  • "This was our second visit to Extra Virgin. We really enjoy the variety and quality of the tapas. Of note on this visit was the poblano mac and cheese, the wood fired mushrooms, and the apple pecan crostada with butter pecan ice cream."

  • "Service is a plus in this casual find. Great food with an eclectic menu. A Michael Smith restaurant. If you don't want the elegance next door, want to have a small meal and you want to be served by a long-tenured casual staff, this is the place. You won't be disappointed. (This was my fortieth or so visit. I will keep coming back.)"

  • "Extra Virgin is one of our favorite KC restaurants. We like to try different places, but always return to Extra Virgin for the atmosphere, wonderful, different, enjoyable small plate choices. Each Extra Virgin experience can be totally different just by the choices that are made!! Even though Michael Smith's namesake restaurant is next door, he does not shortchange Extra Virgin on his involvment and presence!! Always a fun time!! Walk-ins are possible, but reservations are better!!"

  • "Third time at ExtraVirgin, still love the place for the vibe, ambiance, food...it's definitely a neighbourhood gem. The staff is great. My only negative comment to the restaurant would be the "t-shirt " outfit for the staff...I think it's a little too casual for this type of restaurant...coming from a metropolitan city, I would expect higher standard on that level. However, the staff is very professional and even when being friendly, they are not over friendly, they keep the "etiquette"."

  • "A neat restaurant with lots of choices from the menu. What I especially liked is the fact that the little plates are perfect in size portion that you can try several."

  • "This is always one of my favorite restaurants to visit. The food & service are always good. Try the duck tongue tacos, spanish meatballs, and beet salad."

  • "I've been here many times and live sharing it with people that gave never been. Amazing and unique cocktails and small plates!"

  • "The experimental, Spanish-inflected small plates daytime menu, ever variable, has now absorbed the excellent rabbit gnocchi from Michael Smith next door, no longer open for lunch. Additions since last visit are the excellent baked oysters and shrimp-fried rice. Shrimp bisque is on hiatus in favor of French onion soup. Whole roast branzino is gone, while hanger steak has reverted to its huichlacote version. All-day "happy hour" half-pricing now survives only in a different menu from 4-6pm, though "regular" prices have been reduced on several items and $2 off per glass of wine still applies. All in all, still a bargain banquet for gastronomes, a hotbed of innovation, and an oasis in a still-facelifting neighborhood of downtown KC."

  • "We chose EV for a light meal before the ballet - Dracula - a good choice and convenient to the Kauffman Center. This would not be the place to pick for a quiet romantic evening - energy level is very high and the table arrangements are not conducive to private conversations. Excellent service and good by the glass wine selection. This is not a veggie lovers restaurant - very few "green" choices on the menu."

  • "My wife and I love to try new restaurants. We were referred to Extra Virgin by another couple who said it was the best tapas in town. We both are big fans of La Bodega so we thought we had to try this out. We ordered a number of different tapas and were disappointed in all but one of them--our favorite was the Spanish meatballs. However, the Lebanese hummus was runny--almost like a chick pea soup which tasted watered down. The hanger steak was nothing more than a small piece of steak cut into slices. The poblano mac & cheese had a really funky flavor probably due to the type of cheese used. We ordered churros and chocolate for dessert and the churros were crunchy on the outside and still doughy on the inside. Glad we tried it."

  • "Absolutely amazing food, good portions, decent price. Lacking in service and it was extremely loud, not a good romantic date place."

  • "Food was great but got stuck right by the kitchen where dishes were slaming and the noise level was not good."

  • "Loved the creative menu. Everything was very well prepared. We were new to ordering tapas and they were gracious and helpful. A little loud but did not negatively effect our visit. Well be back!"

  • "We ate at Extra Virgin for V-day (day after) and it was a great experience. Overall, the food was great, although we got a little adventurous with our last course. It is a small plates restaurant, so my wife and I shared 4 plates throughout the night. Out plates consiste of Tuna Civche Tacos (very good), Crab Croquettes (excellent), Pablano Mac and Cheese (excellent), and Duck Tongue Tacos (Adventeroud, just Ok, a not-so-great char flavor that lingered long after meal). For dessert, we had Churros and chocolate, witch was a great way to end the night!"

