us and the other group, but it was a bit odd as all of the other tables around us were empty for the entire time we were there. It wasn't an issue, but it was a bit strange. Food and service was great. "

  • "Can't say enough about our experience at Farmhouse Tavern. I'm a Chicagoan always looking for new places to try and Farmhouse did not disappoint. Wonderful food and spirits sourced locally. Sam, our waiter, was great. Great atmosphere. I'll be returning. "

  • "If you're going to wash tables with a spray bottle, don't hold the spray bottle two feet above the table. You'll spray the customers sitting adjacent to the dirty table. Luckily our food wasn't on our table as our meals would have been sprayed, but instead we were. I'll go back again, just not pleased with this brunch visit."

  • "The group enjoyed a perfect spring night outside on the patio. The food was great, but our waiter seemed a little rushed. The special root beer was amazing! And the cheese curds... as always."

  • "All food and drink is locally sourced. Farmhouse takes it a step further and creates flavorful food pairings. Excellent, knowledgable service. I recommend the jerky and nuts to start paired with your choice of one of their many amazing craft beers."

  • "I love the local wines and food selections. Nice that they cater to Midwest tastes."

  • "I love the farm to table concept, especially when the menu rotates on a regular basis. My only complaint is the slowness of kitchen/service. Our server during lunch explained that it was due the fact that the kitchen is only able to make 2 - entrees at a time. However, there were 5 other tables (1 with 6 people) all of whom had their meals prior to us & we ordered prior to them. If I hadn't worked in the restaurant business previously, I wouldn't have noticed all of this detail. I will come back, b/c again I love the concept & the food was delicious, just probably not for lunch during a workday."

  • "We're a farm-to-table family and love trying places like Farmhouse. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding and the ambience fun yet intimate. It's a definite repeat place for us on our next trip to Chicago!"

  • "Nice diversion from the normal food scene in Chicago. Food was very good and I liked the "Farm" decor. This is a good place to have lunch and is not too far from downtown."

  • "Went for Sunday brunch, trying to seek out farm-to-table style restaurants, we were not disappointed. Friendly, unhurried service, kitchen agreeable to "customizing", we ordered Short Rib Hash, Midwestern Benedict, The Farm Egg Scramble, Biscuit, Cinnamon Roll, and a Stu's Bloody Mary ( for $12 I want the entire pickle spear). The only thing I would not reorder would be the Cinnamon Roll, for caloric trade-off, good but not amazing. Hopefully they will change up their breakfast Sweet offering occasionally. Street parking available. We will definitely be back to try lunch and dinner."

  • "Need to try other stuff on the menu, but I love the white bean kale soup and the smashed potatoes. A new favorite, will be back. Can't wait for warm weather so they can set the tables outside."

  • "Had never heard of it before a friend made the suggestion. Like the atmosphere and idea -- executed well so I'll be back. Looking forward to trying more of the dishes. Curious to know if they have brunch."

  • "We really enjoy Farmhouse. It's creative twists on familiar foods - wholesome and delicious. The service is friendly and the vibe is relaxed. I've enjoyed all of the drinks and all of the food. I'm a big fan of the chicken sandwich (lunch) and the fish and chips. We were given some sort of dessert that had choclate and peanutbutter."

  • "My friend and I ended up here on St. Patrick's day, out of all places. She order the corn beef and hash, which was a special, and came in a remarkably small portion. Small enough to called a side salad. To say the least we were surprised, but was made up for when a small chicken salad was brought out on the house."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "We were catching up with out of state friends and wanted something unique, not overly pricy with good beer. The Farmhouse was perfect. The staff was amazing, I wish every restraint I visit was as knowledgeable and attentive. If I had to have a negative the portions are a tad small but I didn't leave hungry."

  • "I've been to Farmhouse for both lunch and dinner and had great experiences both times. What I love most is the atmosphere and the crowd; I often find little bars in Chicago to be stifling, loud and packed on a Saturday night, but Farmhouse had a fun vibe with a bar full of people, without feeling too crazy or overwhelmed. Great place if you're looking to have a great dinner out with friends or a significant other without having to scream at each other. Food is great and very fresh (my favorites are the pretzel, cheese curds and lemon tart); drinks are phenomenal and well worth the wait--peach ginger cider was by far the best cider I've ever had, and I was over the moon for their gin cocktails (try The Swing and the Late Harvest)!"
