Family Meallove this placeThe food has been wonderful.
Each staff member has been attentive, friendly and very helpful.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBreakfast meetingMet a long-time friend there for breakfast on a Monday morning. The service was great and the quality of the food was excellent. It was my third visit to the restaurant and all meals there have been really good. So happy that they opened Family Meal.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant SurprizeOn a trip to MD from ME, we visited Family Meal on the recommendation of friends from the area. We were specifically looking for a good restaurant that sources food locally, and Family Meal didn't disappoint. The meal was delicious, the presentation creative and the service friendly and efficient. A very nice dining experience.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBest brunch in townI can only speak for the breakfast offerings (out of town visitor) but I was greatlyimpressed both with the offerings on the menu and the quality of the food. Friendly service, nice semi-upscale surroundings, very clean. I would most certainly come back again.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat to have a local placeGreat to have a local place for a good dining experience and you can also can feel comfortable bringing kids -even the little ones5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere, casual butGreat atmosphere, casual but GREAT food! Bring an empty belly because you have to take part in the Appetizers and Shares for the table...as well as dessert! The Earl Grey Donughts are a must have!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTry the Fried ChickenThe fried chicken is excellent. There's enough to share. Very popular, I noticed most tables had at least 1 order. We did not care for the Crispy Brussels sprouts with bacon, there was a puddle of oil in the bottom of the dish5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Lunch SpotEnjoyed lunch with a friend at Family Meal. Great service, delicious food--highly recommended. We weren't rushed and had time to talk. We will return.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant delivers foodThis restaurant delivers food that is a delicious inventive tie on diner food, executed perfectly. For people looking for casual fun unusual food.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe will definately be back,We will definately be back, the best food we have had in a long time.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were outstanding.Food and service were outstanding. Duck Fat Fries...AWESOME! Fried chicken was excellent though it was very large portion (enough for two or three). The grilled fish tacos were devine. The deviled eggs were a little too mustardy for me.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe made reservations for lunchWe made reservations for lunch on Friday for my wife's birthday. She loves the fried chicken! Good thing we made reservations! It was crowded for lunch. Great service, great food. We come from Rockville often. It's worth the drive.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMDestination dining in FrederickA very entertaining and delicious restaurant in Frederick. They promote themselves to be an upscale diner, but they exceed that. The food shows amazing creativity, top-notch ingredients, and excellent execution. The ambiance is that of a modern diner, but the menu is creative new American. We had the Chicken Pot Pie Fritters, which were delicious and whimsical, my wife has a new favorite hamburger, and I had the Skate which was taken beyond the usual Bistro preparation and given a curry and lentil twist. The cocktails also showed the same creativity and excellence as the food. The wine list was small, but well chosen. I've read some reviews saying the prices are too high, but that wasn't my experience considering the food quality.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food but there is noGreat food but there is no ambiance. Which is not a bad thing when the food is great.
I had rockfish and my husband had fried chicken. We could definitely taste the Voltaccio touch. Delicious.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMReally great food like I wouldReally great food like I would make at home so perfect for a family meal;4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMTheservice and food were excellent,Theservice and food were excellent, but it was really noisy! It was sometimes hard to hear others at our table.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBBQ and Burger and a Tangy Tart!!My wife and I enjoyed sampling another of the chef's spots. I think Family Meal was formerly a car dealership on the outskirts of Frederick--great parking easy access and a lunch not to be missed if you are touring Fredrick. We have been to Volt (great!!!) and saw where "Lunch Box" was located. Bought a sharp chef's paring knife from Edgeworks while working up our appetites. On the way to eat, we found McCutchens for jam and ended the tour at lunch where we enjoyed a great cheese burger and a BBQ--topped off by a tangy lemon tart made by a well trained pastry chef.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved it. Really spectacularWe loved it. Really spectacular - the cocktails are amazing and perfectly balanced. The food was amazing as well.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA great way to get Chef Voltaggio'sA great way to get Chef Voltaggio's great food in a diner setting at just a little over diner prices!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time guest, OUTSTANDINGFirst time guest, OUTSTANDING meal all of our selections were delicious and satisfying.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a family. Two adults and two children were in our party. The menu was varied enough for everyone. My fried chicken was outstanding and I believe everyone enjoyed their meal.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was good and a twistThe food was good and a twist on traditional diner options. We drove in from DC for dinner. We both agreed that while we wouldn't make a special trip out to Fredrick to eat there again, it would be a good place to stop if we were in the area.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA new favoriteFamily Meal has become one our favorites. Upscale comfort food that changes with the season. Prices are moderate and portions are plentiful.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came here with two children,We came here with two children, ages 8 and 9. It is the perfect venue for parents who want a high-quality meal at a restaurant that is appropriate for children. It may be a little pricey, but the quality of food makes the price worth it. Our server was outstanding: friendly, knowledgeable about the food, and absolutely unflapped by the presence of lots of children in the restaurant. It wouldn't necessarily be my first choice for a dinner with one or more adults, but that's not because of the food or the service. The restaurant is true to its name - a great place for a family meal, and that includes kids.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was uniformly outstanding. The food was uniformly outstanding. An interesting and well executed variation on simple classic American favorites. This is a comfortable, casual alternative to the more sophisticated menu and atmosphere of Volt -- analagous to Michel Richard's Central vs. Citronelle. Kudos to Mr. Voltaggio. The minimalist open dining area adds to the relaxed feeling, but with the totally unnecessary and too loud music, it makes the restaurant a bit on the noisy side. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive -- perahps too attentive in the case of our primary waiter, but clearly concerned about our enjoyment of the meal.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Bryan V's restaurantsGreat location, great food, great service. Go there anytime you can. It's everyday affordable food with an upscale edge to it.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMYum yum!! Wish I had roomYum yum!! Wish I had room for the adult milkshakes!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experience. I'llExcellent experience. I'll continue eating at this for quality of food and service.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA Cut Above Family FoodIt is what it said it is--a family restaurant. Although much of the menu included small plates and sandwiches, we ordered 2 entrees which were delicious--the shrimp and grits and the rockfish and faro. The list of draft beers was extensive and reasonably priced. I should have ordered one rather than a glass of the overpriced wine. As it sits in an area of warehouses on a huge parking lot, it has no ambience but the interior decor is modern and inviting.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic FoodReading the menu descriptions does not do the food justice. The food is more than the sum of its parts. The tastes combine to make up some of the most delicious food I have eaten. The service was a little awkward. It wasn't bad but it wasn't smooth. I can't wait to go back and try it again.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love this restuarant andWe love this restuarant and enjoy sitting at the couter to watch all the action.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMYay! What a find!!What an awesome find. While we are familiar with Frederick's East Street area, we blew past the restaurant twice before we managed to find it. The building's exterior is dark and looks like it was the home of a nondescript used car dealership. It sits in the middle of a great big parking lot. And the Family Meal sign itself is small. But once inside, oh my! The place bustles and has a very cool urban diner vibe. Our server was so attentive and sweet, and everything we ordered was delicious with Voltaggio's unique spin.....I keep thinking about those Pot Pie Fritters! Yum!
We will go back again and again.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI was surprised that I wasI was surprised that I was charged for iced tea refills.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time! Excellent friedGreat time! Excellent fried chicken! Fries were good. Dessert was odd- apple crumble was not what we expected. Overall- great restaurant!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOur second visit, but theOur second visit, but the first with a 3 year old in tow. Something for everyone , good service. Great place for families!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI tried the BBQ Pork sandwichI tried the BBQ Pork sandwich which was very good.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
