Diner Reviews
  • "Having driven past this restaurant for 25 years without noticing it, I was very glad Open Table brought it to our attention! The food was delicious, definitely the best Pipian I've ever had. I can't wait to return to try the Mole. We were there for an early dinner, so it was fairly quiet, although a large party (18 people) was arriving as we were finishing."

  • "Estrellita's is delicious! I highly recommend their salsas and enchiladas aztecas! I went with a party of 7 and we all ordered the same thing because we love it so much. Also, you can count on very friendly and attentive service here. Only note of caution: their margaritas are far too salty. Even if you ask for no salt on the rim, there is salt mixed in to the drink itself. Instead of a margarita, order one of their excellent beer options."

  • "Booked on short notice on the basis of the positive reviews and the availability, upon arrival we had some trepidation to the hole-in-wall exterior vibe and the shortage of parking. However, once we found on street parking a block away, we entered the place and found it to be attractive. Settling down, the margeritas and mojitos were excellent. The best was the food. This was superb, gourmet cuisine. The total before alcohol and tax for a party of 4 adults was $100. Will definitely go back, but take fewer cars."

  • "We were having a get together for 17 friends and wanted to go to a casual yet authentic Mexican restaurant. A friend recommended Estrellita as she enjoyed the food and margaritas. Making reservations was easy and the table was set up by the time we arrived. The food servers weren't pushy about ordering and were very friendly and helpful with providing recommendations when asked. And the margaritas were great with a good kick to them! The portions were generous and the food was very good. Our group stayed for about 3 hours! The restaurant was plenty spacious and wasn't loud so it was great for conversing. We also love supporting a neighborhood restaurant. I would definitely go again with my family and with friends!"

  • " Estrellita Mexican Bistro & Cantina is a good choice for tasty food and acceptable service. The salsas & food are usually very spicy, but this changes frequently as there are obviously numerous chefs. Estrellita's is a good choice for a reasonably priced Mexican meal."

  • "We have gone here several times for lunch and are always surprised at how empty the restaurant is at 1:00. The menu offers more adventuresome items than the normal Mexican one (my latest dish included a cooked cactus leaf); the service is fairly prompt and the room is quiet, all things I'm looking for in a lunch hour. I can only guess it's the parking and the awkwardness of getting back on San Antonio Road that discourages others."

  • " Estrellita Mexican Bistro and Cantina is a good choice for reasonably priced and tasty Mexican food. The service was a bit inattentive, but each of the entrees we ordered were enjoyed by family members. We will definitely return to Estrellita's again."

  • "Everything in Estrellita are super fresh and well prepared. Authentic Mexican food. We definitely will go back soon."

  • " Estrellita Mexican Bistro has a varied menu of tasty food with reasonable prices. My party and I enjoyed the chicken burrito, taco salad, enchilada suizas, and enchilada/taco combination as well as the chips, which came with two hot salsas. The hostess seemed to forget our table at times, which was a bit surprising since there were customers at only three tables, however we enjoyed our lunch and will return."

  • "Estrellita is one of many restaurants at this location, and while it is nothing spectacular the food and service are very good with reasonable prices. The two salsas served with chips are the best and hottest flavored spices served, and I highly recommend Estrellita for a very casual lunch or dinner with no expectations other than tasty food and hot salsas.!"

  • "Restaurant is decorated with furniture in vibrant colors, reminiscent of Mexico, and Day of the Death art work on the walls. All the food is prepared from family recipes including the secret one for the mole sauce, my favorite! Prices are very reasonable; drinks and service the best one could ask for. Overall a very satisfying experience."

  • "Love this place. It is a casual Al gem and worth the visit."

  • "Estrellita was surprisingly good for a small Mexican restaurant located amongst a number of other restaurants and shops just off of El Camino Real. The chips and two very spicy salsas were excellent, as were the enchilada suiza and chicken taco/chicken enchilada combination that my party ordered. Once again everything had a hotter flavor than usual and it was very good. The restaurant was not crowded so two waiters and the host were most attentive to our needs. Lunch pricing is most reasonable so we left convinced that Estrellita is a terrific choice for a casual, tasty lunch at an affordable price. We will definitely return."

  • "This restaurant has a special recipe passed down in their family for mole sauce. Excellent!"

  • "I'm amazed that more people don't know about La Estrellita. I guess it's only a matter of time before its mobbed! Excellently prepared dishes that you rarely find outside of Mexico. The rose-flavored mole special was superb, as was the Pipian that's on the regular menu. Very polite and attentive service."

  • "First time here, and we thought the mole poblano was excellent and the service fast and attentive. We look forward to trying other dishes. Restaurant opened a bit late, and we found that the wooden chairs were not very comfortable."

  • "You'll find authentic mexican fare here. There are ample options to choose from, all well prepared with fresh ingredients. It's great for a weeknight dinner, or for takeout if you're in the neighborhood."

  • "The decor at Estrellita was superb! It added a lot to our dining experience! In addition the food was so very good!"

  • "There was a general impression that quality was slipping. A couple of people noted that their food, chile rejenos and burritos, were not warm in the middle."

  • "If you happen to order a pitcher of margaritas and 5 minutes later get asked if you'd like to upgrade, ask for the price difference. $20 for food - $50 for a pitcher of margaritas that were just so-so. Big disappointment. First and last time I'll go there."

  • "If you want the best mole - try here. We had a group of six - and everyone was very pleased with their food. One disappointment was they were out of sopa's - appetizer that we love. Didn't quite understand why since it wasn't very crowded - Service is pretty slow, and could be better."

  • "Superb food, excellent service, reasonable prices and easy free parking: no wonder Estrellita has been a neighbuorhood gem for so many years."

  • "I hadn't noticed this restaurant at the corner of San Antonio & El Camino Real -- found it via OpenTable. Small but nice. Good service. We went in after the LA Art & Wine Festival. Waiter was attentive, service was quick, food was excellent. We will definitely return here."

  • "I had heard good things about Estrellita being a true neighborhood gem. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. Part of the problem was no doubt that we visited on a very hot evening, and the air conditioning was not up to snuff. The fact that we were kept waiting for 20 minutes just to get our drinks did not help either. The food was good, but not anything about which to rave. The specialty drinks were probably the best part of the meal. The service was friendly, but slow and inattentive. The building and interior is definitely suffering from some long deferred maintenance."

  • "The atmosphere is casual, service friendly, food very good. They display some of the dishes near the entrance so you can see what the dishes look like. The menu was varied as was the drink menu. They are also flexible in letting you choose your own combinations. I had the crab enchilada and almond chicken which was boneless and fork tender. The salsas were delicious, 2 kinds green and red. I also ordered the coconut flan, LOVED IT! I'll definitely be going back to try their other dishes, especially the mole which is entirely house made (not from a can)."

  • "We took our family there for a get together both the adults and the kids were very happy with the food, the mole sauce in particular was very well done with delicious subtle flavors as promised and they had no problem handling a gluten-free request. They were very understanding of the kids who were able to play a little around our table as we were there early and they had enough space to do this without disturbing other diners. We did notice that there can be a draft from the AC so make sure you do sit directly under a vent if you are sensitive to such things... Overall we would definitely go again."
