FarallonExcellent seafood. FriendlyExcellent seafood. Friendly service and wonderful atmosphere. Creative desserts. Perfect for a special occasion.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining ExperienceTook my family for a reunion dinner in San Francisco. Everyone loved the ambiance, the food and the wine selection. Highly recommend for special occasions or for just excellent food.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall a great experience.Overall a great experience. Courses were a bit erratic as they were busy, but the waitstaff checked in and kept us happy.
Food was really good, a lot of thought and care went into their flavor profiles. Lots of tourists were there the night we went, taking pictures and milling about, a bit over the top as most of it was right around our booth.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was superb. TheEverything was superb. The food, the service, the ambiance. Farallon is as good a restaurant as we have attended in years. It ranks with our Los Angeles best - Melisse, Hatfield's, Spago and Providence.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSix Visits Over Five YearsFarallon prepares fish like nowhere else; however, one pays handsomely for the experience. Great for a special occasion.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delightful. OurThe food was delightful. Our server, Steve, was helpful and made the experience a pleasurable one. Very cool atmosphere.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHow it should be doneEverything about this restaurant is 5 star. The kitchen is run by the Chef de Cuisine like a well drilled military operation. Great to watch and the product from the kitchen is outstanding. The wait staff is highly professional which makes for a wonderful experience from the time you walk in to the time you leave. I can't recommend it highly enough.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good dinner - all from the seaWe had scallops, Ono, and crab - all of which were quite good. Would recommend the lobster salad and sea scallops if on the menu, they are fantastic. Crab was very good and service was pleasant. Our concierge had made this restaurant out to be the greatest experience we would have in SF and while the food was good and the experience enjoyable, it was not the absolute best we had during the trip. Overall I would recommend this if you are looking for a nice, different seafood experience in SF but be prepared for the price tag.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good and really expensive...We opted for the five course meal with the wine pairings. My wife is in to that sort of thing, but I will say, it was really, really good. The service was great, and the ambience was one I really enjoyed. Cool place......5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved itThe Oysters were amazing....Service was not the best, the staff is not very friendly5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best serviceWe arrived at 6:00 pm, as reserved, and were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Our server was friendly and very helpful as we made our selections. He was very knowledgable about each component of each menu item. Our food arrived in order and in timely way. The food was excellent as was the service. The decor added a warm and welcoming ambience. As the restaurant filled up it remained relatively quiet even with everyone talking - I suspect because of the architectural design of the room.
As a party of four we all agreed that this was a great dining experience and highly recommend Farallon to others.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find near Union SquareFabulous decor, friendly and professional staff and wonderful food are all found here at Farallon. If you are a seafood foodie, you'll love it here and all in all very reasonably priced for what was really a top end meal :)4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was wonderful!Everything was wonderful! Will come back when back in town!!! Already recommended to friends.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCreativity aboundsMagical décor. In a former (1920s) Elks club, the main dining room's ceiling is a treasure - a work of art supplemented with creative ceiling lights akin to giant sea urchins - just beautiful. The entry dining room also has whimsical light fixtures that look like floating man-of-war.
