Diner Reviews
  • "Was a little nervous about trying this, all the reviews I could find were from a few years back when it first opened. Wasn't sure if it had started to fall off the radar. Pleasantly surprised by our dinner (4 ppl). Ordered 4 apps, waitress adeptly delivered them to the table at different times as the table was quite small. Service was professional but a bit cold, but that's likely how the typical customer likes their service in this neighbourhood. Mains were given positive reviews by all guests, loved my fishermans stew. Will definitely be back. Dining room was clean and fresh."

  • "My friends and I were looking forward to our meal, but sadly I was a bit disappointed. The ambience was great, by my appetizer of grilled calamari was a bit overdone (chewy) and under seasoned. It was just OK, which is not what I expected from this restaurant. I followed that with the Moussaka, which was luke warm and flavour again was OK. We didn't have our drink order taken for 20 minutes after sitting, and when I asked another server to get our table's server, he came back with the excuse that we were talking and our menus were open. At the end of the night when we were leaving, our server along with the hostess and another server were chatting and then the hostess told the two servers to "shhh" as we walked by. Talking about us?"

  • "I loved the ambiance. The decorations were unique and suggested a Greek island. Our server suggested that I try something that I hadn't had before (lamb in philo) and it was outstanding. They were aware we were going to a show afterwards, and timed the courses perfectly so that we weren't rushed but we were able to leave on time. I would definitely recommend Estiatorio VOLOS to all my friends!"

  • "Members of my Firm regularly eat at this location and we do a fair amount of client entertainment here as well. The menu is limited but everything is very high quality. Staff is excellent and accommodating to individual likes and dislikes. I'll continue to visit this location"

  • "Came here for our 4 year anniversary, we were greeted with congratulations and some sparkling drinks to celebrate. Megan (our waitress) took great care of us and was incredibly attentive, while providing excellent advice on what to order. Highly recommend, Dolmades and Saganaki and if you are a fan of seafood the Fisherman's Stew was delicious (use the bread to soak up the divine broth). Was an excellent spot for our celebration and will be coming back!"

  • "I think the food was well done, but it was a little pricey for what we got. The dessert was very mediocre. I wouldn't necessarily call this Greek food, I think it is fairly Westernized..."

  • "It was my best friend’s birthday lunch. My friend discovered the restaurant during Toronto’s Summerlicious. I ordered Saganaki Cheese and Grilled Moroccan Octopus as our appetizers. We both tried the Greek Beer, Volkan Santorini Blonde. My friend will look for the brand at the LCBO for home consumption. The cheese was flamed at the table (contrary to the lunch menu warning customers “no fire at lunch”, I noticed quite a few tables ordering it) and the Octopus was tender and tasty. My friend had the lamb (they cracked the bone so she could get at the marrow) and I had the chicken. The food was good and plated nicely. We’ll be back for our next special occasion."

  • "Haven't been to Volos for awhile, but unfortunately this experience was not great. Food and ambiance were the same - very good. However, the service was totally off. We were going to a show that evening - which they knew. But they tried to rush us along, in spite of asking not to, as they kept bringing out various courses before we had even finished the last. Seemed like the right hand didn't know what the left had was doing! We did complain about this and got an apology. Hopefully our experience will be better next time otherwise I may consider returning."

  • "Undoubtedly one of the best food experiences I have ever had. Waitstaff are friendly and accommodating and the seafood is perfectly prepared and delicious. Could not recommend highly enough."

  • "The food was very good but the service was good up until I received the bill. The waitress had 2 extra martinis (4 instead of 2) and one extra 25$ scotch which immediately admitted making a mistake. I only want to think that was intentional. Our bill for 5 people was just under 1000$ Now I understand why the waitress was bringing deserts that we didn't t even order… and charged us for all those. And to top it off, when the manager (she is only manager there one day a week) came over to say check in on us, I asked if there were any complementary digestifs. She abnouxiously laughed and answered, "Is that a real question"… The food was great but that ending really ruined my experience at Volos."

  • "No need to go to the Danforth for greek food - Volos is the best greek restaurant in Toronto. Their Saganaki is fantastic - best ever and the Sesame crusted Feta is mouth watering. Everything on the menu of appetizers is fantastic - we made a meal of them. The evening ambiance is candlelit and romantic. Excellent selection of Greek wines too."

  • "I have been here several times and love everything they have to offer. I have had the pleasure of trying something new everytime and never leaving hungry or dissappointed. I am a big fan of the grilled octopus, the salmon is delcious. I have had array of their deserts and am also very impressed. They have fresh bread that is unique, and the service is always top notch. I suggest making a reservation, because they can be full sometimes."

  • "From the minute we were sitted, we felt extremely rushed by our server. He did not smile the whole time we were there. Never once did he come by and see if our meal was ok. He threw the bill on the table and took off. We certainly will not frequent this establishment again."

  • "The prix fixe menu was great. Lots of time to relax and enjoy a delicious meal before the ballet. Staff members were phenomenal in service."

