  • "i expected the lunch menu that was posted online for our lunch Saturday. i would have chosen another restaurant if i knew the options were so limited. the salad was very small and not substantial as a main dish. expensive if expected to order more than 1 or two items for lunch. i won't be back. • "I have had lunch and dinner at Evo Bistro several times - I'm always pleased. The service is consistently attentive without hovering. Every dish has been excellent. Quiet enough for an intimate dinner, yet tapas make a wonderful ice breaker for a group luncheon. You can't go wrong, but try the lamb sliders and their calamari is the best I have had."

  • "Wonderful food and service, but way too noisy between a 30-person party at one end and an "active" bar scene watching a ball game. Not what we would expect for a wine bar and bistro. We stuck it out, though we saw two other couples leave without ordering. We'll go back again (we really like it) but will be far more aware of what's going on when we walk in."

  • "The staff and the manager Gerry Keating do an excellent job of making everyone feel like they are special. It's one of the best kept secrets in Washington area. Excellent food as well"

  • "Evo has begun trend away from a pure tapas-style restaurant to include dinners. They removed the wine dispenser which, while a great idea, could turn very expensive way, which they admit. Their wine list, while relatively small, is very good with Monday & Wednesday as 1/2 price bottles (except for premiums.) They also periodically put their premiums on sale; e.g. we had an excellent and very drinkable 2007 Brunello di Montalcino, listed for $100, for $50. Oh, and there's food as well, almost always very good, sometimes outstanding. We've never had a bad meal; it's fun to experiment. The service is almost always outstanding--enthusiastic people who always make one feel welcome. Only complaint is noise level. Great place!"

  • "It was a lovely night, and the food was good, but not GREAT. They were going for a prix-fixe menu and I think our filet mignon was a little overcooked, but really, overall it was a lovely night."

  • "My second foray to Evo Bistro for lunch proved equally as good as the first time. I was torn between 2 wines and was offered 2 generous tastes to help me make up my mind. I had a grilled tuna salad with a Mediterranean flair. they offered a very fresh baquette with some hummus. Dessert was wonderful...a coffee, chocolate "sundae" confection with coffee beans. Delish. Service was excellent."

  • "Picked Evo Bistro on a whim over Courderoy, Ripple, Wine Kitchen & Iron Gate last weekend. We were blown away by the food. Incredible! Especially the Gnocchi and Salmon Tartare. Server, Katie, was one of the best we've seen recently. We will be back as soon as we can!!! Only issue & why we gave one star less. This is a Wine-oriented place. They describe wines to mislead & don't ID where rating came from. i.e "Amarone" that was just a Valpolicella & not even a Ripasso at $75 or $80. Unconscionable prices. Cheapest wine on the list was something like $48 & that was marked up at least 4x-5x Retail. They offer specials off the high markups but price is still way more than it should be. The Wine kitchen restaurants have wine pricing down pat."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Evo with another couple on February 15. I think that was my first mistake -- it was the day after Valentine's Day, and we had to order three different wines before we got to one they still had in stock. Service was a little disjointed ... forgotten salads, gaps between request and request fulfillment (e.g., "can I have some salt"). We shared some apps, which were excellent. I can't remember which special I ordered, but that was my second mistake. I was disappointed. I'll keep going to Evo, but in the future, I'll avoid it for a few days after Valentine's Day. You should give it a try, too. Just not right after a big "dinner out" holiday."

  • "Evo Bistro used to be really fabulous - amazing tapas and the fun wine bar! Now its just eh...good food but nothing special. Very nice servers but again, totally meh compared to what it used to be."

  • "We shared a variety of very tasty dishes, but tapas-size dishes are priced like full entrees. Note that the place is hard to find! Our GPS could not get us there."

  • "I chose this restaurant for V-day because I wanted to get out of DC and try something new. I am happy I did! The V-day pre-fixe menu was nicely put together and each item was full of flavor. The only two aspects I would have changed was the portions of each course and the dessert. I understand each course is so serve as a smaller version / sample but when leaving a dinner that cost $90, I would hope to leave a little more satisfied. As for the dessert, even though it was classic pairing of melted chocolate and fruit, it waspoorly presented and lacked imagination. Now even though those two aspects did fall a little short from what i expected, the service was excellent. Our server was friendly, engergetic, and informative. Overall - GO!"