The menu is - as expected - mainly seafood - each item with interesting accompaniments. All the freshest ingredients prepared creatively. Knowledgeable staff; prompt service; excellent wine list.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom start to finish, it wasFrom start to finish, it was a superb experience. Liked the understated elegance of the decode; never really noticed the Wait Staff, but they always quietly appeared whenever they were needed; the food pairings on all of our selections were "spot on." Did not have either wine or bar drinks, so can't on them. We'll definitely be back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautifulGorgeous dining room, comfortable booths, great food, excellent service; the sommelier was beyond kind in helping my elderly mother, and they decorated her dessert plate for her birthday. Happy I made this reservation.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for the first time onWent for the first time on a recommendation. Took another couple for a reunion of sorts. All four of us enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful, serving us at our own pace and making suggestions. We will definitely go back!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice experience! We sat upstairs, so the ambiance was more intimate and had a more moderate noise level. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, and she definitely had a friendly disposition. I had the grouper, and my mom had the scallops. Flavor was wonderful, but dinner arrived slightly cold. The lobster salad, for it's price was rather small - even more greens would have worked. We loved our experience, but the only complaint we had was that the bisque was watery...not slightly watery, but pure liquid. Again, wonderful flavor, but not what we were expecting. I can recommend the shot of fish soup that they brought between courses, and was EXCELLENT - we would have preferred to pay for a bowl of that. Overall, we highly recommend!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant with a beautifulGreat restaurant with a beautiful interior. Somewhat pricey but great service and well prepared food. Fish portion too small but tastey.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a beautiful restaurantThis is a beautiful restaurant with wonderfull food and great service!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday dinnerI took my girlfriend there for her birthday. We made reservations a month ago and it was fortunate we did as the place was bustling at 7PM. The waiter was attentive but not intrusive and very helpful with the menu and wines. The selection of wine was extensive and each recommendation was dead on. My filet of beef and my girlfriend's scallops were cooked to perfection and as each dish was explained to us, we wanted to dig in even more. Having the kitchen near to us was fine. I didn't know if I'd like it. Overall a romantic night and a unique eating experience.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb - Excellent service;Superb - Excellent service; excellent food. The decor was beautiful, the wait staff very attentive and professional, and most importantly, the food was delicious. It was a very enjoyable way for my husband and I to catch up and relax after a busy day.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMIt has been years since weIt has been years since we last went there. It was a marvelous dining experience. I am not normally a big fish guy, but I had the Maryland striped bass and it was great. My wife had the branzini. Also great. We washed that down with a 2005 Barbaresco La Spinetta Vigneto Gallina. Despite the fact that they were busy on a Saturday night, our waiter was attentive to us without being overbearing. My wife and I like eating in nice, big city restaurants and do so frequently. My overwhelming impression when finishing this meal was that it was just perfect. A first rate dining experience.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMUnion Square FindThis is a very good restaurant near Union Square. Perfect for after-shopping, or before-theatre. I had scallops which were just done enough to be cooked, but not so done to be tough. Excellent. My husband had the sea bass. Also very well prepared. The bar was well stocked; our cocktails were prepared just the way we ordered. The wait staff was attentive and made sure that our dinner was not rushed, but that we finished in time for our theatre plans. I highly recommend it.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMagic, no other way it can be doneWe absolultely love Farallon. The food & service are impeccable, but to stop there wld do a disservice to the incredible atmosphere they've created that is as artful as any SF restaurant we know.
If you're in a rush, let them know, otherwise come, celebrate the holistic experience, and be amazed course after course. They won't disappoint you.
I cld direct you to favorites, but we try something new each time, and the bar gets set higher and higher w each experience.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed everythingWe really enjoyed everything about our experience.

The service is absolutely the best and the food is innovative and satisfying4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother lovely meal at Farallon.Another lovely meal at Farallon. We dined early (6:15), so we were there pre-crowds, though it began to fill up soon after our arrival. Service was attentive but not intrusive, and the food was simply wonderful. Always a special treat!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had at early reservationWe had at early reservation so we were sited at one of the tables around the edge. We received immediate service which continued all night thanks to jonathan. The food was sublime and very tasty. It deserves all that praise that it I given.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmbiance and serviceFaux pas: Undercooked poached egg. Our starter dish of lemon asparagus was served with a very cool undercooked egg. Poached eggs are supposed to have a firm but delicate white with a warm creamy yolk. The egg on my plate had runny transparent whites and a cool yolk. At $14, for three spears of asparagus and an egg, this dish should have been perfect
The portions are small...so dish splitting is okay only if you order 6 courses.
Very tasty food but not with calories in mind. My Halibut and veggies were swimming in a large pool of Bearnaise.
Super fresh oysters with lemon and mignonette.
