Took some friends from out of town here for lunch. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside overlooking the golf course. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Food was wonderful. Terrific broccoli and sausage quiche and one of my favorites, the shrimp and corn chowder. We indulged in a shared dessert of Creme brulee, which was perfect. Expensive, but worth it.

The Fairview Dining Room at the Washington Duke Inn is always a fantastic place to go for excellent food and wonderful service, provided in a comfortable and quiet environment (even the outdoor patio by the green is quiet). Their Executive Chef creates dishes that always taste delicious and look appeal also. He's also flexible and able to very skillfully accommodate and special dining needs, which is impressive given how difficult it can sometimes be to adapt a balanced dish with different ingredients. The service is always wonderful, with a devoted and pleasant staff. My wife and I enjoy coming here regularly, and have never had either a bad meal or any kind of negative experience. Far and away one of our favorite restaurants.

We visited on a Saturday night for my wife's birthday. The food and service reminded me of what the term fine dining really means. By far the best service I have had in the past twenty years. The food was perfectly cooked and presented. The recommend wine was a perfect fit with our food. If you want to treat yourself, I strongly recommend the Washington Duke Fairview Dining Room. They do an amazing job.

Restaurant was practically deserted for pre-football game Saturday am brunch. Serving a salad and main course took 1.5 hours. Food was not up to the standards we expect from Fairview where we have dined several times before.

My wife and I came here for our 35th wedding anniversary. We don't come here often because it is pricey but for special occasions, which this was, it was worth it. As we've come to expect, every thing about the place was perfect. I highly recommend the Fairview.

Well I had a problem when the Wash Duke eliminated the table cloths. Style matters to me. But I turned a blind eye, because the food was still good. Now, the Wash Duke is taking change too far. A sacred item in my mind is the crab cakes. The crab cakes were lukewarm. And the the taste was different. I questioned our server and he confirmed that the recipe is different. Prepare yourself. Or just order the other brunch staple, shrimp and grits!. They were delicious.

We went to Fairview Dining Room for Sunday brunch to celebrate my birthday. It could not have been more perfect. The pianist was wonderful, the service was outstanding and the eggs benedict was the best I've ever had (and I have had it at many other restaurants in Durham and Raleigh). My husband had the western omelet and my son had the steak and eggs. The steak was ordered medium rare and that is exactly what was served. They were both impressed with their meals as well. We will be back soon!

Want to commend the wait staff and kitchen for going out of their way to attend to my special diet needs. I don't think I've been to a restaurant where my server was so attentive to helping me find food I could eat AND to making sure that I was taken care of all the way down to dessert.

We have dined at Fairview numerous times. We have never been disappointed. The service is just perfect. One itty bitty quibble this time. It took some time before we could attract server's attention to get a wine refill. This is very minor but when everything else is so perfect, it stands out. My wife had the crab cakes and I had the salmon tagliatelle. Both dishes were excellent as was the shrimp, corn and bacon chowder. Of course we'll return. We always look forward to another visit.

The GPS said we had arrived at the Fairview Hotel but saw nothing but Forest. Next entrance was Washington Duke Inn. We drove in for directions, and were told we had arrived at the Fairview! (We live out in the sticks in Hillsborough- sorry) We needed to ask for directions twice before successfully arriving at a hostess stand deep inside. We asked to sit outside and then discovered we were at the Vista, not the Fairview Hotel dining room? Wait staff was very friendly, hostess was friendly and happy to the point of being disturbing! Otherwise we enjoyed the food and the view of the golf course. The eggs in my Benedict were cooked perfectly, and the plating was very good. Will go back for an afternoon drink outside.

Fairview Dining Room is a popular fine dining establishment off of Duke University's Campus. Because of this, I expected at least average customer service. However, my table of 6 waited approximately 20 minutes between every portion of our meal (ordering drinks [wait 20 minutes] receiving drinks [wait 20 minutes] finish meal [wait 20 minutes] receive dessert menu [wait 20 minutes] receiving dessert). This turned into a nearly 3 hour meal. I then made a complaint, and nothing was done. We received no apology or comp. To be fair, the food was delicious, though I left the restaurant with an unwanted bitter taste in my mouth from the service.

The dining room has an old world elegance with windows overlooking a golf course and changing evening sky at dusk. The wait staff is kind and eager to please but not as well trained as might be expected. A few dishes are simply stellar and could be served to rave reviews at the finest restaurants in the world. Our favorites were the sweet silver corn bisque which was creamy, sweet and flavorful as well as the hand fried pies which consisted of two tiny crescent shaped blueberry pies in an amazing pastry dough served with a blood orange ice cream and a delicious basil flavored sauce. These two dishes would have been on par with any we've ever had at the finest restaurants in the world. We wish the others dishes had been as consistent.

The Fairview was quiet, the background music set a lovely tone, not too loud. The staff was friendly and efficient, as well as, courteous. There were very few customers the day we dined, but I would assume that the same service would be afforded if it were crowded. The meals we had were perfectly prepared. Spent the night at the a joining Washington Duke Inn and ate dinner at the Fairview for our anniversary. This is a very nice upscale restaurant with great views of the close by golf course. A piano player entertained throughout the meal which was nice as long as you were not seated too close. I had the cornbread crusted halibut which was good, but hard to taste the cornbread and the tomato jus was acidy and overpowering. My wife had the crab cake which she enjoyed. The waiter was always prompt and they acknowledged our special event. In fact, the chef sent out a nice plate with brownies which was nice, but we had already ordered desert. Overall, a very good evening and a recommended stop.

This place is really for people visiting Duke or currently associated with Duke. It's a super nice place looking out onto a beautiful golf course, and sometimes there is live piano music which is just fantastic. The servers are really top-notch and very accommodating. It's pretty much everything you would expect from a splendid restaurant in a beautiful hotel. Students get to use their food points here which is really the only reason I came here. Or else there would be no way I could afford a $70 dinner.
