Diner Reviews
  • "I've been many many times in the last 30 years, but it has lost its appeal. The prices are crazy high and it no longer includes salad. The split charges are over the top considering I don't care for the potatoes or beans. Ever since they raised the prices, the place feels empty and has lost it's crazy busy feel. The bar where the guitar/singer is was pretty empty and it used to be packed. I felt bad for him. The food is still good, but there are plenty of great restaurants now in SLO and Pismo with better prices. I've had many great memories of McLintocks, but I'm afraid there won't be more."

  • "We had so much fun celebrating our 10 year anniversary at McLintock's! We got a great table with a view of the ocean, great food, and a special anniversary treat for dessert. I was so impressed with the level of service and truly that was the best steak I have ever had. I even enjoyed the onion ring appetizer and I don't usually like onion rings; they were super crunchy and tasty though. Overall, I was very impressed and would definitely go back."

  • "I have been at this restaurant several times. That last time several years ago. I was truly disappointed with my meal and the cost associated with it. I spent $160.00 + for my meals (4). I brought my daughter and her friend who were both 18 years old to have them experience at McLintocks. They never finished there Tri-tip and brought a portion of it home. Neither one of them liked their food and I thought it was a waste to take to this restaurant. They also had an opportunity to have the water poured in the glass over their heads. They got completely soaked and even though humorous at the time, it was not what we expected. I was very disappointed with the food and the cost of the meal. Thanks, Dale M."

  • "Had the worst and toughest new york steak and my wife had the toughest filet mignon she has ever eaten. Service was terrible because they said they had a banquet in the back room. Been there several times over the years with great experiences. Will not be going back to this place."

  • "The artichokes are very good. The steaks and lobster are great and worth every penny here. The service and atmosphere here is great."

  • "It's been about 18 years or so since I was last at the McClintocks Dining house in Shell beach and at first the specials of the day threw me for a bit of a loop. However after bypassing the attempts to be a New York steakhouse and digging into the classic menu I found central coast BBQ just as i remembered it. Excellent and so much that i had to request a take-home bag. Worth every penny spent!"

  • "made online reservations for 830 host didn't have them wanted to see my email confirmation - host kind of rude-as we were checking in he was talking to us and calling out parties of people confused if he was looking for our reservation, asking if those names were us or if he was just annoyed service great food great"

  • "My wife and I stop by Mclintocks every time we are in the Shell Beach area. They always have good food (especially the steaks), drinks, and service. If you like vodka and lemons, I highly recommend the lemon drops. If you want a great view, make reservations just before sunset and ask for a window table. The sunsets over the ocean are always great. I highly recommend this place anytime you are in the area as their food is some of the best around."

  • "My wife and I have been going to the Mclintock's in Shell Beach for many years and it is one of our favorites. We were in Paso Robles wine tasting recently and decided to give the local Mclintock's there a try (and it was recommended by the manager of the wine tasting room we visited). The food is very good basic food that is prepared the way you want without any attitude or argument. If you like vodka, I highly recommend the Lemon Drops as they are made here like they used to be at the Shell Beach location. The decor is very basic western, nothing too fancy but clean. I highly recommend this location is you are in Paso and want a good steak dinner."

  • "Took my wife to the coast for Valentines Day weekend. It's always a pleasure to dine at Mclintocks. The food is always great and the portions are huge. Whether you are looking for a romantic place to eat or just looking for great food, Mclintocks is the place to be when your visiting the central coast."

  • "I'd seen McClintock's several times when visiting Pismo Beach but had not eaten there. My husband and I planned a romantic Valentine's get-away and eating at McClintock's was part of our planning. The menu was pricey, but the value was great! Food was of excellent quality and copious portions. The menu offered a variety of choices. The restaurant was full, but our servers were cheerful and attentive. Conversation was difficult as the noise level was high. The view of the ocean added a touch of romance to our dinner. We will go back!"

  • "Took the in laws for moms birthday. Service was less than average. Food was bland. Carpet was really dirty. Had heard so many good things about this place and none was lived up to."

  • "For 'meat eaters', F. McClintocks Saloon and Dining is absolutely the best restaurant on the Central Coast! My Rib was done to perfection. Two choices of sides and I heartily advise the garlic mashed potatoes and grill camp beans. You will never walk away hungry!"

  • "Service was very slow,.. food was cold and overcooked when arrived. Due to the length of time it took to get the food, did not want to send it back. Manager did not seem to care when advised! Very bad experience!"

  • "Reservations are always easy, and the staff and always so pleasant. We absolutly love the food no matter what we order. We don't drink wine so we can't make a comment there. You know when you drive by and the parking lot is always packed it has to be a favorite place to eat for a lot of people."

  • "My wife and I recently celebrated our 25th anniversary. The one place we both had a hankering for was F. McLintocks. The service from the start was prompt, attentive and correct. My wife had the 30-day aged Rib Eye; I had the aged Top Sirloin (my favorite cut for flavor). My steak was more Med then MR: our server corrected the issue immediately. The sides are appropriate for Santa Maria style barbecue, and you never leave hungry. Besides the really good sides, this location includes dessert with your dinner. The whole evening, for good steaks, plentiful sides, dessert and drinks (plus tax & tip) came in around $100. We tried another F. McLintocks location in SLO, and got the same great food and service."

  • "I have been eating at McLintocks for over 30 years; I am a steak and potatoes kind of guy. It sets the bar and has never disappointed me! The menu makes it difficult not to find a dish for all tastes. It will not disappoint!"

