A word from Ethos - Gallery
Ethos—it is that which guides, a character, a moral. At Ethos, we very much adhere to the root of this word. Our menu guides you to the sun-drenched islands of Greece, as we embrace the rich character of its traditional dishes. We adhere to a strict moral code using only the highest quality extra virgin olive oil from Crete and fresh fish flown in daily from the Mediterranean.
Inside the modern ambiance there are threads of the traditional Greek eateries woven with the stylish island chic of Mykonos. We invite you to celebrate our centuries-old recipes, like fava from Santorini, all telling a new story of modern Greek cuisine with traditional ingredients taking inventive turns.
Prepared traditionally, re-imagined contemporary. our Ethos is an adherence to the purity of the sea and the sun, the freshness of our ingredients and the spirit of our beautiful culture.
“Ya mas” as we say in Greece, or “To Our Health”.

  • "This is getting to be one of my go to spots. The food is always great, I can usually get a table quickly and its a great small town vibe in the city. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "The host did not honor our reservation and kept us waiting for over 30 minutes, so we left and I didn't actually get to eat dinner. This is the second time this has happened to me at this restaurant, and the first time I had to wait 45 minutes for the table I reserved. Food was good, but they need help learning to manage their crowd and overflow. Really unprofessional host - if it's going to be an hour wait, just say so. Don't tell every guest 10-15 minutes and then keep them waiting for triple or quadruple the time."

  • "Ethos provided an excellent dinner experience. Food was delicious, beautifully and authentically prepared. Wonderful flavors. On a very crowded Friday night the service was attentive and gracious. Another dinner absentmindedly putting on her coat swept a glass of red wine across our table spilling it into a plate of food and over the table. The wait staff was there in seconds, attending to our table, removing the glass and the plate of half eaten lamb chops swimming in the red wine and sopping up the wine. Not only did they replace the glass of wine but also provided another lamb chop entree and then complimented us with a sampling of desserts. I will definitely return. Please share this with Ethos-Gallery"

  • "I had not experienced a birthday celebration here before and I must say it was a bit of a surprise. The turned off the lights, blasted the Hawaii Five-0 theme! This happened at least four times in the evening. And once it was over they took a while to turn the music back down, so for much of the evening I was straining to hear ANY part of the conversations we were trying to have. But as always the food was delicious! We had a VERY enthusiastic waiter who seemed to know what he was talking about, and really liked fish... Fun experience, but not great if you are trying to catchup with someone."

  • "This place is the best! The food is always, always fantastic so of course the restaurant is always, always busy so it's essential to make a reservation in the evening. Interesting clientele with the United Nations close by - there are locals that go there every night for dinner. Lovely bartenders and all the staff are very friendly. A great place."

  • "While visiting my daughter we went to Ethos because it is so close to her apartment. We went on a Tuesday night and returned on Thursday night when my son came to visit. Everything was amazingly fresh and delicious. The wait staff was friendly, accommodating, helpful; everything you want to make a great meal even better. I can't wait to go back with my husband next time we are in NY."

  • "Always a great dining experience at Ethos. The wait staff is consistently friendly and helpful. My group of friends always enjoy everything. However, it was quite a shock to see our high bill. The pre-mixed, raspberry-infused margarita was delicious and everyone had 2 glasses. We were quite surprised that it cost $16 each. We certainly did not appreciate the waiter promoting this item constantly on hindsight. In any case, we recommend this restaurant for its fine food which is always fresh and well seasoned."

  • "I absolutely love it here in terms of the food. Every time we go, the host tells us it will be a 10 minute wait, and even with our reservation, it usually ends up being 20-25 minutes. Complaining to the host will usually get us a free drink or two from the bar while we wait. However, I recently made a reservation for 2 at 8:45 on a Saturday. We get to the restaurant at 8:45 and none of the 8:00 reservations had even been seated at that point. The host obviously told us "10 minutes" after every ten minutes went by, and we stupidly waited until 9:55 to be seated. The food was excellent, so while we were mad that we waited that long, we enjoyed our meal. Just know going in that they never turn down a reservation, so you will wait."

  • "We had a wonderful time... Food, drinks and service all great. We had a 730 reservation, they were running a bit behind... Charming host apologized and gave my friend and Me 2 glasses of champagne - very smart....we did not mind waiting!!! We will definitely return!!!"

  • "Ethos at its prior location in Murray Hill was my favorite Greek restaurant anywhere, with a nice romantic ambience and fantastic seafood. However, in the 5yr since my last visit in 2009 they not only moved to a less desirable location at 51st & 1st Ave (long walk from nearest subway stop), but have become more of a tourist destination, with a downgrade in quality of the food. The Sunday night we visited there was a large group of 20-30 tourists wearing blue badges, and nowhere to even stand inside the door. The noise was deafening. As far as the food goes, their bronzini was rather tasteless with "lots of bones" for the "boned" fish they advertised on the menu. They no longer even light the saganaki at the table-due to fire concerns!!"

