A word from Explorers Club
Perk up your dining-out routine with an adventure over to the artsy, funky, laid-back lands of the Explorers Club. Nestled in a century-old building, the Club bubbles with a Latin and Cuban-influenced decor; there is a lot of character there. The setting seems to perfectly accent the eclectic menu, helmed by Chef Dan Varga.

Vegans and vegetarians will feel as welcome as the carnivores, with many dishes aimed to please every taste and lifestyle. Explore the menu and try items like the "Sweet Plantains with Salsa Yogurt Dressing", the "House Made Hungarian Sausage and Rib Tip Platter", "Roasted Half Chicken", or "Sweet Chile and Soy Tempeh".

The Brunch menu is just as delicious, offering everything from traditional breakfast items to "Huevos Rancheros" and "Cuban French Toast".

Over at the bar, there are plenty of wonderfully-crafted mixed drinks, beers, and wines to accompany your favorite dishes.

NOTEWORTHY: Lots of parking available.

Took my family here when they were visiting from out of town, and I am so glad I did! It was jazz night (Thursday night), which was an unexpected bonus :) Great beer, great food, and GREAT service. There were only two guys working that night and Luke was our server. Even though they were packed to the max, he made sure to be friendly and personable with us, apologizing for the wait (though we really had fast service, even with just the two servers). Gold star for Luke! I have always had great service here, though. I so appreciate Explorers Club, it really helped show my family that the South Side is vibrant and full of character and class.

Service was slow but it was Sunday and it was busy...caters to a much younger crowd and there was a large noisy table of guys across from us made it hard for us to conduct our conversation. Food was decent and great coffee but too far from our neighborhood to make it worthwhile going again. We tried it because it was on our Prestige Dining Card; otherwise we probably would not have checked it out.

We have eaten here over a dozen times and I leave feeling amazed by the food every single time. The servers and owners are friendly and helpful as well. The pace is relaxed bit not what I'd call slow. Don't go here if you're in a hurry anyway because cuisine of this caliber deserves to be savored. I can't say enough good things about Explorer's Club. You owe it to yourself if you enjoy rich, interesting food. Also.....try the jalapeno margarita!

This was our first, but not last, visit to the Explorers Club. The Chorizo burger and sweet potato fries were quite good. The potato pancakes were not quite what we were expecting, but still okay. The sauerkraut cooled off dramatically (and was very sweet). Our server was phenomenal!

Made reservations for brunch, still had to wait for a table for 15 minutes. The owner doesn't greet you, instead he just looks over his glasses at non-white people in a very uncomfortable way. The atmosphere was wrong. Wobbly tables uncomfortable chairs, ugly "artwork" everywhere. Animal print galore. Their chorizo was dry and their bacon was cold. The food took 1.25 hours to come out. Nobody apologized during the wait. Or even acknowledged it. They serve water in buffet style blue plastic tumblers. Very gross. And at the end, after taking two hours to have brunch and getting a stomach head and back ache from the food, noise and chairs respectively. You get the check for 60 dollars. Let's just say this place is not worth time and $

Hungarian Nights with a highly Americanized flare are the best we've found outside of Cleveland. Regular menu fare is eclectic and flavorful. Note: their addictive Mac 'n cheese is NOT the same since Chef Dan Varga left but other items make up for the disappointment. Unless your child is an adventurous eater, their grilled cheese will have to suffice for a children's menu-but it is an amazing Sammie on thick cut crusty bread. It gets loud during high volume which usually hits around 6:30. Sitting facing High St.. during sundown will fry your retinas since their shade doesn't do much good. They have an impressively passable craft beer and wine selection as well as a separate bar area.

Food and service were very good but the noise level was worse than I have ever heard in any restaurant. There was one obnoxious group at a front table that drowned out everything else. I could not hear my wife from across the table. I would go back but if I saw that group there again, I would turn around and leave.

Not sure how hard it is to get a table normally on a Saturday night, but during the OSU game is an optimal time. Had a great fried ravioli appetizer and side salad. The chicken parm entree was generous and very good. Would like to see more of a selection when it comes to seasonal beers (at least three to choose from).

