Portion sizes were great, food was
great. My only complaint was the draft coming from the door in the back. But everything else was lovely."

If one of the two of us had not
become ill shortly after our meal I would have rated this restaurant more highly. The experience was very pleasant and the food was nice. The best part was the service. We had to send one bottle of wine back and the second bottle was not great but at least it was not off. I doubt I will return."

There were three of us at "Fable,"
for dinner. My only complaint concerns the limited menu and the very unusual "comes with" items. My friends and I each ordered the same entree because it was the only selection that didn't come with a lot of very odd accompaniments. Kumquats, for instance. And, we all found it to be superb. We would have ordered dessert, but the dessert menu was just as odd. The service was really excellent."

I went to Fable for Valentine's
Day, so maybe my experience was unusual. I really liked the ambience and look and feel of the restaurant, and the prix fixe was solid. I didn't like how one of the dishes (prime rib) came with an additional fee on the prix fixe, but maybe I just haven't been around enough to see this anywhere else. Overall, the total bill was just a tad pricey for what I thought the value of the meal was, but again -- Valentine's Day. Prix fixe. Other than that, the service was great (our waiter warned us that if we wanted the molten cake, we should order early) and I was curious about the back patio for outdoor dining. The chairs were also super comfortable. Would visit again on a normal night and try to eat out back."

Came here on a Saturday evening
for dinner not knowing what to expect. Greeted very promptly at the door and immediately took a liking to the decor and feel of the place. Service was excellent. Food was great. Had the swordfish steak and also the cioppino - both were done excellently. did not have room for dessert so can't comment there. overall a great experience. will definitely return for more!"

It is great to find a very nice
restaurant within walking distance to the Castro Theater. The menu was small but comprehensive. The wine list was full of good choices and the food was great! I look forward to the opening of their finished back yard patio when it gets warm!"

I've been here 4-5 times and each
time I've enjoyed myself. The food is very good. The host/ owner is always very accommodating. The service is friendly and attentive. Nice to have it in the neighborhood."

Waiters - ordered Entree and after
5 minutes waiter returned to table to confirm what we had ordered. Appetizer seriously overpriced 14.00 for common salad. 13.00 for a half glass of well red wine. Bread offered to the tables sat after us during meal when we asked waiter about bread he indicated thet the restaurant did not waste bread and it was only brought to tables who specifically asked for bread however the menu nor the waiter had mentioned that bread was available upon request. Chairs in restaurant had tears in the cloth which lead to the dining room seeming unkept."

Based on recommendations we
decided to dine at Fable early Friday evening before a movie at the Castro.Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and seated. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgable about the evening offerings. We were disappointed that the Caesar salad was no longer on the menu but a new salad , a mixed selection of greens, was quite good. We also shared the deviled eggs which are amazing and not to be missed. The pork chop ,one of the best chops I have ever eaten, was brined and then cooked to perfection. This restaurant is definitely one I recommend and will visit again."

I've worked and dined in the
Castro for 15 years, and have to say that this might be the best meal I have had in this neighborhood ! I will definitely return to Fable, and highly recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is very cozy, yet chic. And the staff were very friendly."

What can I tell you about this gem
of the Castro. Beautiful dinning room, great service, menu so good it's hard to decide what to order. In the waste land that is the Castro dinning scene, Fable stands out with quality."

The atmosphere at Fable is very
inviting, largely due to the very friendly and courteous staff and the intimate size of the space. the walls are decorated with interesting murals and art, warm colors... the food is flat out delicious! Everything we had was good! the crab and tangerine appetizer so bright and light! The duck confit with radicchio salad so good, with warm duck on chilled greens. very fresh ingredients! great presentation,. Nice wine list ."

Fable was one of the best dinning
experiences I have had in awhile. The staff was very attentive, we had a late reservation and ended up being among the last two tables there but our waiter remained friendly. Decent wine list They had a special app that evening, Oysters Rockefeller- I think it may have been the best Rockefeller I've ever had, if not in the top 3. At our table we had a mixture of pork chops and chicken, everyone was pleased. We ended the meal with some kind of apple brandy tart crumble thing. Great place for a nice evening out!"

This was my third time dinning at
Fable. Each time I thought the service and the ambiance were excellent. While I expect the food to be good in most San francisco restaurants for them to survive. I have found consistantly the food has been excellent each and every time. I've loved all the desserts; especially the coconut cream cake. If your looking for a great restaurant to enjoy an intimate dinner this is the place."

I'm not vegan, but the vegan
shepherd's pie was outstanding as was the chicken breast; a lovely little chocolate mousse for dessert; a nice glass of pinot noir from the by-the-glass wine list. I would come back here anytime. My only (small complaint) was the noise level, which came from the diners on either side of us; they were just carrying on their conversations, but the tables are close together. The staff was friendly, the service excellent, the room warm and cozy."

