Europa - RichmondSurprising little gem!On a recent vacation stopping in Richmond for the evening, my husband and I stumbled upon a delightful tapas restaurant. We loved the small plates of bacon wrapped dates, butternut squash risotto and chorizo filled chile peppers. . . topped off with a carafe of sangria and tres leches cake! Sundays are half off tapas so we were able to have a very filling meal for 2 for just $40 including the tip! The tapas are generous portions for "small" plates so 4 were more than enough for the two of us and we also had fantastic cocktails. Will definitely be returning soon!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting place - great serviceThis was our second visit to Europa and we really enjoyed it - our server, Wes was full of energy, full of suggestions and an all around fantastic server. Food is a mixed bag - cocktails, especially the "refreshers" were excellent. The cheese plate looked good but except for the hummus had no taste - meat tasted just like it had been frozen and then thawed although I can't imagine that. Crab cakes were tasty as were the salmon cakes although there was lots of filler with the crab. The lamb risotta was actualy a bowl of crunchy rice and soup - - with a big hunk of over cooked lamb on top of it. Not very good at all. The best food item we had was the mango sorbet - absolutely delicious. Sundays are half-price small plates so you can't go wrong. The crispy brussell sprouts, fried green tomoatoes, and garlic shrimp were outstanding. The fried calamari was very good. Only the braised lamb risotto got an OK. We love this place for a Sunday night when we don't feel like making dinner. Had to wait despite a reservation. The host touched based often and offered complimentary beverages while we waited. We received good service after we were seated despite the crowd. They get positive points for bringing out the kids food first. But some adults received food when others were finished eating theirs. They added a 20% gratuity since we were a big group. We were immediately seated, the service was fast and friendly and our waitress was very knowledgeable! We received our food super fast and it was by far some of the best food I've ever had. The tapas were big (for a tapa size) so two completely filled me up. The sangria was also on point (coming from someone who lived in Spain). Definitely recommend as a hot spot in Richmond. I'd made dinner reservations, so we were escorded past the line of people waiting to get in. We were treated extremely well, our waitress was awesome (and very cute!), and the food was great.
