Farmer BrownSouthern comfort! We were with musicians performing at The Center for New Music on Taylor and this unexpected gem is within walking distance, AND they are open late!!! Great ambiance, too, and the food was top rate.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGive it a tryMy wife and me were SF for 3 nights and found this great little place in the Lonely Planet guide. Food and atmosphere were great, but it is in a slightly dodgy area. Don't let that put you off, though. Dining out can be expensive in San Francisco, but Farmer Brown is very reasonably priced for very good food.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern done rightI had the jambalaya and it was really authentic tasting. Very flavorful. The pulled pork was smokey and delicious. The fried chicken was juicy and crispy. Overall a really good dining experience! Great seasonal drinks as well.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! This is our 2nd time there and have loved everything we've tried both times. Our server was awesome too!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the band!Good food if you order a la cart. I have a gluten intolerance so buffet isn't an option. This was the waitress first day she did not read the online menu (boo) ll buffet items can be made to order, takes longer but worth it. I had the Bloody Mary and it was fantastic. I which they were a little like Gussies again not all people like buffets.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellant Southern Style FoodYou really can't go wrong with any of the items on the menu. We enjoyed the fried chicken, shrimp and grits, pulled pork and mac n. cheese. We will definitely be back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food and VibeShrimp and Grits delicious. Loved the fried chicken and Mac n cheese. Not a fan of collard greens touch vinegar for my taste.
Disappointed in wine selection. Can't wait to come back5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time at Farmerbrown! My friend and I really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was great as well as the service!! We will definitely return for dinner again and for brunch!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food and large portionsused a bloomspot certificate for this visit. had a great time with family that evening. staff was attentive and accomodating. thanks!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood amazing! Service, not so muchLove coming here, the ambiance, food, drinks are all delicious. But seriously, it cannot take 30 min for me to get my first drink. I understand that the mixologists are all "artists" and whatnot, but with customers waiting around - it's not good practice in my opinion to take SO long making each drink. The fried chicken was amazing, my husband's pot pie was bit on the greasy side. All in all, a pretty good experience - although we were almost late for our 8pm theater show nearby, and our reservation was at 6pm. I don't mind a long meal on occasion, but there was a lot of waiting throughout our dining experience.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMJazz on Wednesdays!Love Farmer Brown - it's a reliable choice when entertaining friends, as the food is fantastic, the drinks list doesn't disappoint and you can generally get a table on short notice. Now there's live jazz on Wednesdays, things have really stepped up a notch! Great visit, as always.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat veggie options! It's been a few years since we went to Farmer Brown's, mainly because the vegetarian options consisted of mixing together a few side dishes and appetizers. We always loved it, but as the vegetarian in the relationship, I got bored.
A recent trip to New Orleans inspired us to go back again. And this food is better than anything we had there...because it's local and organic. Definitely soul is included at Farmer Brown's.
I had the vegetarian pot pie with the most delicious crust on top and bottom! He had the catfish and he said it was incredible. We brought out cheesecake and pecan pie home for later, and those were also fabulous!
We'll be back as soon as we can!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMRib plate was outstanding.Rib plate was outstanding. Angel biscuits, on the other hand, were disappointing.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDowntown Comfort FoodGritty neighborhood (walked through a gaggle of noisy vagrants a block away) but perhaps that's par for the SF course. Food was served quickly, was hot, tasty and plentiful, and the cocktails were an interesting spin on classics. Service was on par with the other SF restos we've tried. If you're downtown and need a fix of comfort food (ribs, fried chicken, mac'n'cheese) this is a good choice!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMUniqueUnique restaurant with locally sourced food. Jambalaya was exceptional and their mason glass cocktails were delightful! Great fresh food and awesome jazz. Definitely worth braving the slightly sketchy neighborhood for.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, fresh neo-soul food.Good, fresh neo-soul food. A very good choice when you feel like Southern cuisine.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOh the pieFried chicken - good; cocktails - amazing; dessert - oh mama! The lemon pie made the night.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently very good.Have dined here a few times and the service and food are consistently very good. Great atmosphere and bar/food selection. Great interior and fun place to dine with friends. Staff is very friendly and attentive.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place but noise levelGreat place but noise level is always too high. It's always very difficult to hear the person across from you during dinner.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was absolutely fantastic! The food was absolutely fantastic! A+ would dine again.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for Brunch and hadWe went for Brunch and had a great time!! The staff was excellent and helpful!! The service was awesome and our bottomless mimosas were never empty!! The music was great and the band very friendly and played a great array of music!!!! We will be back soon for the fried chicken!!!! The best we have ever had!!!!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat soul food, especiallyGreat soul food, especially the Waffles and fried chicken...yum plus wonderful atmosphere coupled with an excellent jazz group.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food and amazingDelicious food and amazing drinks with a little bit of charm.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a great dinner andIt was a great dinner and overall experience - I will definitely recommend and will be back for more!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe hostess was especiallyThe hostess was especially professional and thoughtful. I was dining with a co-worker at a two top. My jacket and purse were placed to my right on the bench, as no one was sitting beside me. Another party was shortly seated after us, the hostess offered a chair upon which I could place my items. She was so very proactive in preventing an unpleasant situation.
Thanks!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFunky yet professional. FocusedFunky yet professional. Focused menu, full bar with interesting drinks, DJ spinning tunes and a doorman with a big personality. Good southern style food in a cool--on the urban edgy side-- scene.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI expected more given allI expected more given all the hype, but the food is good. Chicken is OK. My thought is since there is little southern around the area, this ends up setting the standard which doesn't necessarily mean it is that great. However, every time I have gone the service is excellent. That I appreciate and it does stand out. Cocktails are ridiculously strong but good. You might be flammable after a few.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMChicken and WafflesSecond visit to Farmer Brown's. Tuesday night featuring a $16 Chicken and Waffle special. The Fried Chicken was cooked to perfection. Two pieces of chicken on the plate, one breast and one wing. Crispy chicken had that perfect combination of outside crispiness and inside juicy tenderness. The waffles were also cooked perfectly. Golden on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. Smothered the waffles in syrup and enjoyed that perfect combination of salty and sweet. I didn't think it would taste much better than your standard chicken and waffle house, but boy FB's do this dish right. I cleaned my entire plate and washed it down with a signature Mason Jar Cocktail.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Brunch in the City! PerfectBest Brunch in the City! Perfect Dinner Date spot to lounge and relax with one if their delicious bar drinks... 5 stars hands down!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA Southern Gem in Union SquareFarmer brown was excellent! The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend the southern fried chicken (hot, juicy and freshly prepared). The roasted yams were perfection and the sweet tea will make a southerner proud. But don't leave without desert. You won't have room to eat it there, but the red velvet cake was perfect later. My only regret was that I had my first meal there on my last night in town. Next visit to San Francisco farmer brown will be my first stop!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe visited this place whenWe visited this place when visiting from the UK. The food was amazing, and the service was very friendly. I highly recommend it. Defiantly one of the best places we visited for food on our entire trip.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent, waitThe food was excellent, wait staff friendly and specialty cocktails were great. The music was tops, but a bit loud. The only negative is that the neighborhood is a bit "sketchy", and would likely be more so had we visited in the evening rather than on a Sunday afternoon.2/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service was goodThe food and service was good but it was way too loud. My boyfriend and I had to resort to sending texts to each other from across the table. I want to try some other items off their menu but am hesitant to go back because of the noise.1/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat southern foodBest spot downtown for a nice date when you want to eat some high end fried chicken.12/8/2012 12:00:00 AM
