  • "I had not been to Everest in more than 15 years and was quite disappointed. Compared to other restaurants of comparable standing, the food seemed very dated and, in a couple of instances, courses lacked flavor and were of an odd consistency. I didn't get the sense that the (limited) menu selections were particularly seasonal or contained ingredients that were local or special. It was as if the menu offered was unchanged from the one 15 years ago. The service was so-so, being generally efficient (although, after what seemed to be a long wait, we had to ask to our order to be taken), but robotic."

  • "We had the spring tasting menu. Overall quality of meal and service was superior. The wine steward led us to very good choices. On this night we did have a problem. The duck was over cooked. We returned it and the duck came back perfectly cooked. This is the first time we had a problem at Everest. I am surprised the kitchen did not notice the problem before serving. The problem was visible to any cook, my tasting just confirmed it. Yes we will return. I assume this was an unusual over site."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about the meal we had at Everest. We went there for dinner during a romantic dinner in Chicago. The food was stellar, the service was impeccable, the view was beautiful. While the meal was expensive - it felt like we got a lot for it. The sommelier set up pairing for our meals and each one was spot on. I also appreciated that they offered half glasses for the pairings since four glasses of wine is a lot for a light-weight drinker like me. The menu was adventurous but did not feel overwhelming or heavy. The one piece of advice I would give is trust the menu and go for it. Some items that did not sound appealing on the menu (chocolate milk soup? nettle foam?) were the highlights of the meal."

  • "On our recent visit to Chicago we ate at two of the city's best; Alinea (3 Stars) and Everest (1 Star). For those of you who know the Alinea it is an experience that should be savored at least once, The Everest is a restaurant that I could and will visit again and recommend to to friends. I have a handful of favorite restaurants around the world and I feel this is destine to become one. From the view on the fortieth floor, the art, the food, wine list and service, everything is well thought out and blends perfectly."

  • "We had a reservation at 9:45, San Valentin Day. Table was not available, 45 min waiting in a room with about other 28 (!!!!) guests waiting for their reserved table. No bar, few chairs. When the table was ready, with my great surprise and frustration, all what they could offer is a menu. Frankly, we should have been informed about this. Ordered a Mersault that came after the second course, warm! The food was decent at most! All together, I would expect this from any other but not a one star Michelin restaurant. Would never ever suggest this restaurant to anybody."

  • "Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food or ambiance since we never got seated. We had reservations on valentines day at 9:30. They made me leave a credit card number and was told I would be charge if I didn't show up. So, I arrive at 9:15 and was taken to a waiting room with a very nice view of Chicago. We sat there and waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes. They didn't even offer a complimentary glass of wine or champagne, or even some appetizers. For a place that is so "fancy" and expensive, I thought the service was terrible. Finally, at 10:30, we advised the hostess we would be leaving. Not even at that point did they mention we would be getting seated next. This may have been a 1 time thing, but I was very disappointed with the service."

  • "My wife and I dined for Valentine's day, what an experience. We had a 9 course set which was just packed with tons of flavor and great cooking. From the foam bacon to the warm poached lobster salad to the warm chocolate dessert there was no misses and everything was a home run. The service is five star. The wine list features selections by the glass from Alsace region which compliment each course. Just Wow."

  • "I booked this restaurant for a special Valentines evening. I knew that it was expensive. They called to confirm and to explain that the menu was chefs choice that evening which I appreciated. The view was fantastic and the service attentive without being annoying. My only negative was the table we had was in a smaller room and not in the elegant dining room. Overall, a great place for a special meal."

Had to take three separate elevators to get to the restaurant and had to check in with a rude security guard between the first and second elevators. Restaurant itself looks like a 1980s hotel - a dated and a bit dingy. Presentation of the food was elegant. Food was good but not spectacular."

  • "We had not been to Everest in a while. The whole experience is top notch. From ther entry to the building and restaurant until the last chocolate, service is top drawer. Our waiter welcomed us and asked about a drink to start which appeared quickly. we were nto rushed, but took our time considering the choices. The food arrived in measured order, not too quickly to suggest moving us out or too long indicating kitchen problems. We enjoyed every course. The amuse started the adventure with 4 mouth watering treats.The smoked salmon was ideal and the beet dressed salad refreshing. The Dover Sole was outstanding, fresh and flavorful. Dessert was gelato and sorbet followed by an array of sweets. The wine we selected was perfect for the meal."

Spent $500 for two and it was worth every penny. Highly recommended at best service in my life, hands down. My girlfriend and I could hear everyone's conversation in each direction. Makes the availability more exclusive with fewer tables being farther away, adds privacy which is very important to many individuals, especially those who live lavish lifestyles. Also when an individual goes to the rest room, cover the plate with a metal cover, that's a huge luxury additive."

  • "Overall experience was good. Best dishes were the pesto risotto and the lobster with hot butter sauce. Each were extremely flavorful and well developed. The four different main courses our group had were nothing too exciting. Skip the hare as my friend who likes game did not care for it. Grapefruit palate cleanser between courses is very nice with tapioca pearls. Make sure you understand the menu options before the wait staff leaves as it can be quite confusing and difficult to interpret on your own. Request a table at the window or on the lower level."

We'll be back for the more economical "pre-theatre menu" but this time we did the whole degustation; we started with champagne, then split one wine pairing (plus one additional glass suggested by the wonderful sommelier), which was more than enough for two, especially as the "wine pairing" ended with a heavenly rum to accompany dessert. Highly recommended."

Service: Not sure about some of the reviews I read about it being "robotic" or snooty because I did not see that at all. The staff were courteous, personable and knowledgeable. Food: Frankly, given the prices it was a disappointment. There were some highlights (foie gras, venison) and low lights (hare, lobster potato confit, sea bass). My dessert was fantastic. Wine: They have a terrific wine list that is a bit over-priced. Had the tasting menu w/wine pairing. Whites were well matched to the dishes. The reds were a major disappointment, did not go with the food nor enjoyable by themselves."

If you dine here, please be sure to share small morsels with your table-mates. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Chicago and while not inexpensive, certainly worth the price if you enjoy fantastic food carefully prepared and presented."
