All four us us loved our food and wine
Didier, our waiter, was knowledgable and friendly; his accent didn't hurt.
He helped us navigate the menu
and tell us where to go in an upcoming trip to Paris & Monte Carlo
I look forward to going back5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful eveningThis was our second time at Etoile and we were celebrating our anniversary with our 11 year old twins. We are not terribly sophisticated about fine French food, but our waiter, Maurizio, very patiently explained the menu items and made wonderful recommendations for wine. The food was fantastic, from the hors d'oeuvres (we had escargot, ravioli and foie gras) to the entrees (sole, tournedoes and duck) and through the dessert (dark chocolate pastilla). We also had a lovely chat with the owner's wife after dinner. The entire experience was lovely.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVery French, Very FreshNew to me, Etoile is a nice little gem in Uptown Park. Not too fussy, but wonderful, fresh food. Even the butter is French! Expectedly pricey for lunch but very worthy.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSeatingAlways stick me in the back. I have never dined in their "A" section5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMStar attractionVery nice restaurant in upscale neighborhood . Parking at lunch time is a problem. Very good staff. Lunch menu limited. Can't wait for my next dinner there.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLLEverything about our experience was excellent. Ambience, food & service were perfect! We will be back.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSo So.The seating hostess tried to seat us next to a huge loud party at 5:30 pm- when the restaurant was empty. We asked for a table a little further away so we could hear each other, and this seemed to BLOW HER MIND. She didn't think they had another table available- in an empty restaurant. She went to great lengths to explain that the tables are reserved by number. Apparently changing our table number in the system was beyond her capabilities.
The food was OK. I would not go here again, as it was $150 for 2 for dinner, and the food was only OK. Our waiter was awesome, funny & engaging. The restaurant IS beautiful, but the food/flavor was so so, and I don't think it was worth the high $$.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Brunch with Etoile CuisineFirst Brunch with Etoile Cuisine and Bar, a great experience, really good food and very good taste, with a perfect service which position this little gem as a first priority choice for a good lunch or dinner(I went already there 2 times for lunch and dinner)in Houston3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Etoile Lives Up to Its RevewsI thought the menu choices and the food were outstanding. Houston definitely needed another excellent French restaurant. I thought the noise level in the main room was too high, but fotunately we were seated in the rear room where we could carry on a conversation. Also, the decor there was quite nice. Frankly, I expected a real coat and tie crowd and was disappointed to see other guys in shirtsleeves. Is there no coat and tie restaurant left? I also expected French waiters in more formal attire. However our waiter was very friendly and helpful, so I have no complaints. Getting back to the food, I had the Canard a l'Orange which truly unforgettable. The duck was very tender, not overdone and accompanied a beautiful light sauce.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastique. I believe thatFantastique.
I believe that I have been visiting you almost every week in the last month and I was never disappointed.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMReliable and outstanding place,Reliable and outstanding place, some extra daily specials might help.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a new restaurant inThis is a new restaurant in town. If you want to taste the traditional French cooking go there.
The French chief proposes the classical "foie gras" as appetizer, follows by "cassoulet" or "coq au vin".
The "Tarte au pommes chaudes" as dessert is a blessing.
The service is friendly and efficient without being havy.
I would have enjoined more intimacies to fully appreciate this moment.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNone of the great reviewsNone of the great reviews we had read overstated the food at L'Etoile. Awesome!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe waitstaff was knowledgeableThe waitstaff was knowledgeable and the food was wonderful. The veal we had was cooked perfectly. The restaurant has a good choice of wines by the glass. While we live near Austin, we have season tickets to the Houston Ballet, so we'll be back to Etoile.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for lunch or dinnerThe sole meunière and mussels are two great dishes. Pleasant and upscale casual.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMJust delicious. You have toJust delicious. You have to take the mushroom ravioli.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb french fareDuck a la orange and steak were both well prepared and interesting. Poached pear tart needed some additional pears but was wonderfully flakey. Rolls were fabulously crusty with soft insides. Nice wine list. Cream fraiche with berries was an exceptional finish. Top notch service without being pretentious.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service, and foodOutstanding service, and food was excellent. Duck Confit slightly dry, but still delicious.
Noise level a little too high for easy table conversation.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWas lovely as usual - theWas lovely as usual - the sole was not quite as good as it has been - a bit too oily and too much sauce. Seemed fish and potatoes were slightly overlooked.2/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWill definitely returnWent for lunch with daughter. Great experience - very good food and very pretty place - wil definitely go back with husband for dinner. We had beet salad, lemon sole, coq au vin, cheesecake dessert of the day and French wine!!2/27/2013 12:00:00 AMEtoile is a good "ladies whoEtoile is a good "ladies who lunch" spot, but parking is a nightmare in Uptown Park during the lunch hour.2/1/2013 12:00:00 AMC'est magnifique!Put the two-top tables about a foot further apart, and you've got a solid five-star rating.
The food, based on our first visit, was exceptional. We started with lobster bisque and a calamari stew Basquaise, both of which were extremely flavorful and presented beautifully. My wife chose the sole, which she raved about, and I picked the (Atlantic)salmon, which was one of the best I've ever had--crispy, deliciously fatty, and both dishes served with lots of wonderful vegetables.
Desserts were also excellent, from the panna cotta topped with apricot preserves (a little sweet for my taste, but my wife loved it), to the pistachio ice cream with chocolate sauce served in mini buns.
Our server, Didi, was extremely helpful and friendly.12/1/2012 12:00:00 AM
