  • "The greeting, wait staff, and clean up folks were all cordial and helpful. The food was excellent and well presented. My only complaint was the wine prices. the least expensive was $60 and the average seemed to be around $100. Ouch! Entrees were not overpriced, though. Would go back and drink beer."

  • "I have nothing bad to say about our dinner experience. We had 7 o'clock reservations and were seated promptly at 7. Our server was knowledgeable regarding the dinner selections and allowed us to enjoy the dinner experience at our leisure, not too pushy but still attentive to our needs. The food was one of the best dinners we have had at Farralon. Seafood was prepared perfectly and was delicious. Dessert was also a great way to end the dinner. It is a very busy restaurant but our table was such that we didn't even notice. All in all, it was an outstanding dinner and experience."

  • "We are girls night out, so we don't care about money for that night, as long as the food is good. But it was a total hit and miss that night. The seafood platter is a total joke, it come with The half lobstering so small it only have like one bit of meet. 4 small oyster, but the oyster is good. 4 small shrimp, and a very small half crab, but it's $70. It totally over price. We also order the soft shell crab and of course it come in mini size. Then move on the main course we order the fish which very good, scollop also very good. But the New York steak is like chewing leather, but it cook middle. So dinner comes in total more then $400s well we did order wine. But for $100 per person I expect more then that."

  • "This place was exquisite and the decor so unique! I was almost willing to embarrass myself taking pictures of the architectural details! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!!"

  • "If you've ever been to Barcelona and seen the works of Gaudy, then you have a feel for the décor of this unique restaurant. It is vibrant and alive. Adding to that the consistent top quality innovative cuisine and service and there is a recipe for a very special evening. Of all the choices that we have in San Francisco, Farallon consistently comes up as the place that we want to return to and to bring guests."

  • "Had not dined here in quite some time. My food choices were the softshell crab appetizer and the branzino--both delicious! Bartender's "Whimsy" cocktail of chipotle vodka and grapefruit was also quite tasty. Very thorough wine list and impressive service--my expectations were met!"

  • "Food was excellent. Only 1 person out of our group of 6 didn't love theirs. The atmosphere was incredible. The staff was very accommodating. Would recommend to anyone."

  • "Great seafood in a unusual but great looking room. Good attentive service"

  • "I'd been wanting to take my wife here for awhile now, and it lived up to the expectations. Some of the best food I've had in the city, and great service. The restaurant itself is located in a very historic building and occupies the top half of what used to be the swimming pool. Ask your server about it - it's great for those with history and architecture interests. The entrees and 3-course selection is priced on the high-end (which is appropriate) but it seems that the front lounge/bar area would be a great option for raw bar selections that may be more casual and affordable. Also - make sure you're a fan of seafood if you come here. There are a couple good looking steak options, but the main attraction is the seafood."

  • "Service was top notch and food was excellent....only blunder was that you need to replace whoever shucks your oysters. We Ordered a dozen oysters and each one had an inexcusable amount of "debris" in them. The fronts were shattered so more than half of them lost its juices and each slurp was a mouth full of shell. We advised our server and he professionally brought us four more oysters on the house! which unfortunately still had shells. Paying what we payed for those beauties and to have them dismantled and disrespected like that is a shame. The Mains and dessert were both amazing though."

  • "Went for a Friday night dinner. Food was just out of this work. Local (Point Reyes) oysters, very fresh and delicious. I had branzino, my friend char. Both again, delicious. Great service and ambiance."

  • "bar dining is really kind of an afterthought here architecturally, even though the oysters and happy hour menu are a good deal. The main dining room is eerily over the top and while interesting, if you're dining early, it feels like being in an aquarium, i.e. the decor does feel a little dated. The food is overpriced, but the flourishes can be exquisite. I dine here sporadically for business when I'm tasked with older clients."

  • "Was surprised at the unfriendly service this time and one of the meals wasn't very good. We usually leave quite pleased! Must have been a bad night."

  • "The food is excellent. The wine and drink menus are extensive and the staff knowledgeable. It is expensive, but worth it for the special occasion. The decor is fabulous as well, with sea themes and blown glass light fixtures in the shape of marine life. The tasting menu with wine pairing is a great choice if it is available."