I took my other half to Fable for
his birthday dinner. It was a great meal. He had the black cod with a mixed salad to start, I had the seasonal beef stew with the pork checks appetizer. Everything was very tasty and well-presented. We had the wine pairings with all four dishes, which was a nice touch. Dessert of butterscotch pudding was a great finish. We were impressed with the very attentive service and the physical transformation this new restaurant has made compared with its predecessors in the space. Overall, a great dinner and a new neighborhood gem!"

I really enjoyed Fable and will
definitely be back. The service was fantastic and everything I was served was delicious. The space is a little small (at least indoors, I didn't see the patio) so it might not be great for a larger group, but thankfully they don't cramp the seating together so you still feel like you have some privacy to your dining experience. Order the pork chop! It's fantastic!"

3 of my closest friends and I went
to Fable on a Tuesday night. We were greeted with a warm welcome and offers of wine. The clam strips and the roasted chicken were some of the best dishes I've had at a SF restaurant ever. Highly recommend."

Gem of a cozy little restaurant
with pleasing ambiance. High quality food artistically prepared. Most of the dishes were delightful like their salad with goat cheese and hazelnuts. The beetloaf was tasty but seemed to be lacking in heartiness and texture. The huckleberry apple crisp was delicious and unusual. A thoughtful and enjoyable winelist rounds out the experience. Service was good but a little slow so be prepared to pace your meal. A bit on the pricey side so you may wish to limit your visits to special occasions. Atmophere is intimate."

The patio outside was heated with
lamps and just lovely. Gracious, attentive service by our waiter (with a tattoo sleeve) and the manager. The food was wonderful and thoughtfully prepared. We got the beet salad and soft shell crab as appetizers, the scallops entree and scallop appetizer as our main dishes, and the raspberry/pear crisp for dessert. Went there for our anniversary, and it made for a perfect night."

Unimposing on the outside, this
restaurant generates a feeling of warmth from first you enter in the bar with elevated seats and go to 2's or 4's in the back or to a nice heated outdoor, covered patio. Waiters are EXTREMELY helpful and frequent chef's visits are a plus. Wine list is well selected and reasonably priced, with one of the best descriptions for taste.. We had an Albarino from Longoria. An excellent gazpacho, was followed by a substantial take on the Caesar salad with heirloom tomatoes, avocado, shaves of parmesan and Spanish white (not too salty) anchovies. The pork chop with au gratin potatoes is best ordered medium, served hot. Party raved over scallop/pork belly and soft-shell crab. Don't miss mousse, butterscotch pudding."

The food was well-presented and
aimed high. The ahi tuna entrée was a tad overcooked, i.e., dry, but scallop entrée with pork belly was wonderful comfort food and a nice-sized portion. To be honest, I'm doing this survey a few weeks later, but what stands out from the meal was the terrific chocolate dessert (time makes me forget WHAT type of chocolate dessert it was). Our waitress was a tad too giggly and forgot an appetizer (a problem lessened by that omission NECESSITATING the dessert, which we loved, AND that we weren't charged for it). It was dimly lit and romantic, something not easy to find in the Castro. So overall, I (we) will return..."

We were seated immediately on
arrival after making a reservation. Food was good: well prepared and adequate portions. I did not care for the grainy, sandy sea salt on the otherwise smooth creamy chocolate mousse dessert. Service was very friendly and attentive. No mention of the special occasion noted in the Open Table reservation was made by the staff. Ambience was perfect for catching p with a visiting friend: lively but relaxed and not too noisy."

We had a really wonderful dining
experience at Fable. The tomato soup was lovely as were our main dishes, the Beetloaf and the Tuna, followed by a tremendous Banana pudding. All around, the experience was top notch and I'd highly recommend Fable!"

A great new restaurant in The
Castro. All the dishes we ordered were great. Chicken dish was very moist and tasty. The tomato salad appetizer was very flavorful. All three desserts (bittersweet chocolate, pear raspberry crisp and banana dessert)were special. Waite staff were knowledgeable about the wines and it doesn't hurt that our waiter was hot!"

The food was very solid, but no
real flair. A good home cooked meal and a great neighborhood spot but the prices were a litttle more than what the food delivered. The space is cozy and friendly and the service was excellent. Realign the prices with the overall quality of the food, bring the food up or the prices down, and this place would be great."

but everything was only good if it
was eaten with everything on the plate. the sesame seed encrusted tuna dish was only good with the rice that came with it, and the brussel sprouts were only good with the grapes. the best thing we had was the peach blackberry crisp."

Liked the atmosphere and the
service was very good. The food lacked seasoning in every dish, the presentations were eh and the menu needs to be more varied. I will return to make sure it wasn't an off night because I did like the place."

Had their signature Pot Roast -
lived up to its reputation which was delicious and heavenly. However, I was told that it used to have a parmeasan popover that goes with it. Unfortunately, they omitted that from this entrée.........disappointed with that. Note to restaurant: please bring this back to this main dish."