  • "We had eaten there before and was disappointed, decided to give it one more try for our 2nd anniversary, we are from Visalia and had the lots to compare to, Tommy's, L and L Steak house , ECT... F. Mc Lintock's, stepped up and really came through, GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE, THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR 2nd ANNIVERSARY AN EXPERIENCE TO REMEMBER."

  • "We were 8 friends for a girl's night out and we're not disappointed! Our table was ready with two steaming baskets of yummy onion rings to welcome us. The food portions were more than ample with many great sides to choose from. We had a great evening & will return again soon."

  • "There was definately enough food to go around, the onion rings with salsa were an interesting alternative to bread and butter! Overall the meal was good and the waiters (with their water jug antics) were very entertaining to say the least."

  • "McLintock's is a go-to restaurant when we're anywhere near Pismo--even when staying as far away as San Simeon! The steaks are always the best, the service is impeccable, and the turkey nuts alone are worth the trip! If only there was a McLintock's closer to the S.F. Bay Area... If there were any complaint at all, it would be how pricey it has become since we first started frequenting the place. The early bird seating/menu makes it much more affordable but even at dinner time, it's worth the visit so long as you're prepared to shell out a bill or two. =)"

  • "I had heard good things about this restaurant but was unpleasantly surprised. The place was packed, typically a good sign. Unfortunately, everything about it was mediocre. The food was average at best, and prices are high. Steaks weren't particularly tender, vegetables were bland and undercooked, and the bowls of baked beans, fried potatoes and garlic bread were nothing special. Same with the dessert of a single scoop of ice cream with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. For an average price of $35-$40 per dinner, I felt ripped off. Sure, there was way more food than I could eat - but it just wasn't very good. I don't understand the attraction of the place. The cowboy theme and noise level were also unappealing."

  • "This restaurant is by far my favorite. I drove 350 miles to eat at McClintocks for my birthday. The food was absolutely fantastic. Fun place to be as well. They even let us bring in our own bottle of wine without charging!! Just a super place to go!"

  • "Been loving this place for almost 20 years. We live 3 hours away but always make it in when we can. The steaks are on a level all their own!!!"

  • "What a cash cow this place is. (Pun intended!) Super rustic, low-brow furnishings, ambience & serve ware. Loud & rambunctious. Just as if not more expensive as fine dining steakhouses without the overhead expenses. Meat was all very good quality and delivered with the "doneness" requested which is always tricky for our family since we have preferences ranging from rare to well done. Our two meat lovers thought the oak flavor somewhat overwhelmed the flavor of the meat. Sides were just average. Waitress was efficient if a bit harried, and those busboys hustled! We can check this landmark off our list, but I don't think I'd go back."

  • "We went there because it was close to the place we were staying and other local restaurants had a long wait. When we sat down, our server brought us fried onion rings and salsa instead of bread. Okay? Briana took our order right away and was attentive. We both ordered a 6 oz filet and they were cooked to our liking, but the rest of the meal was pretty bad. My creamed spinach tasted like grass clippings. My bearnasie sauce was way too heavy on the tarragon and vinegar. My husband barely touched his Mac and Cheese. Even the bread pudding dessert was tasteless. Not a great place to eat if you want good food. We went to several other restaurants during our stay in Pismo that were a lot better."

  • "Steaks ranged from $30-$40. Very noisy with frequent games involving a blindfolded waitress on a ladder pouring water into a glass perched on the head of a patron, directed by the shouted instruction of the other table guests. This happened four times during our dinner."

  • "It's always puzzling to me when people come to a restaurant that's renown for their steaks and meat order shrimp scampi. Some in our party did-not me. I had the T-Bone with the mushroom and grilled onions. 24 ounces later I was totally satisfied. Highly recommend. Even though the price was high well worth it. McClintocks has always been a tradition with my wife's family (50+ years). Great place to eat s/(Kathleen's husband Angelo)"

  • "My husband and I have been going to McClintock's for many years now. We have noticed that each time the quality of the food seems to have decreased in the last two years. We were not impressed with the bacon wrapped filet (the color seemed off) or the special of the braised short ribs (it was plural on the special board and when asked the waitress said 2 ribs yet only 1 was on the plate). The onion rings were warm and not hot (even when asked for a 2nd basket) and the garlic bread was soggy. For $70+ we think the food should be great and food served hot."

  • "It's a classic steakhouse if you like the western theme with a beautiful view of the ocean. I love the food - entrees and sides are great. Very upbeat feeling, friendly staff. I always enjoy dinner there."

  • "This is still one of our favorite restaurants in the area. In fact, we've gone to dinner here 2 times in a month. The one thing I've noticed that is a bit disappointing is that the portions have gotten a bit smaller and less things are included with your entree (rice pilaf, salad) than before (not counting the 'fixins), and the prices have gone up steadily over the years. If you can get over that, the service is usually very good and the food is excellent."

  • "We were extremly disappointed in the food quality, I ordered filet mignon and it was overcooked, tuff and not worth the $40 price tag....... My husband's dinner was not much better. The rest of our six party all complained about their food either being dry, overcooked or simply not very good, only one had a dinner that they actually enjoyed..... Also for a steak house they should serve Prime Rib, not even on their menu..... Additionally I resent being charged $9.25 for a cocktail of JD, the drink was weak and I could have bought my own large bottle for the price of the two drinks. This was not the McClintocks that I remember from a few years ago...."
