Diner Reviews
  • "We used to dine at Fandango years ago and always had a first class experience, so a group of 8 of us decided to meet there and start out weekend in Carmel with a nice luncheon. Not such a good idea......they escorted us to a private dining room, then forgot about us......once we found our server and asked to be served.....the food was mediocre. The Sand Dabs were heavily battered.....The onion soup Gratine was like dishwater with some onions and lots of soggy bread..... the Caprese salad consisted of unripened tomatoes..... ( in July ? ) I think the restaurant has slipped in the few years since we have been there.....must be a change in ownership. Too many other good food choices in the area.....this one you can skip."

  • "Amazing food...impeccable service....great wine list (I am a wine snob too) and the wines are not over priced..we had a very nice dinner"

  • "We booked on the recommendation of a friend in the travel industry and were not disappointed. I booked with Open Table and mentioned it was our anniversary. Our waiter knew this and decorated our table and comped us a dessert. Food was excellent. We sat "downstairs" - quiet and charming. Upstairs was noisy and crowded. I would request downstairs if going back again."

  • "Fandango is one of those restaurants that continues to perform at a high level. My wife and I had a wonderful dinner. The staff is very attentive and professional."

  • "We were in Monterey for a special occasion and found Fandango on line. The menu sounded very different and thought we would give it a try. We were not disappointing. The room with the fire place was very well appointed and Romantic. The food was excellent and very beautifully served . Our server was great and new the menu and wine list well. We will return. The Rack of lamb was the best my husband has ever had. The Paella was fabulous."

  • "Very pleasant place to go for family events and to entertain visiting friends. Food quality and service are reliable, although service can be a little slow when they are busy--not bad and worth waiting for. Nice variety to the menu with moderate pricing."

  • "I would rate our evening at Fandango as one of the 5 best dining experiences my husband and I have ever experienced. I requested a quiet table, and this new restaurant, recommended by a friend, turned into a romantic two hour, falling in love, laughter, fabulous food, Jango Reinhart music in the background, total OOOOAHHHHHHH. I fell in love with the entire staff, and our 34 year marriage felt like our honeymoon. Fandango is now a destination trip."

  • "I have dined here for lunch and dinner on numerous occasions over several years and the food, and service, are always exquisite. You can't beat the quality, and prices are very reasonable. Super friendly staff, Manager, and owner make us feel friendly every time. A gem of a restaurant in Pacific Grove. Every room is precious."

  • "Even though it is 2000 miles from home and tucked in a quiet corner of the Monterey Peninsula, I try to dine at Fandango whenever I get close. It is a delightful setting with cozy rooms and a couple of fireplaces. Service is always over the top and the wine list is impressive and very reasonably priced. I was intent on having the excellent paella again but deferred to my wife's wishes and had a NY steak so we could share a bottle of red. The only reason fo the 4 star food rating was a gristly area in my steak. Otherwise everything was perfect. I hope to be back again soon."

  • "Excellent and interesting menu. Tempting cocktaila"

  • "Our waiter brought us the wrong food and it then took an additional 20 minutes to get the correct entrees. When we finally received our entrees, both were still incorrectly prepared and poorly seasoned - especially given that this was a $36 entree item. Although the wine list is excellent, the overall experience is not worth the cost. it is not worth the cost. When we were in the Monterey area two years ago, we enjoyed the restaurant so much that we ate there two nights in a row. It's too bad that the service and food have gone downhill so much."

  • "A little hard to find but a very nice upscale restaurant. There were 4 of us that went to dinner at the recommendation of a hotel concierge and we each would definitely return. The food was quite good as was the service and overall ambience. It was quiet enough for easy conversation over dinner. Recommend it without reservation."

  • "I found this restaurant and was so happy that we did. We enjoyed a fine meal and excellent service. Our waiter was most attentive and gracious yet let us alone to enjoy our meal. I would recommend everything particularly the scallops. We had the special scallops and they were amazing. Don't have a bad thing to say except stay open later!"

  • "The service was great and staff friendly. However, I found the place to be a little old and tired looking. I ordered salmon and it was dry. The clam chowder was very good. I wasn't completely blown away with the food to pay the high prices."

  • "We ate twice at Fandango. Once for a lunch, which was very good. However what we were really looking forward to was the dinner for which we had a reservation, and and the rack of lamb which is mentioned liberally in the reviews of the place. When we went to dinner, (just like Passionfish), they handed us a HUGE wine list, which included bottles that went up to stratospheric prices, but there was a VERY limited selection of actual wines by the glass. I had to simply specify the house merlot. It was quite decent. However, the waiter thought that we had ordered the rack 0f lamb ($39 and change, and petite) medium WELL, and we ordered it medium RARE. It came peculiarly cut in half and quite well done, ruined. They gave us free profiterolles."

  • "We are in the Carmel area for the month of June. A friend has told us about Fandango and that was our most valuable information on our trip! We have been 3 times and each time surpasses the last time."

  • "I thought the paella was a bit under seasoned. My wife had the duck which she enjoyed but her accompanying potatoes were tepid at best and had way to much oregano. We did address this to our server."

  • "Went to Fandango 4 years ago and had a great meal in a fun atmosphere. Went back and it was just as good! The food was wonderful, service impeccable. Will definitely go again."

  • "We had a party of 9 and able to accommodate us with no problem but a bit tight Food was tasty. My seared scallop was excellent. Lamb shank was very good too. The osso bucco was very tender. Most of all the soufflé was wonderful ! We had a very good experience !"

  • "Have heard so much about this restuarant and was looking forward to dining there. Prices are higher - higher than much better resturants in area. Food is find but not exceptional. Paella was not as good as Grasing. Tapas selection was disappointing. Wines by glass are ok but not great. There is nothing about this restuarant that would make me recommend it. Would never go back to it,"

  • "As always, the service was attentative & friendly. Our guests from the east coast thoroughly enjoyed the preparation and flavor of the sand dabs which were served piping hot. The only spoiler in the meal was that the green beans, cooked to a perfect al dente and the potatoes were completely cold."

  • "Not local to the area but try to come down to the Monterey Bay County as often as possible from the East Bay SF area as I love it here. I was here last year and I was recommended by the concierge at my bed and breakfast that Fandangos was one of her favorite restaurants in Pacific Grove.I was not disappointed and made a decision to return whenever I was back. This time I was with my husband and they made our 25th Wedding Anniversary such a special evening. It is no wonder that this place has a Zagat plaque. From one who has eaten at places around the world this gem is one that I will always remember. "

  • "We had dinner at Fandango after being disappointed by another well-known Pacific Grove restaurant. Fandango was everything the other restaurant wasn't. We sat in the front room with the fireplace. It was very quiet. The waiter was attentive without being intrusive. The food was great. The wine prices were very reasonable. We will go back to Fandango the next time we are in Pacific Grove."

  • "We took my parents there for their 65th wedding anniversary and had a very good time. They took good care of us and treated my folks to a special dessert for free. Food was very good although the halibut special was rather bland. Overall, a pleasant ambiance and experience."
