i was saving a gift card from my sis i'd received last summer for my birthday so we could sit outside.
finally, after a snowy spring, the day arrived.
bundled because it remained crisp, we enjoyed outdoor dining for a sumtuous meal.
tried some new small plates and thoroughly enjoyed.
must return soon.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat selection diverse andGreat selection diverse and tasty. A favorite dining place for us...5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond Visit in Less Than a WeekWe loved out first visit so much we came back 6 days later. We had another show to catch at the Kauffman Center, and decided to have dinner at Extra Virgin.
Reservations a must on a Friday night. Without one, you will need to content yourself with a spot at the bar - which was hopping. We tried a few more menu items: beef heart and gizzard skewer (not dainty little skewers, but two good-sized ones), mussels (the sauced was too good not to mop up with the grilled garlic bread served along with them), scallops, crispy pig ear salad, and humus. All items did not disappoint.
We also still had room to split a dessert: the strawberry crostada, served with house-made basil ice cream. Winning combination!
Service is attentive, but not intrusive.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place for small platesI was in the mood for tapas/small plates, and Extra Virgin fits the bill.
We tried the duck tongue tacos (four in a serving, served with lime wedge). They were very tasty. Also tried the beef tongue and snails ravioli. Delightful, served with a wine-mushroom sauce.
Empanadas were good, but not our favorite of the dishes we ordered. Stuffed baby eggplants are also a wonderful addition to our selection that evening.
We tried the Turkish baklava, since I was not in the mood for a heavy finish to our meal. Delicate, and not too sweet.
We will be back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find!Great Happy Hour choices. Wonderfully unusual selections. Small plates so you can share and try several things. Loved everything especially the duck tongue tacos. A little loud, but very enjoyable.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOn many of my trips to KansasOn many of my trips to Kansas City, a goal is to dine at Extra Virgin. The menu is broad and each plate or entree from every category is excellent. The wine list is broad and contains many reasonably priced selections where anyone can find a nice bottle they'll enjoy in the $50-70 range that will complement a diverse and leisurely tapas meal. Servers have always been A+ in terms of attentiveness and are knowledgeable about menu and fairly knowledgeable about wines-but are skilled enough to say "I don't know.." and find someone who can help you if you wish. The ambience is nice, very active, and promotes a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience every time.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a wonderful experience! It was a wonderful experience! Thank you. We, okay I was dissappointed, that the brussel sprouts were off the menu as I was salivating for them. =(4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, thoughtful, well-informeExcellent, thoughtful, well-informed service. Unusual dishes well-prepared - anchovies, duck tongue, shaved tuna heart. Good variety of tapas-type foods.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExtraVirgin has been one ofExtraVirgin has been one of my favorite restaurants for a few years now. I take all my out of town visitors there; the food is great, never too crowded to enjoy. I have never had a bad meal there and I think the "small plates" are perfect to try new things and share with others.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible food, affordable priceThis is a great restaurant and really very affordable. The food was absolutely spot on, there was not a dish we didn't love. Enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to eating there again.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great place to tryWhat a great place to try a lot of food choices and ingredients while sipping on inventive cocktails. My wife loved mine (Hot Mess) so much that she set her order aside and ordered another Hot Mess to sip on during our meal... knowing we'd be able finish her original cocktail for dessert;]
The small plates menu was eclectic and showcased different options for fare ie - hot, cold, adventurous, salad and so on. So much to choose from, you just have to stake a claim here and there on the epicurian landscape and let food do the rest.
Service was effective and attentive (if maybe a little too soft-spoken... my wife and I had a hard time hearing/understanding our waiter sometimes).
Definitely a worth a return visit.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe tapas style menu encouragedThe tapas style menu encouraged sharing tastes and made for a very communal and lively dining experience for our group.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the food, loved theLoved the food, loved the energy and friendliness of both staff and patrons. Can't wait to go back.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI forgot how EXCELLENT theI forgot how EXCELLENT the food is here. We opted for the hanger steak, brussell sprouts, fig chicken legs, and the mac and cheese. The wait staff is attentive and cool as is the venue. KC is lucky to have EV!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't blame the customerIt was great until Open Table cancelled my reservation 20 minutes AFTER I already dined there. Then Open Table on their website tells you to call a busy restaurant to work out the issue. Way to own up to your mistake OT.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
