Evening Star CafeDel Rey GemEvening Star is a longtime favorite. The dining room is small and inviting; the booths lining the walls are terrific. The food is innovative and well-prepared; the service could not be more friendly and efficient. It reminds me of a warm, welcoming, small neighborhood restaurant in my native Minneapoilis: a great compliment!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, everything wasAs always, everything was perfect. I can't wait to go back!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGet a booth!Very good food and excellent service. The service was on par with that of much more expensive restaurants. Very, very noisy and small place. Definitely get a booth to shield yourself from some of the noise and hubbub and to give yourself a reasonable amount of personal space. The tables down the middle of the restaurant along a single banquette are way too close together to be enjoyable. Portions are large so skip the appetizers (small plates) or anticipate taking home a doggie bag. Had the soft shell crab. Wonderful, but one crab (not two) would have been plenty. Will certainly go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBusy and vibrantGreat spot in Del Ray for foodies with a charming and welcoming staff5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMEvening Star CafeVery impressed with our waitress. After we ordered our entrees, she asked if anyone had food allergies. This is the first time a waiter/waitress asked. Very impressed. I had the buttermilk fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens. Excellent. Such and tasty. Hubby had the halibut. He said very good but was still hungry afterwards. Maybe the portion was too small. George also had the buttermilk fried chicken. We were celebrating George's birthday so the waitress brought his dessert with a candle.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place is better everyThis place is better every time I go. We wanted to see Alexandria and we found this hidden gem in Del Rey. Wonderful experience. Great food. Relaxed atmosphere for outdoor dining. Highly recommend!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNew chef, thank goodness!!Were were nervous about tryin Evening Star again after our last visit on Valantine's Day 2012. Our dinner was simply awful. We did hear that there was a new chef and thank goodness for that. We all enjoyed our dinners, fish and tenderloin, and the fried brie was yummy-especially the sauce. It was not the most complicated dinner, but it was done well and we will be back. It's nice to have this place back on our dinner list in Delray.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMdeliciousGreat food! The best fried chicken I've ever had (I don't usually order fried chicken at restaurants, but since their specialty is southern food I figured it would be good).4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGosh, this place is special.Gosh, this place is special. I had a cote de rhone and malbec that were amazing. The short ribs were the best I'd ever had. And I'm going back just for the apple crisp with whiskey ice cream dessert for two. And the service really tops it off. My server girls just dripped with genuine pleasantness.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable experience.Very enjoyable experience. Might consider adding new entree items. Be creative with classic dishes--taking them up a notch.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded expectations! An excellent choice for a Saturday evening dinner for a couple. Well run restaurant from friendly greeting to seating and through the meal service. Had scallop appetizer, iceberg salad and tenderloin. All very well prepared and served. Good wine choices to complement the meal. Ordered the apple cobbler (house specialty) for dessert. Good choice though the single portion really feeds four. All in all- an excellent value for money and time spent. Will come back. It's clear the management and staff have done a fine job with their menus and quality service at Evening Star. Well done!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceThe food was amazing - from appetizers to salads to entrees! My husband had fresh baby carrots that were grown on the roof. Our waiter spent time with the long list of beers, trying to find the right one for me. The bartender made a suggestion that ended up being perfect! What a great experience!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service was veryFood and service was very good and attentive. Their wine list is Planet Wine next door, and the same price as in the wine store. How can you go wrong!!!!! Can be a bit noisy when they have a full house.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant is simplyThis restaurant is simply excellent.
