  • "My girlfriend and I take our moms and stepmoms to brunch every Mother's Day, this was one of our overall best experiences. The food was really good, service was excellent. The restaurant is sort of a mini-museum with many old Hollywood photos about. The design of the rooms was just beautiful. Everyone enjoyed themselves!"

  • "We were in town for our anniversary and planned to check out restaurant based on reviews. Starting with our server Max, the experience was super and 5 star all the way. The hostess (missing name) and relations manager, Nina, were beyond expectation as they helped me surprise her with a gift the hotel packaged up for her. As for the food, the apps namely the kale salad and oysters were quite delicious followed by two amazing entrees. The filter and chicken dish were spectacular. All parties at the restaurant from the busboys to the server were extremely friendly which really added to this special occasion. Overall the hotel and restaurant are top notch in Los Angeles."

  • "We stay quite often at Sofitel hotels around the world. And, we know that the food is always good. We had lunch at Esterel as we needed to be in the area around that time. The menu was fun and had a nice variety of things to chose from. And, the items we chose were delicious! The restaurant is very avant garde in design. Sadly, on a Monday, very few people were there to enjoy the restaurant. We would go back and hopefully others do, too."

  • "it's dineLA time so we decided to give esterel a try. Our experience wasn't horrible but probably won't come back for more. The food was okay. Nothing really stands out. The waiters were super nice but a bit scattered. They made a mistake with my friend's order 3 times. And no one seems to know which one is the correct dish ( there were some confusion about butternut squash soup and pumpkin soup ) Overall, it's an okay experience but probably won't pay a full price to dine there."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful (reminded me of the Aria in Las Vegas) and the service fantastic. Our party of seven went during DineLA, and they were so accommodating. They put us in our own dining room (the dining table was also beautiful). However, the consensus around most of the table was that the food was a bit underwhelming, even for the DineLA price. A friend ordered off the 30-minute lunch "regular" menu, but the portion sizes were extremely small. Overall, the food was not as flavorful as we expected - for the dollar value, there is better food out there."

  • "My finance and I happened to be in the area during lunch on Friday, and realized we had not tried yet one DineLA restaurant during the entire two weeks it's been going. So...we purveyed the DineLA website, looked over a few choices and menus, and decided on Estérel . What a surprising find, and in all the good ways. The location is inside the Sofitel, and the ambiance is very exquisite. We both felt we were not 'dressed up' enough for the hotel, and didn't expect such a high-class feel. The restaurant itself was comfortable, and welcoming. As for the food, and the DineLA menu, overall I was happy. Most of the items ran a bit on the 'tiny' side, but fortunately packed a lot of flavor. Service overall was attentive, and helpful."

  • "We were late for our 2pm reservation. They stopped serving Dine LA at 230pm. But they will still serve regular lunch. We tried their 30 minute lunch. It was good. Small serving of 4 courses like bento box style. We were full though at the end. Their bread needs to be changed. We didn't care much for it. Romano was our waiter. He was good."

  • "This place was not impressive. We are foodies and did Dine LA and the service was sub par and the food was nothing to call home about. We will not return as there were not many tables in the dining room, and having been a server, we should have received top notch service, yet more than once the server ignored us and walked by us, failing to check on us. First time at this Restaurant for Dine LA and no thanks to returning. Disappointing."

  • "We actually went with our kids and took advantage of the special menu during dineLA. The place was shockingly quiet, with only a few other tables seated. Having said that, the server was attentive and tolerant to my kids' antics. The food was good but not great. After the meal, we spent some time at the very plush enclosed "outdoor" area. The atmosphere was very nice. Would have been very romantic without the kids."

Dessert was clearly some prepackaged Sysco product (that didn't stop them from charging an outrageous mark up), chicken was dry and accompanied by some horrible over cooked gnocci, don't even get me started on the app. - tuna "carpaccio" more like tuna goo with garlic powder sprinkled on it (why???). In case you still want to go get ready to pay at least three times retail for the mediocre wine selection."

  • "Upon entering the restaurant, the host was talking to another guest and didnt acknowledge 3 people walking up to the desk. We were standing there for about 5 minutes until we approached him about getting seated seeing as the restaurant was fairly empty. We get to our table and even though we had reservations, the table wasnt set for our party of 3. The food we ordered was very underseasoned. Overall, the 3 of us were dissatisfied with the appetizers and entrees we had ordered but the desserts were okay. From this experience, I doubt we would come back."

  • "We dined here because we were staying in the hotel. The food was quite good but the service was very slow. The restaurant was not crowded & it was very frustrating to have to wait 15 minutes for our drinks, then wait another 15 minutes for our appetizers. Our main course was then brought out before we finished the appetizers. We were overcharged for 3 glasses of wine that we hadn't ordered - they were taken off the bill but it was just another bit of inattention to our meal."

  • "The night we went was slow, a rainy Sunday night. Food is always amazing and any of Chef Simon's restaurants. I tried sweetbreads and really liked them here. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the lemon poppy seed cake that I save and ate for breakfast. I couldn't quite figure out what the aftertaste was."

  • "I didn't think the food was very good, we had a mediocre food experience. The entrees were quite un exciting and over-priced and the one of the apps- the yellowtail crudo was almost inedible. Too salty and almost no fish but lots of green papaya and very strange flavors. The bread was also doughy and bland. The only decent item was the dessert a chocolate banana layer cake with caramelized bananas. We would not go back or recommend it. The atmosphere was lovely, dark, quiet and romantic. Too bad the food didn't match up."

  • "I really like Kerry Simon's food, but I must say I wasn't too impressed with this meal. I ordered the truffle macaroni and cheese which I've had in the past and the truffle oil or whatever was used to simulate the flavor of truffle was inferior and just tasted like the mac and cheese had leeched the flavor of a plastic container. The golden beet gazpacho was way too rich since the avocado and crab mixture could have used something more astringent to compliment it and it was too creamy. The cauliflower croquettes were not hot, which, when you're dealing with a fried food is not appetizing. It pains me to write this, because, again, I think Mr. Simon is an imaginative and wonderful chef."

  • "The place was absolutely gorgeous, the patio settings were fabulous, and the service crew were very kind and attentive, but unfortunately the food was awful and didn't match the place. The bread and beef Carpaccio pizza were the best part, the tuna dynamite were drawing in heavy cream sauce, bamboo steamed halibut was tasteless and overcooked, the lamb porterhouse was over salted, although our deal came with desert, we were disappointed and left without having any."
