Fare is a restaurant and wine bar located in the heart of the Art Museum area on Fairmount Avenue across from historic Eastern State Penitentiary and only a few blocks away from the Philadelphia Art Museum. Our cuisine can be described as clean, focusing on sustainable, local, organic, artisan ingredients with many seafood options.   • "Vibe on the patio was very energetic, live band, lots of people - perfect for a sunny Sat afternoon. This is a great place for visitors to Philly - easy walk from the museums on Ben Franklin Pkwy. We had timed our first visit to Fare for an early dinner and so, opted for quieter indoor seating. Menu was great - good variety, making selections more difficult - a good thing! Server was friendly and welcoming, but service was lackluster. Bar service was ok, but food service was quite slow. During our meal, a group of 9 came in and were seated beside us, which seemed odd when the dining room was practically empty (2 of us & one other table of 4). But, the food will have me coming back for a second chance."

  • "My wife and I had walked by several times over the past year. Our first visit was prompted by a last minute to eat out after a busy and challenging day at work for both of us. We made last minute reservations without a problem, and the service immediately smoothed our sense of stress. Appetizers, drinks, entree, and dessert were excellent. We definitely intend that our first encounter will not be our last to go to Fare. In a neighborhood of a variety of good restaurants, Fare has it's niche for food prepared in a unique way with an emphasis on healthy eating."

  • "First, I made a reservation which they could not keep. Then, after been moved from one table to another, the waitress made this face like she did not even want to serve us. We were in the middle of the restaurant, feeling on the way of everybody and the waitress totally forgot about us after serving the main meal. Do I have to mention that we were also mean with the tip? Terrible experience; first and last time there."

  • "As a vegetarian I was impressed by the fact they had Seitan and a variety of vegetable-centric dishes but as a person who dines out often and has worked in this industry I was disappointed with the overall culinary experience. The crab cakes should just be eliminated from the menu entirely, they're terrible (and that is being polite). The hummus on the other hand was delicious and our server was attentive and kind."

  • "I have been to Fare three times for brunch and was very pleased with the experience; This was our first stab at dinner. We were greeted by a numb hostess and it didn't get any better from there. We ordered a mixed greens salad, scallop ceviche, wild mushroom cakes, and the open face bison burger. The salad was delicious, the ceviche tasted like pasty coleslaw from a bad deli, the cakes were...proficient, and in spite of requesting medium rare - the burger was blood red on the inside. Fare bills itself as locally grown, yet there were tomatoes on the burger. Where in the Mid-Atlantic region can you find tomatoes growing in February? A more accurate name for this mediocre eatery would be Fair."

  • "This is the 2nd time we have been to Fare, it it was as good as I remembered. With this second trip, we've now tried all three of the flatbreads, and they are all delicious. The beet salad was wonderful and big enough to share. We loved the crabcakes and also shared the flank steak. A really nice night."

  • "I am somewhat of a picky eater and when I was handed the menu I was worried because it was pretty limited (it was a prix-fixe Valentine's day menu). My fears turned out to be completely unfounded because every course that both my boyfriend and I got was absolutely delicious. The service was very good and each person who helped us that evening seemed very professional. Our table wasn't the greatest because we seemed to be right in the middle of a popular route to the kitchen but it by no means ruined the dinner. The staff didn't seem to mind that we stayed rather long after we paid to finish our bottle of wine, which was also very nice."

  • "Made a reservation for Valentine's Day and then called a few days later to ask if there was a special V-Day menu as we would have canceled and went elsewhere. Was assured that the regular dinner menu would be available. After being seated, we were told there was only a Valentine's Day menu. Dining here for the first time, I wanted to try a number of different things. Unfortunately, none of them were an option. While the food was great, we were all a little disappointed with the limited menu choices. Especially after spending close to $400. Portions were on the small size for 3 courses at $54 a person. Server was very nice and attentive even on this very busy night but we still would have liked to try a lot more than what was offered."

  • "The food was good for brunch, and I would go back again. Contrary to other reviews, the service was attentive; However, although the server took pride in remembering our order for 4 people rather than writing it down, she got it wrong. My wife's omelet came with the cheese on the menu, which she requested be replaced because she didn't like it. It's easier said than done to send it back. Often the replacement comes after everyone else is finished their meals. Not good when you are with kids! Street parking is tough."

  • "I've been to Fare twice for brunch and it was awesome. I went for dinner on Friday and it wasn't as good. I ordered the chicken, which was cooked pretty well, but not as juicy as expected. It came with sweet potato gratin, which was just way way too cheesy- couldn't taste the potatoes at all. The molten chocolate cake was delicious though. They say us right by the front door and it was freezing and we were too close to the live music, which was really good, but very loud if you're trying to have a conversation. Overall, it was a kind of strange dinner experience given how awesome their brunch has been."

  • "Just ate here for the first time with three friends for a Saturday brunch and could not have been more pleased with the experience. While our server and the decor left nothing to be desired, I think we can all agree that the food is the biggest draw for a restaurant. We shared a number of dishes, and everything was fresh and delicious. The standouts were the baked banana with dates and coconut, the apple ricotta pancakes, and the tuna melt. The prices were extremely reasonable for organic, local food as well. I would love to return to try lunch or dinner another day. Highly recommend."

  • "I finally tried this place and must admit that the food tastes a lot fresher and organic than most places around the area; the service however and more specifically our waitress was terrible. The people by the bar were super loud and obnoxious given that it was in the middle of the day and the place was almost empty, and the waitress kept forgetting to take our order or refill our water/coffee, she kept forgetting to bring sugar for our coffees etc. She just seemed to enjoy the company of the people at the bar rather than try to serve us. I am definitely going back there to try the dinner menu (since I only tried the brunch menu; their pancakes are amazing!), but I will not tolerate any poor service."

  • "At 5:30 PM on a Sunday night, my party of six had the entire restaurant basically to ourselves. The waitress was prompt and the food was very nice. The flank steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. The avocado cake cakes had large chunks of crab and avocado rather than a mashed up mess. The grilled octopus salad was some of the most tender octopus I've ever had. The salmon had grated apple on top, which was fairly creative. The plates aren't very large but you are not left hungry. We had a member of the party who only eats organic, vegan food and they were able to accommodate it without a problem."

Everything was fresh. I would also highly recommend their gin and tonic. The cracked pepper made for a nice refreshing twist. Our waitress was great too... super personable! The only thing is we didn't get her name. I look forward to returning in the future!"

  • "My friend and I decided to walk towards Fairmount for dinner and we found this restaurant in our Open Table search. When I was able to make a reservation for the time it took to walk there, I was suspicious that it wasn't very good. But, it was amazing. It was hard to decide among all of the delicious-sounding menu items ( I had the krispy kale salad and scallop ceviche--the fact that I am remembering what I ate says that the dishes were amazing). The food was flavorful and fresh. The decor is rustic/modern and the staff is very attentive. The prices are very reasonable. I will be going back again and again."

  • "The restaurant was mostly empty. We had a table at 7:30p on a Thursday night. The bar seemed more action-packed. We had a table for 5 in the far corner of the restaurant. I thought our food took a while, even though there was only one other table occupied. My crab cakes were delicious as was my Caesar salad. I enjoyed the beer selection as well. Friendly waitress and nice, clean decor. We decided against bringing the kids, who's idea of dining out usually involve nugget-shaped food! If your kids will try anything, and you'll pay $19 to $23 for anything, then I'd recommend it for children. Otherwise, the menu is kid-challenged. It's worth a visit."