  • "Michael Smith's Extra Virgin is a gem in the heart of the city. Outstanding service, fabulous bar, exceptional small plates and Michael Smith's great wine list. For a quick dinner, tapas style lingering, cocktails on the patio in warm weather.... it's be best in town!"

  • "Once again, La Bodega served up an exquisite meal consisting of a variety of small plates. I especially enjoyed the stuffed piquillo peppers. Dinner is always fun and exciting at La Bodega because every meal consists of more than the average amount of variety. Each item served is another adventure and there all top quality. Thanks for another great meal!"

  • "I love Extra Virgin. It's always a lot of fun to try new things and share with friends. They have a great half price menu during the week which is when I took a vegetarian/gluten free friend. She had a great time and enjoyed the special diet possibilities. Chickpea fries, oyster mushrooms, meat and cheese board, salad, and hanger steak were all great choices! I can't wait to go back :) The wine choices are also great!!"

  • "This was my first visit & I had many questions. Our server was brief and not very helpful. I was disappointed the Restaurant Week menu changed from the online menu from Pick 5 to Pick 3. If you do the math, you can see it's not a deal, and you are actually over-paying. I can't be sure that all the overages are going to charity. The tapas style dining is fun and interesting. The chorizo fig chicken thighs were delectable! Our bill was returned promptly, but our server never said "thank you" and didn't even say "goodbye" as we were walking out the door. Bottom-line: Not a restaurant week location to visit. Lack-luster service might ruin the incredible food."

  • "We had a great time and the service was fast and easy. The food was amazing. We had the Mac & cheese, mushrooms, empanadas, hanger steak, ceviche tacos and the shrimp cous cous. Everything was delious!"

  • "Splendid decor and attentive service. Loved the tuna tacos and chorizo/fig chicken thighs. Great crust on the mac&cheese. Planning to return for oxtails and crispy pig ear salad; among other things. Nice sangria."

  • "Very energetic, but in a good way. Small plate menu was excellent, lots to chose from and share with friends. Excellent bar service, creative drinks, ridiculous wine list -- as good as you'll find."

  • "I liked the tuna tacos but was not happy with the rest of my meal. We went there for restaurant week. I'm not interested in returning!"

  • "This place was recommended to me to I had high expectations. Only 1 out of the 4 dishes I tried tasted perfect and only 1 out of the 2 desserts I had was good. Everything else was a little too oily, a little too much wine, or just did not taste good. Might just not be my type of food. Service was good though."

  • "I kept meaning to try Extra Virgin as I had heard it is great food with a few items that are considered "off the beaten path" for city folks. Restaurant week seemed the perfect opportunity--it was! Our reservation was somewhat late for most people (9:30) but it suited our situation for the evening. The restaurant was clean, inviting, and hopping! Our server was very attentive--even with the late night rush. The food--AMAZING! Tuna ceviche tacos, french onion soup, empanadas, ravioli and more. The plates were more than enough for the two of us. The best part was the opportunity to try many things instead of just two or three (as we would have had it been a regular night out). We will defintely be back!"

  • "It was a cold January night and our happy hour was quiet and toasty. There was a table ready for our large group. Food options were very diverse and upon ordering we received them quickly. Food was great."

  • "I had been hearing about how great Extra Virgin is for awhile and finally decided to go with some out-of-town guests. We were all impressed with the atmosphere, food and friendly service. We had to wait for a bit at the bar when we arrived for our reservation because they were not quite ready for us, the hostess was very nice and the bartenders were friendly as well. We went on the Saturday after Christmas. We split eight plates between four of us and were actually all full on the seventh plate. The Pork Belly Buns and squid dish was amazing! The Chorizo and Fig Filled Chicken Thighs were also very good. My husband and I will definitely be back for dinner! I also want to try their Happy Hour sometime."

  • "We have been looking for exotic foods and we found a gold mine in Extra Virgin. The duck toungue was very good but we thought the star was the ox tail. We are visitors from out of town but we will definitely return to EV on our next trip to KC. 5 stars!!"

  • "We had the fortune of landing the wine room for our office party. This room is great in that it allows you to have your own space and it is very cool to boot. Ben, our server, is HIGHLY amusing & knowledgeable. In short, we had a great time and the food was, as always, phenomenal!"
