A word from Etoile Cuisine Et Bar
The owners of Étoile Cuisine et Bar, Chef Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui, have created an inviting, warm European environment where both traditional and seasonal French food are front and center. "We want to dispel the notion that French food is heavy and pretentious," says the team, recently transplanted to Houston from San Diego, where they owned the famed Cavaillon Restaurant. Everything about Étoile Cuisine et Bar, from the inviting outside facade to the intriguing interior design to the high quality service, is meant to convey a feeling of truly being in France. With Chef Philippe's take on a seasonal menu using a French technique, it's a place where fine food lovers come together, not on a special occasion, but to enjoy every day.

Good service, although keep an eye on waiter....he tends to push expensive wines and drinks. Overall a great place for a really excellent outing with friends. Not cheap by any means."

They served french fries with it and I couldn't believe it. I thought I was in a 2 star instead of a 5 star restaurant. My apple tart was over cooked and tuff. It will be awhile before I go back, if I do at all. it was my favoriate restaurant."

Would recommend for the food. However, the service was a bit slow. The restaurant was not busy, but we had to ask to order coffee, drinks, etc."

Food was outstanding and ambience was very French. Loved the long bench with multiple close tables. We had an excellent conversation with the couple next to us. There are some very pricey wines but you can find something worthy and reasonably priced. This was a great find."

  • "My only complaint with this place was the front desk. They were off their mark on the Saturday night we came for dinner. The hostess didn't greet us when we came in and was obviously distracted trying to figure out her seating schedule. We waited half an hour past our reservation time and usually in fine restaurants we would've been offered a drink or something to make up for this delay but here they just sheepishly apologized. My other issue could be a problem with Open Table or the hostess. I had submitted a request via my Open Table reservation to do some sort of acknowledgment for my dinner guest's birthday but when the dessert came out, there was nothing special about it. The cassoulet also could've been better but still a good meal."

  • "I've tried this beautiful restaurant twice now and each time my waiter was not attentive and extremely slow. The hostess attempted to argue with me from the very onset when we arrived regarding where we wanted to sit and we finally had to ask her if we were allowed to change our table or not to avoid her from arguing with us. It's quite unfortunate that the service is so bad from the wait staff, however the servers who refill your water glasses are superb. I like the quality of food at this restaurant but I am reluctant to recommend this restaurant due to the tardiness in the waiters attending to our table twice now. I think this restaurant needs a new manager."

  • "My boyfriend and I arrived here last Friday evening 30 minutes late, but were seated immediately at a romantic table in the corner by the window. Our server was attentive and knowledgable. We ordered the foie gras and beer tartare for appetizer and had the Chilean sea bass and braised short ribs for dinner. Everything was delicious and tasted so fresh! The ambience was great and very quiet, but it was very late in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here and will definitely return. Highly recommended if you're looking for amazing French cuisine."

I never struggled to hear anyone yet the place was still clearly happening. The wine list was excellent. I am not a French food connoisseur so take the following with a grain of salt. I had the Magret de Canard a l'Orientale. I felt that the roast duck was too soft and undercooked. I had originally asked for medium well but both my date and the server recommended medium. Wish I would have gone with medium. I was hoping for roast duck with a crispy skin and this was clearly not it. It was not that flavorful either. However, I think this dish would have been liked by someone who really likes French food."

The place was full when we went. It felt cheerful and animated but not loud. Wine list is rich and varied and competent advice readily available. I'll certainly go back! These mushroom ravioli, the scallops with lentils, the very light apple tart, the cheese plate, the lemon tart, all merit another visit, and make me want to explore the rest of the menu!"

  • "excellent food. excellent service. recommend unreservedly and will definitely return. no rushing through the meal. as in paris, the table was ours for the evening. we were there for a birthday and were treated very well. food was loved across the board - foie gras, soup, magret de canard - all excellent. regarding ambience, we were seated in the back of the restaurant near the kitchen. though at first not quite as desirable as the front room, it actually was better in many ways. much less crowded so room to relax and not nearly as loud so much more conducive to conversation. one of the best in houston."

  • "Have been back and found each visit better than the last. I usually set myself up for disappointment when I find a great place. Etoille has great service. I found the waiters to be passionate about the food, and very well informed on the wines. Tried the Cassoulet the first time and it was excellent. Very Well done. Tried the coquilles St. Jacque the second visit. Excellent. it was served on some lentils that were fantastic. For desert have gone with the tarts (mayer lemon and apple). Another I went for the cheese plat, but couldn't resist something else as well. Give this one a TRY!"
