  • "I've been to Essex brunch at least 5 times in the last year! I must say every time i go there the experience is different... sometimes better than others. This last time it wasn't as good since the waitress was kind of new so she had a hard time taking our orders. Other than that... food is great! My personal favorite is The CEO but i know the bennedict eggs and the mexican matzo are good too. Love the botomless mimosas they are very well prepared and waiters are filling up your glass before you're even done with it. Great place highly recommended!"

  • "If you're into oysters on the half shell be sure to visit during happy hour. I've eaten brunch there twice and enjoyed the meal very much and the service staff were excellent."

  • "Saturday brunch here was awesome. We made our reservations 45 minutes before hand and I was really surprised that we were actually seated at the precise time. Our server Sue was really attentive and awesome. The food was delish and our the three mimosas hit the spot. We will definitely be back ."

  • "the staff at Essex was great in accommodating our large crowd of 16 people! It was a great time!!"

  • "I was quite disappointed with my dining experience here. It seemed like a lovely place however the service was sub par. Our waitress wasn't able to answer our questions about the menu and after waiting a while another waiter showed up. I asked if they could accommodate me as I don't eat sea food and wanted grilled salmon salad in place of grilled shrimp and they said certainly. He brings out smoked fish over a bed of salad greens which is clearly not what was requested. After inquiring, he said he's sorry he screwed up but didn't offer to have it corrected. During our meal, they kept on eyeing us and tried on multiple occasions to clear the table although we were still not done with our food. They seriously need to retrain their staff!!"

  • "I went here to celebrate my b-day with my girlfriends and it was a hit. It was a cute intimate spot with a good crowd of people. We were seated about 10 minutes after arrival. The Hostesses were quite busy but very gracious and helpful. We were instantly greeted by a server who constantly checked on us and never missed a beat re-filling our mimosas...I lost count after a while but my last count was 5 for sure...Happy Birthday to me!!! I would have loved to have a better music selection to help mix up the groove while conversing but overall it was perfect!!!"

  • "I got a basic brunch of three eggs over easy. Eggs were over medium. My friend got the matzah brie, which she liked. Coffee was terrible. The entire time, I felt rushed and like tthey was just waiting for us to eat our eggs and leave so that they could turn our table. After no more than an hour after we sat down, the hostess told us we needed to pay because they needed the table. Major turn off. Not sure I'd go back."

  • "I went with my friends and we caught up with each other, ate good food and the drinks were great as well. Great time and the cost was very reasonable."

  • "I'm not from NYC so this was a nice change to go for brunch with friends. My suggestion would be to indication somewhere that brunch is CASH only besides the receipt (unless it was not clearly indicated and I didn't see it). The food was very good and well cooked and the waitress was lightening fast. It was crowded but she kept the food and drinks coming. I had a great experience catching up with friends."

  • "Love coming to Essex with large groups for brunch on the weekends because we always have the best time. The food is great, although they did run out of a few menu items by the time we got there, but they made up for it by serving a few extra rounds of mimosas! Ambiance is very energetic and lively and the service was great. Will definitely be back soon!"

  • "The food, bloody Mary's, and service have been great both times I've attended brunch. Definitely make a reservation the night before. The place gets packed around 12! I've gotten there right before the crowd and have always been satisfied."

  • "Went to Essex with a large group of friends for Brunch, which was the same for everyone else in the restaurant. Restaurant is pretty loud which I didn't mine since we end up being the loud people when we get together. We were seated at our reservation time which was perfect. I had the short rib hash which was pretty good. Everyone in my party was happy with their food choice. The service it pretty quick which I appreciates because I was starving. I would def go back again."

  • "Did not realize brunch was price fixed until we arrived for our brunch reservation. I understand that there is only so much the establishment can give when they do this...but servers that as rude...spill drinks in customers...the waiter spilled Bloody Mary mix on my jeans...all over the table...on my wife...and friend...and did this more than once when serving food and water. The food was garbage...poached eggs hard boiled...fries cold and loaded with grease...just pure garbage... Through out the brunch it was hurry up...eat...get out...next kind of vibe. Patrons were more interested in the cheap brunch drinks...so it's clear it was not a one time event."