  • "We have been to this Greek place three times now and it has been a great experience each time. The place is bustling and it can take some time to get seated, but the wait in the bar area is wonderful to soak up the energetic and positive atmosphere. The food is all very fresh, and very tasty, I'd always recommend a meal with fish as their fish is fresh and wonderful. The service from the staff is courtious and genuine. Enjoy a great evening here."

  • "Could have been an excellent evening however, since we were not regulars we had to keep asking about our table. Food was excellent, bar tenders excellent yet forty-five minutes after our scheduled reservation we had to remind the captain that we were still waiting for our table, even though several table were available. He was much more attentive to regulars and others listed as VIP in computer (we were not)."

  • "Great place, some tables way too crowded, some not. fish choices are various, fresh fish, cooked right, though you can get same service same food for a lot less... kind of hard to get to, and not too fitting for couple dining. not much privacy as far as conversation goes.. Ok overall. SErvice and food were very good, crowdiness closeness to your neighboring table and waiting for 10 min to be seated when you are on time for your reservation, not so much."

  • "The menu focuses on dishes using fresh ingredients simply prepared that brings out the flavor. In particular, the fish here is excellent and worth by itself a visit. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The restaurant can be a little noisy at busy times but the energy is infectious."

  • "Definitely worth a try. Food is excellent. On a really busy night it can be loud, so not hearing aid friendly. Our server got a bit impatient because we were in no big hurry to order. They trade out plates and silver keeping everything fresh and clean."

  • "Loved the grilled octopus, the bronzini. fish was cooked to perfection. The lemon potatoes melted in my mouth and the spanokoriso was delicious. The meal was topped with a fabulous piece of galaktobouriko and baklava. I highly recommend Ethos 51st street gallery."

  • "The Ambiance, food and beverage cocktails was just perfect and beyond our expectations ! Ethos Gallery was very accommodated even though it was packed the manager told us that he will try to get us a table as fast as he can because we were very hungry, He bought us a round of drinks at the bar and an amazing appetizer called " Spanakopita" ( Greek Spinach pies) and he kept his word and he gave us a table in 10 minutes ! Thank you Stamatis, we will return next week again as we loved the place and service !"

  • "Food is superb at ethos Gallery, we start with the Avgolemono soup following by Octopus and Seftalies, for main course we shared a fish from Greece called " Fagri" ( white snapper) OMG ! Just perfect ! We also had an amazing wine from Santorini Island called Assyrtiko.. it was a great recommendation from The General Manager ( Stamatis ) . The service it was exceptional and very warm. I cant wait to return back !"

  • "We checked in 5 min early. The host waived us off to the far end of the bar, telling us it would be about 10 minutes. There was barely any room there but we squeezed into a small spot. About 15 people filed in after we did. We waited 25 minutes while the host proceeded to seat everyone who came in after us. At that point, I went up & asked why we hadn't been seated. My question was ignored but we were seated immediately, as was the couple next to us at the bar who had been there 10 minutes before us. Our waitress was great but the food, while good, was nothing to rave about. Had to try very hard to find even a hint of lemon in the avgolemono soup. Boyfriend had the Seafood Orzo which was good but again, nothing to rave about."

  • "I was dying for Greek food since it isn't the most common dining out option for myself and my fiance. Once I saw Gilt had a deal on their site for Ethos Gallery, I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to go and try it. We ordered two drinks at the bar while we waited for our table and not only were they the most appalling drinks ever made but they cost a whopping $35! The Gilt options weren't bad - I got the stuffed eggplant appetizer and my fiance got the calamari. I had the lamb chop entree and he got the branzino - both were delicious and a decent size. However the waiter jipped us of our bottle of wine and dessert platter that came with our deal. What did I pay $75 for?"

  • "We had an 8:30 reservation and they did not sit us until 9:15. This is the second time that this has occurred at this restaurant with us. It seems as if it is deliberate that they have you drink at the bar for 45 minutes before sitting you. The food is very good however waiting 45 minutes after the reservation time is not something I am sure I will tolerate again as the first time I figured it was a mistake but this time it was clear that this was how they operate."

  • "I foundthat my diing experience there was excellent....the food was wellprepared..the service was excellent...the drinks were full size (price for drinks a bit high) and something that many restaurants dont realize is that the actual furniture seating was very comfortable....although they were fairly crowded there was no rush to get us out....this was really appreciated"

  • "I went here recently with a large group of girls looking for a convenient place in midtown east to catch up. We were pleasantly surprised with the friendly service, the fresh and authentic greek food and the decor. You actually feel like you are sitting in a small restaurant in Santorini, Greece. To top off our meal, the waiter brought over a variety of free desserts to end our perfect meal. I loved my first experience so much, that I came back there this week with a friend and was equally impressed. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great option in the area. The only downside is that the it tends to get a little loud, so I would not recommend this for an intimate date spot."