  • "I don't know if Evo Bistro tried to handle too many people on Valentines day, but we were disappointed. Most of the meal was fine, not great. The soup was lukewarm, the oysters were good. The gnocci was fine. The linguine noodles were hard and stuck together and while I saw the clam shells, I couldn't find the clams. After one bite, I decided to only eat the artichokes. They forgot to bring the halibut. After informing them, it was brought after the steak. We realized later that they also forgot to bring the bread. Both entree's were fine. The best part of the dinner was the desert, fresh fruit and chocolate. I expect for the price to have every course at least ok and was disappointed. The rose with the check was a nice touch."

  • "We went for the Valentine's meal- this was a prix fix dinner- 5 course with wine. We were a bit rushed by the wait staff and the service not as attentive as I imagine it is normally- probablyy because they were trying to get so many folks in and out. But the staff was very friendly and food presentation very well done. The food was good; we appreciated the smaller portions so that we could enjoy all 5 courses- but since they were trying to serve so many so quickly, not as good as I would expect on a normal night. All said, I'd recommend it and would go again."

  • "We had a wonderful time. Almost secluded, this place has the feel of a hidden treasure of a restaurant that locals don't want everyone to find out about. Bartenders were awesome. Servers and host/hostesses were everything you'd hope for. I highly recommend this place we will definitely be coming back."

  • "Overall a very positive experience. We've been to Evo multiple times and have always enjoyed it. Food is very good with a wide variety of choices on the menu and the service is great. We shared several items. Beet salad was a bit boring and nothing to rave about; mussels were excellent; tuna carpacio was also excellent; grilled lamb chops were great but a little fatty. Nice wine list. Dessert (creme brulee) was ok but custard could have used more of something (vanilla?). Overall, EB is a keeper for neighborhood restaurants, especially if you're staying in McLean, where good choices are limited."

  • "Our visit to Evo Bistro in Mclean had me pleasantly surprised on how good the service was, the excellent food and fantastic dessert. It was a little hard to find and trhe parking area is small but plenty of seating even on Saturday night. The soup was warm, the bread was very good and the entree came with just right amount of vegetables and potatoes. The Risotto was very good-my wife had it and I had the the tenderloin. Both cooked to perfection. Dessert was also very good. I would highly reccommend this place:)"

  • "We always enjoy Evo Bistro. While it would be fantastic if the menu changed up a little, the small plates are so good - well, it's tough to complain. Vey sad to see the demise of the pour your glass wine bar...but there remains a nice selection of wines by the glass on the menu. the noise level during prime evening times can be a consideration...."

  • "We brought our college-age daughter and one of her friends. It was a delicious meal, with an attentive waiter. The next morning, our daughter said she was still thinking about that meal -- how good it was. Perfect for the evening, very comfortable."

  • "We've been to Evo Bistro many times and enjoy the food, service and the knowledgeable bartenders. The problem always is the very poor acoustics. Even at a table at the far end of the main room, the conversation from the farthest away table drowned our our ability to talk. And the main room wasn't even full. In the past when the restaurant is full it was a very poor experience. The food, service is so good and so much fun though that we keep coming back, hoping that Lucy will not pull the football away again from Charlie Brown."

  • "Arrived to the restaurant at 1 pm, wasn't sure if it was open. Lighting inside and out did not display that they were open. Greeted by Tay a nice young gentleman. There were no other customers in the restaurant, so we were able to choose any table we wanted. Lunch menu was wonderful. Service was great."

  • "Great Staff- really nice people all around BUT This is really a watering hole for the older crowd. LOUD, very loud inside. Food is mediocre ( the Paella doesn't have a hint of saffron) the onion soup was bland- but they serve wines by the glass that are high end and cost as much as the entrée's. some work on the food and this place could be great"

  • "I'm so glad to have found this neighborhood gem for Restaurant Week! Love the food and the bistro style setting. Everything from appetizers, main course and desserts were delectable! The service was also amazing with the staff greeting you pun arrival and never missing a beat when they deliver the food. Love this place and will certainly come back."

  • "We went during the Restaurant Week - Bo (server) was very friendly, knows the menu and wine list and helpful in making suggestions or options. We shared chilean sea bass - nicely done and lomo saltado for our entree choice. The Lomo was very salty. The moules and tuna tartar were great! Our first choice of wine is no longer available but we still got a good bottle of wine for the half off deal!"