  • "Dinner although tasty was more of a lunch type serving--but $$ as for dinner Wine by the glass extremely limited 2 or 3 Service prompt but with little personality (the BARE minimum in effort) would go again maybe if nothing else was walking distance to after dinner event"

  • "Best Greek food by far in Toronto. The meal would be rated high among best meals ever!"

  • "Volos is the pure definition of how to do it right Great food , good value, and professional Beautiful atmosphere for a date or a business meeting The staff make you feel like family It is often said that a restaurant is only as good as its last meal For Volos that's no problem because the one thing they are is consistently good Too bad its a little far from Montreal, then again perhaps it's another reason to leave Quebec !"

  • "The cheese appetizer served flaming at your table is a feast for the eyes and the palate. Service was cheerful and the lamb dishes very tasty. Great place to go for business or pleasure"

  • "Table for 10. Host on the phone told me that the restaurant is a full house every day. On the contrary the restaurant was half full. The server was okay to begin with. We were told false information about billing, service was rushed, and not very enjoyable. When it came down to the time of the billing- she asked in front of the entire party if we wanted an "auto grat" this was INCREDIBLY awkward and rude to ask as it put all my guests on the spot. We all awkwardly agreed and she then went on to rudely telling all of us to not be shy about tipping her extra. Overall experience was not poor, everyone commented on the bad service and awkward tense vibe. I will not go back nor recommend anyone to go. Food is overpriced but venue is nice."

  • "Upon arrival we encountered a lineup of 6 people all waiting to check their winter coats. Once finally seated the service was Ok but I was surprised when the server commented on my engagement ring in front of my business companion. Food was quick to arrive and was hot but very pricey by comparison to similar eateries."

  • "I had dinner here with a friend at 8pm on a Wednesday night. When we arrived it was packed - always a good sign. We were given a brilliant table overlooking the kitchen, which is completely open and situated next to the dining area. This was great for seeing the array of different foods coming out. Our waiter was attentive but not overly so - although he was very busy. I ordered two starter/meze - the soup and crab cakes. My friend ordered the fisherman's stew. The stew was beautifully presented, with an abundance of seafood. The soup was lovely and crab cakes were OK. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and it is a very pretty setting in which to eat. I would recommend to anyone and everyone, whatever their occasion."

  • "I always have an exceptional experience at this downtown Greek marvel. From the staff to the food to the quality of the establishment, it is always an exceptional dining experience. I especially like the Salmon, but the other fish is also very good, and they do a nice upscale take on modern Greek cuisine, Highly recommended."

  • "This is the first time I'd been here and I had a really great time. I had the greek meatballs as a main and they were beautifully seasoned and I really liked the orzo. The herbed bread that came to the table was also really good. Chocolate mousse at dessert time was a little surprising. It was a darker chocolate and so wasn't as light as mousse usually is, but I really liked the difference."

  • "The lighting was much too dim for my liking - all of us at my table had difficulty reading the menu! Our waitress was OK but not too attentive - she did not offer us fresh cracked pepper after our dishes were brought to the table, I had to ask for it. She also did not ask if we wanted our hot water topped up for our tea."

  • "Their food preparations are delicious. This is not stereotypical for Toronto... No pita, no souvlaki, no tzatziki, etc. Salads, calamari, octopus, lamb... All worthwhile. Same owner as Little Anthony's."

  • "An amazing dinner on Valentine's day. I was really pleased with the ambience and the food. The octopus was an amazing appetizer. The pastry with braised lamb was delicious as well."

  • "Took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day, made a reservation about a week prior on open table. No issues with getting our reservation filled, and we got a spacious table just for the two of us. It was a pretty busy night, with almost all tables being full, so it took a while for the waiter to get to us. The appetizers, and main course were delicious and exceeded our expectations. Wine selection was superb! Only let down was the professionalism of our waiter, upon challenging a duplicate charge on my receipt, he offered to pay me $5 cash to fix the error. He also implied I was cheap for bringing it up - not a good way to win over customers."

  • "The food is tasty and the atmosphere is nice however: 1. The food took quite a while to come out. We had an early reservation 11:45am (2nd table in the restaurant) and our food took about 1/2 hour to come out! 2. Very small potions - this is because of Winterlicious I guess 3. My dining partner had cash to pay her bill and they would not take it as they did not have change"

  • "We had a great experience from the complimentary sparkling wine to toast a birthday celebration, delicious food (would recommend the grilled octopus and calamari and the main kleftiko) to a traditional but favourite dessert, baklava! Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. This restaurant takes Greek food to a sophisticated level and creates amazing dishes that we all enjoyed immensely. We cannot wait to return and have recommended it to friends!"

  • "Two of us went to volos for winterlicious. We ordered the calamari for the appetizer, it was not as good as I expected it to be. The calamari was a bit on the chewier side. We ordered the lamb and the salmon for the main courses - these dishes were very well done. The lamb and salmon both melted in our mouths and were flavoured well. We ordered the backlava and greek yoghurt for dessert, these were prepared before hand and they were average, nothing special. The food gets a good rating because out of the three courses only 1 course exceeded expectations. The service and ambience were very good. The waiter was friendly and attentive and ambience was very romantic. Highly recommend to go again, but order off the a la carte menu instead."