The food was absolutely delicious. Lots of vegetarian options. Prices were suitable for quality of ingredients and the portions were large. I think they may have been understaffed because everything took a while - getting seated (we had a reservation but waited at the door for a while before being acknowledged) refills, taking our order, getting the check. Still, the food was piping hot when it reached us, so it wasn't waiting around for the server to deliver it to us. A person who was not our server helped deliver it and she was pretty brusque. Our server was lovely, but seemed thinly stretched.

This is a small gem of a restaurant in Merion Village, to the south of German Village, in Columbus, OH. My wife and I are both plant-based, so we appreciate the multiple options that are always available at this restaurant. The food and service have always been stellar. Items on the menu are locally sourced when possible. I would highly recommend securing a reservation on Friday and Saturday nights. Enjoy!

I have been here a couple of times for dinner. It is always a pleasant experience. The food is always very good, and quite filling. The drinks are great! The ambiance is semi-quaint...fun artifacts from the owners' travels around the world line some walls...aside from those, it leaves you wanting a bit more of an intimate setting...it seems maybe a bit dining-hall-ish. Aside from that, I really like this place a lot; AND I certainly won't even hold that against them. The food is great, and the service is great; and at the end of the day, thats all I really care about.

We had a reservation for brunch at noon Sunday and were seated promptly. Our order was taken promptly as well but it was more than 45 minutes before our food arrived. This was my third visit to Explorers, one for dinner and two for brunch. The brunch selections I picked on both of my visits were very good and I am glad that I ordered them. Our table also shared Cuban French Toast and the Mango Beignets. I know we all could have had two more plates of both, they were so good. I also had the omelet of the day and it was a nice portion and it was exactly what I expected and wanted. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoys an energetic crowd of people who love food and friends.

Another wonderful meal at Explorers Club. Unfortunately, the whole purpose for this visit was so my mother, a self-proclaimed Reuben expert, could try the lamb pastrami Reuben, but there were none to be had that evening. She settled on the Cuban sandwich which she loved. Just means I will have to bring her back when the Reuben is back on the menu. My chorizo burger was outstanding. Others in our party raved about the jerk chicken and Cuban roast pork. The Kentucky mule cocktail was also fantastic. Keep up the stellar work!

I made a last minute reservation - but we had no problem being seated. The only problem was the special monthly menu was still listed as available on Open Table and when we got there we were told it was only the regular menu because it was almost the end of the month. It was a bit disappointing because it looked like an interesting selection. We ordered from the standard menu and the food wad good and plentiful

This restaurant is somewhat off the beaten path for Columbus, but is well worth a visit. It has a very friendly, helpful staff, and a great menu that seems to change somewhat often and is strong in Latin-American food and vegetarian options. I had the chorizo burger during my most recent visit and it was very well made with a nice side if Cajun fries. Their homemade salsas are great, and definitely pack a punch.

Been hearing about EC for months, food great/service not consistent. The menu was causual almost neighborhood joint feel. We arrived at 7:30 on a Friday and had no trouble being seated quickly. Service was a little slow but worth the wait. Margaritas are some of the best we've had and we've lived in Texas and New Mexico. Pierogis were pan-fried with caramelized onions and mushrooms; they were flavorful, tender and light. They need to put these on the menu as a regular item. Jerk chicken was tender, juicy and had the right amount of spice. Lamb pastrami was tender with the flavors you expect from good pastrami except with a hint of lamb gaminess. Finished dinner with the zucchini bread and pumpkin pudding, licked the plates clean.

Been here almost a dozen times. Got the fried plantain as usual. Outstanding. Always great and a step up from what you'll find most anywhere in Columbus area. The mac and cheese is out of this world amazing. After a taste, my girlfriend kept stealing bites. The Mofongo Burger, which was previously the best burger I could find in Columbus after trying 20 or more of the so-called bests. The beef patty was still fairly good, not the same though. Whatever beef they were using was the best I've tried. Hopefully this was just an exception. Overall, still a great dining experience.