  • "Great neighborhood gem. Have been many times prior and decided to bring a friend. Food was truly excellent and Shannon was an exceptional waitress. Only complaint is our main dish came moments after our appetizers which was understandable. It was held in the kitchen and my guests dish came out but mine must have gotten lost in the shuffle until I asked a gentleman about it. Either way will certainly return again."

  • "My boyfriend & I decided to check out Evo Bistro for Restaurant Week. The food was great - the Lamb Sliders & the Fried Portobello were outstanding! Unfortunately, the service was severely lacking. We probably sat at the table for 15-20 mins before anyone took a drink order & our bread didn't come to our table, after repeated inquiry from us, until we were half way through our entrées - they told us it took time to warm the bread in the oven, but when it came to us it was stone cold. They did explain that they were short staffed that night. Although this may be true, I do believe it is the responsibility of the restaurant to properly manage this & the customer shouldn't be effected by it. That being said I would give this place another try."

  • "We thought we were special when they put us in the "private room" for our birthday celebration. Little did we know that we would be forgotten for long stretches of time. Put a real damper on our celebration. Food was ok, but not worth the wait. It was restaurant week; you'd have thought they'd have more than 2 waitresses on staff for that day."

  • "My mother and I were looking for a restaurant in McLean and found Evo Bistro. We truly enjoyed it. The food was great, you can do small or large plates. I had the risotto and my mother had the calamari. Both were very good. Service was terrific. We'll be back."

  • "My wife and I have always loved Evo Bistro, and have dined there many times. Two years ago we had dinner there on New Year's Eve and were thrilled with the meal and the wine pairings. This year, however, was not as good. Usually we find the meals are bold, daring and different, but this year we were very disappointed. Everything seemed bland in comparison to previous visits. The presentation too, was not up to par. Evo Bistro has always been pricey, and typically a meal is more than worth the money, but we felt we did not get our money's worth this year. Frankly, I'm not sure we'll go back."

  • "We're long time customers of Evo and decided to give their NYE dinner a try. We went with the 5-course fixed price menu, along with five wine pairings, for $120 each. The food was incredible and the wine pairings were well chosen and high quality wines off of their regular wine menu (in other words, no cheap substitutions). The Stags Leap Chardonnay was probably our favorite, but we also had a sauvignon blanc, a pinot noir, a malbec, and proseco with dessert. The service was impeccable. Our primary server was Katie, who was assisted by Quan, but really, the entire staff worked as a smooth machine to provide 5-star quality service. It really made the whole experience memorable. We'll definitely be back for regular & special occasions."

  • "We enjoyed our New Year's EVen dinner at Evo Bistro. The food was excellent and just the right amount of food, given the five-course Prix Fixe meal. We loved the quiet atmosphere - conducive for a relaxed evening of fine wine, excellent food and great conversation with our friends. We enjoy a low-key New Year's Eve and this was the perfect setting."

  • "It was a Sunday night. I wish I could do a full report on the food, but most of what we wanted to order was out of stock (pork ribs, scallops, 3 or 4 other dishes). The lomo saltado was acceptable (according to a friend who had just gotten back from Peru), but the salmon was a bit bland. (Or is that always the case for salmon?)"

  • "I love Evo Bistro at lunch, when it's an oasis of calm--and reliably good food--in downtown McLean. I took an out-of-town friend there for the first time and left disappointed but ready to give it another try. Salads are usually a great choice here: I'm addicted to the beet salad with goat cheese. My companion tried the Greek salad, and the lettuce was wilted, making the dish flabby. (She also bemoaned the absence of cucumber.) The roasted vegetables in my wrap tasted acidic--probably due to the marinade used before roasting--and they soaked through the wrap immediately, making it hard to pick up. Zucchini fries were too heavily breaded. Prices are reasonable, and I'll be back--with high hopes--to sample more of the tapas!"

  • "We first came during restaurant week. We had no idea that this great little place with there. It was great. So, for a birthday lunch, I requested the wine room, a cute little glass room in the main room. It was perfect. Plus bottles of wine are 1/2 price at lunch on Fridays! What a deal.... This place is a hidden gem."
