A word from FareStart

At FareStart, food is the tool that transforms lives. FareStart is a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. The FareStart Restaurant, located at 7th & Virginia in downtown Seattle, is open for lunch Monday-Friday from 11am–2pm, and for Guest Chef… Night dinners on Thursdays from 5:30-8 p.m. All proceeds from the restaurant go back into the program to support FareStart’s job training and placement programs. Held at the FareStart Restaurant, Guest Chef Night is a weekly highlight for the FareStart community. For FareStart students, it is a unique opportunity to work with Seattle's premier chefs. Every Thursday night, a different local chef works with students to prepare a delicious three-course meal. Guest Chef Night is $29.95 per person. "I love bringing new guests to the Chef's dinner because it is a great introduction to your awesome restaurant. At our ages we don't need more stuff, so this is my Christmas and birthday gifts for friends and I get to enjoy them and dinner,too. A win-win and always know dinner will be good!"

"I really enjoyed my recent lunch at FareStart Restaurant. The ambience and decor was topnotch. While the food was good, I was mostly there to support a great cause: helping disadvantaged people get back on their feet through culinary training. This restaurant is city gem b/c of the good work they do and I will gladly go back to support it. I only wish it were open on weekends and evenings. As far as the food goes, I had the crusted pork sandwich and it was OK. It didn't seem to have much flavor and was a bit dry, but I'll happily go back again and see if, perhaps, my initial experience was just a fluke. Wait staff was a bit slow, too. But again, I'm happy to support a good cause."

"It is such a pleasure to enjoy great food while supporting a worthwhile cause. The graduation of five students from FareStart's culinary program was a cause for celebration, and some of the tributes were quite moving. The guest chef provided wonderful selections, and the volunteer servers also did a stellar job!"

"There are many great reasons to go to Fare Start and celebrating a local chef (owner) from Assagio combined with Coinstar's volunteers just added to the experience. I should go more often to support the wonderful mission they created 20 years ago. It is the pride of Seattle admired by programs all over the county. The food was very good, the service was very friendly and there was lots of positive energy in the room."
