EthiopicEthiopian Food At Its Very BestI've eaten Ethiopian food regularly since my Peace Corps time there over 40 years ago. The food at Ethiopic is now the very best Ethiopian food I've ever had. Friends who never liked Ethiopian food before also love Ethiopic. The service, too, just keeps setting new standards for friendly professionalism in a very pleasant, cosy setting that is always packed with other happy diners. Book early!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFav dining experience on H StI had came to expect H Street restaurants to be loud with uncomfortable chairs. Ethiopic was comfortable with a good noise level for talking. The food was great. I had their signature lamb tibs and the meat was served in a stone bowl with a candle lit burner beneath it to keep the food hot. No need to rush. The sauce was delicious and spicy with lots of jalapeno peppers and tomatoes. We paired it with a vegetarian platter and I loved everything on it. They don't have sambusa on the menu, something I expected. The coffee was great, as it should be since Ethiopian coffee is so delicious.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Ethiopian food @ EthiopicFood was excellent, some dishes spicy while others were super spicy - a nice range. The suggestions were spot on from our server, and I would say the service was comfortable, very gracious. Very warm ambiance. Great meal. The locale was fun, lots going on, and lots to watch. Should you want a little privacy (for 2) ask for the tables in the hollows by the windows.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA Mandatory StopMy wife and I visited Ethiopic to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The space itself is outstanding. There is ample space between tables which allows conversations to occur easily. Sevice was excellent. We were served by a TEAM. Additional injera was brought (without our having to ask), and plates removed by young ladies who were not our server. The last time I received that much attention was at a 5-star restaurant. The food was very good. We selected the Vegetarian Sampler II, which consisted of seven dishes. My favorite was Fosolia (caramelized green beans, onions, & carrots mixed with jalapeno peppers). GO, you will not be disappointed!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this restaurant! TheLove this restaurant! The food is so flavorful and exotic!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat intro to Ethiopian foodI brought two nieces (12 and 14) visiting from out of town for their first Ethiopian food experience. The food was terrific as always (the vegetarian sampler served with fish), and the woman who served us could not have been nicer. I continue to love this restaurant!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGluten Free Injera!Though injera was traditionally made with only teff flour, almost all Ethiopian restaurants in the DC area now use a mixture of teff flour and wheat flour in their injera. As a gluten intolerant diner, I often end up eating Ethiopian food with a fork and a side of rice instead of the way it was intended to be eaten. However, if one requires gluten free injera, just call Ethiopic a day in advance to request it, and the restaurant staff will be sure to provide it with your dinner. Very helpful and delicious!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Favorite Restaurant on H street! It is an amazing place to do group dates ,small birthday events, and more!!! It is a great atmosphere !! I absolutely love ETHIOPIC...!! If you haven't tried them out you must!!(:4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEthiopic is one of the betterEthiopic is one of the better Ethiopian restaurants in the DC area. It's a welcome addition to the Capitol Hill neighborhood and an easy walk from the Union Station metro. The food was perfectly flavored and the servers were friendly and engaging.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time having Ethiopian,Our first time having Ethiopian, waiter allowed us to sample the 3 Ethiopian wines offered. Waiter also made recommendations for dinner -- very helpful -- we were very satisfied with her suggestions! Restaurant was clean, food was hot and tasty, would come back again.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Food (& Selection)This is a great spot to dine out and the food (very diverse) is some of the BEST ethiopian food since Fashika's restaurant burned down in Adam's Morgan years ago. I've tried almost all of the local ethiopian places in DC. Ethiopic definitely rate's very high in food, ambiance, and especially customer service categories. I have only one comment to recommend for consideration: Reserved seating (for 2) should be given 1:45 minutes or 2 hours to dine. When people dine out there's lots of conversation and a relaxed atmosphere of ordering. Sometimes 1:30 minutes is not enough.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the food and the vibeLoved the food and the vibe - great place to check out a new cuisine.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA great spot for EthiopianThe food is excellent and the restaurant is spotless. We arrived before our reservation time, but they decided to put the smaller reserved tables together to accommodate a large walk-in group. This was annoying, but we were eventually seated 20-30 min late. One of our waitresses was helpful and pleasant; the other clearly did not want to be working. The food makes up for the so-so service. The larger vegetarian platter is worth the splurge. The lamb entree was tender and flavorful. I definitely recommend this place.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI have never had EthiopianI have never had Ethiopian food before---from that reference point, this was awesome. So much better than I anticipated! Fun date night !3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious with a modern feelI loved my first visit to this flavorful restaurant. The decor is modern and spotless and the waitresses friendly and helpful. When deciding what to order, the server steered us to a lamb dish and said it was the best (Signature Tibs). We also had a vegetarian sampler and the Miser Wot and the ubiquitous Timatim were the winners there. I enjoyed my generous glass of honey wine, but we did not have room for dessert. I was able to walk away with enough leftovers for one additional meal.
Ethiopic is as good or better than other Ethiopian restaurants I've visited and the abiance is far superior. It's a modern interpretation of traditional cuisine.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you like Ethiopian foodIf you like Ethiopian food this is a great place to get it. If you are new to Ethiopian food this is a great place to try it for the first time. Great food and a great wait staff. I highly recommend it.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an amazing dining experienceWe had an amazing dining experience! The food was excellent. We had the 4-item vegetable platter with fried fish and also added a spicy beef entree. Everything was tasty but the fried fish in particular was a knock-out. We will definitely return for lunch or dinner in the future.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