We loved the ambiance and the staff was impeccable in their service.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAn outstanding setting withAn outstanding setting with outstanding food and service.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AM"Out of Towner"dining experienceFarallon is a beautiful, inviting restaurant in the heart of Union Square. The ambiance is unique and the service is outstanding. It's a elegant way to escape the hustle and bustle of Union Square and enjoy an outstanding meal. The wait staff are professional, knowledgeable and attentive. Have your wait staff guide you through a great wine selection for your meal. Overall a great experience, and highly recommended.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Special ExperienceSimply outstanding on every count. The food was amazing. Loved the scallops, bisque and the squid appetizer. Even better was the service, our server, Brian, was fantastic; great knowledge of the menu, very attentive. Highly recommended.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways amazing experience!Always amazing experience! Great people, fabulous food and wine4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMthe waiters and other staffthe waiters and other staff were professional yet very friendly and helpful and attentive. the bread was delicious. Everything was presented beautifully. My cocktail was outstanding, suggested by our waitress. A very enjoyable experience. I would return.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMarvelous EveningWe had a marvelous evening from the moment we walked in. Our server was friendly, helpful and professional. As usual, the fish preparation is creative and amazing. We enjoyed smoked sturgeon, a riff on the classic shrimp cocktail, and shared a fresh pasta with Dungeness crab that was delicate in texture but robust in flavor. Our fish entrees were perfectly cooked and the accompanying breads are delightful - fresh baked with wonderful butter to use as you see fit. We had already had cocktails, but no one sneered when we ordered a half bottle of wine. Save room for dessert - the apple dessert was a standout and the coffee was perfectly brewed. Everything about Farallon makes you feel special.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSurf's Up in SF!Farallon is an outstanding restaurant; highly recommended. Your experience begins upon entering the spectacular dining room, which is about the most beautiful and interesting I've ever seen. Vaulted ceiling, jelly fish chandeliers, open kitchen with wood fired grill, cozy booths and a back room like a Roman grotto. The food is equally impressive. We feasted on oysters and dungeness crab from the cold bar, exquisite squid with smoked paprika, and my ono main course was the best I've ever eaten. The desserts and cheese course were also excellent. The wine list caters to seafood (but you will find beef and chicken entrees). Service was friendly and attentive. I will return like the tide.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMReliable Union Square RestaurantFarallon is a Union Square staple for us. We have eaten there many times when visiting from out of town. Despite the fact we had no trouble getting a table through OpenTable for the same day, the restaurant was busy when we arrived and throughout our stay. We were seated right away and the service throughout was timely and professional. The food was overall very good. My one complaint is the oysters on the half shell - nice selection and they tasted great but for $3.50 each they were the SMALLEST oysters I've ever had. The entrees were beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Loved the halibut and as always.....love the decor.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFarallon, once again, doesFarallon, once again, does not disappoint. Service is refined, friendly and efficient. The courses are well laid out and the dishes bare resemblance to the descriptions on menu. This is my third visit to the restaurant and noticed that the Tasting Menu on this occasion was not available nevertheless; I built a 4 course dinner from the excellent menu and was treated to very fresh, bright and delicious outcomes to each well paced and properly delivered course. The Striped Bass main course was sublime, well presented and cooked to perfection. No doubt this restaurant will become a favorite of mine.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was excellent,The service was excellent, with the notable exception of the sommelier. A great wine list deserves better.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful per show dinner.A wonderful per show dinner. Spectacular decor. Very attentive staff. Would highly recommend.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOur concierge had recommendedOur concierge had recommended this restaurant because it was close to our hotel and the theatre where we had tickets for "Jersey Boys" the same night. It was a wonderful dining experience that was un-rushed - our 3 courses were served as courses.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for the HalibutI live in the Napa Valley and with all the wonderful restaurants here I really never see any reason to go into San Francisco just for dinner. If I’m in the city for a show or a game then yes, I like to try a San Francisco restaurant; otherwise it really isn’t worth the hassle. However, I had seen a picture of the Farallon’s interior and I just had to give it a try. The only way I was going to talk my boyfriend into going into the city just for dinner (not show, no game, etc.) was to ask to go there for my birthday. He really couldn’t refuse and so we went. We ended up being late due to traffic on Geary and parking (we didn’t realize the restaurant offered valet parking, oops), but the staff at the reception stand were wonderful and the3/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