  • "This restaurant has one of the most unique and entertaining designs in SF. It is an underwater world of jelly fish hanging from the ceiling and shell shape motifs as well as fine mosaics. Service is excellent, but never overbearing. Our anniversary was noted just enough with A piped chocolate Happy Anniversary on the desert plates. Pacing was perfect. My lobster was perfectly cooked and well dissected for easy eating. Our ravioli pasta was nicely split. Portions were right sized. I had forgotten what fun this place was."

  • "We were seated promptly upon arrival. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We bought a bottle of bubbly off the list and they waived the corkage for the bottle we brought, much appreciated. The fish was delicious, all four of us were pleased with our dishes."

  • "Our server and all other wait staff was fantastic!!!! Our table was horrible. We were right next to the wait staff's area upstairs. We came for the beauty of the restaurant as well as the food."

  • "We dine at Farallon often, and have always rated it perfect. This visit fell short, and surprisingly on the food end. Service and wine were perfect, but the food just did not WOW us, as always before. Everything was good, with a few very-goods, but nothing excellent, across the whole menu. I think that it was just an off-night for the kitchen. We will certainly be back, because so many perfect scores cannot be dismissed, due to one weaker night."

  • "We have visited this restaurant many times over the past few years. This time I would say it was not as good as normal and the service was a bit over bearing. We had 3 wait staff at our table and they were replacing wine glasses on our very crowded table even though it was the second bottle of the same wine! I am in the wine business and this was way excessive."

  • "Really good seafood and fabulous decor. Service is always good. Great location, as it's just steps away from theatre row, including The Curren."

  • "Walking into the restaurant begins the experience. The decor is interesting but not over the top. We had a great waiter who made good suggestions. Our meal was delicious especially the tuna tartare."

  • "This is only my second time at Farallon and it was a great experience. We began with a large appetizer plate of a variety of sea foods which was amazing to look at and eat! I had a soft shell crab as my starter and it was delicious. My husband had the bisque which he said was equally as good. We had a group of 6 and everyone enjoyed their starters as well as their entrees. I know a lot of people don't eat bread anymore but the bread here was really wonderful. I had the filet of sole and my husband had a steak which was served in medallions. One of the other people had the raviolis to start and said that they were delicious too. We finished with coffees and cappuccinos. We were never rushed and the service was fantastic."

  • "Someone recommended this as a good spot for our anniversary dinner. We were very happy with the choice. Service was amazing, the décor was very interesting, and the food was great with great presentation."

  • "The restaurant was wonderful. Drink prices were especially high - which drove up the price of dinner. But the food was excellent."

  • "Took two business associates for dinner. As usual, the service and ambiance were excellent. My guests enjoyed their entrees, but my trout was decidedly sub-standard. Our server did remove the charge from the bill, but this was the first time in perhaps half a dozen visits when I was disappointed. This is a first-rate restaurant and will remain one of my San Fran faves."

  • "It's not easy to combine fun and fancy, but Farallon manages to do it, from the décor to the food to the service. Our hosts, our servers -- all were consummate professionals. Our sommelier was a great example of Farallon's level of service: He began by describing the characteristics of a few of his favorite wines, but when it became clear that I barely know the difference between "dry" and "sweet", he not only showed not a hint of condescension as I might have expected, he adapted and remained extremely helpful. So, a situation that might have been awkward in a typical fancy restaurant, was fun instead. He even helped my friend get in touch with the maker of the beautiful wine glasses. And of course, the food was amazing :)"

  • "Lovely dining experience from the setting to the service to the food. The staff made timely appearances. All the dishes featured a freshness equal to the menu's boasting of local items. One main course was reworked spendidly at our request. Our waiter possessed considerable wine knowledge and pointed me to a norther Rhone blanc that had me online looking to buy it!"

  • "The food was excellent, lots of great fish options as well as shellfish. The place is very cool and you feel like you're eating in a restaurant under the sea."

  • "Impeccable service and perfectly prepared dishes fit for Neptune himself in a beautiful and enchanted setting make Farallon my favorite restaurant."
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "The experience was okay, but I will say that my steak arrived at my table room temp on the cool side? This was a $37.00 dish? Also, the waiter seemed a bit dis-connected from our table and kept a distance but did not provide us with poor service. This was not a bad dining experience for us all, but perhaps I would try another spot."