  • "Small restaurant with many tables. Very noisy and didn't really measure our expectations. The food was ok - we ate Angus beef and salamon. The service was very good!"

  • "A very eclectic and interesting menu in a very lively place. Although it was very crowded and noisy, our group of five sat a side booth which actually allowed for conversation. One Mimosa would have been adequate especially if the cost of brunch were less, but if I am paying for it, I am drinking it. The only glitch, was that although the hostess acknowledged hearing that our party had arrived, she neglected to note it on her electronic pad. Anyway-GO!!!!!!"

  • "This was an amazing brunch spot! Made a reservation for 2 and we we walked in right at 3pm for our 3pm reservation. We were sat right away even when the lobby was packed with people waiting. Before we could even take off our coats, the waitress asked if we wanted a bloody mary, screwdriver or mimosa...way to be on top of your game! The drinks kept flowing and the food was very good! Definitely will be going back very soon!"

  • "Other than that the cost right in target for a brunch with better much unlimited mimosa."

  • "Went for a birthday brunch early on a sunday as reservations are hard to come by (its really necessary to book in advance otherwise you can wait a while). Now I know why there were reservations available before noon--no alcohol is served until then! They do supply free coffee/tea/juice until they bring out the mimosas. If you overstay your allotted time in your reservations, they will give you drink tickets and send you to the crowded bar. Feels a little rude and the space is crowded. Overall a great spot and worth it, but be prepared for the brunch crowds."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "Their reservationists are incredibly rude. You can barely hear them and they sound put out that they even have to answer the phone. Next time I'm not even bothering to cancel my reservation since it is clearly such a hassle for them. That being said, the atmosphere is excellent, the servers themselves are nice, and the drinks keep coming throughout brunch. It's a great place to catch up with friends on the weekend."

  • "Once again, amazing brunch! Can't beat the cocktails, and the food was delish. The wait was a little long, but what a fantastic afternoon!"

  • "Overall it was a nice experience and can't beat the value of the brunch special! Portions were big and they brought onion rolls for the table as a starter! Our waitress was beyond attentive and very nice. We overstayed the two hour brunch limit and were given additional drink tickets to use at the bar. Food was delicious had the Mexican matzo and really enjoyed it, eggs were a little runny but nothing to stop me from eating them! By the time the food arrived I already had consumed 2 mimosas, prompt refills :D I would recommend this place for anyone looking to have a boozy brunch in a more casual atmosphere...."

  • "My boyfriend and I wanted to go out for a night of Oysters and drinks and found this place for their specials! They have Happy Hour Sunday-Friday 5-8pm you get $1.00 Oysters plus half priced drinks! The oysters were great! They also had a dinner special for $29.95, you get an appetizer, Entrée and a Drink included. We both thought it was a great deal and shared plates. The Lobster Macaroni and Cheese was so yummy and my boyfriend ordered the Filet Mignon which was very good! I also enjoyed the Duck with Bok Choy and spring rolls very much. For dessert we had the peanut butter pie which was delicious with some fruit! YUMM!"

  • "I have been here a few times and always have a good time. The food is generously proportioned and tasty and the wait staff are very good at keeping our glasses filled. The ambiance is great and buzzy so this a brilliant place to come with a group of friends and get pleasantly tipsy!"

  • "My friend and I ordered from the $60. menu, which gave you the option of one appetizer and one entree, 2 and half hours open bar, which is a plus if you like to drink heavily. The food was not anything special, my friend and I both started out with the mussels, which were in a very bland cream sauce, the mussels were ok, it was the sauce that ruined the dish. I had the salmon, which was very dry and the presentation was lacking. My friend had the hanger steak, the presentation was a disaster and she was not at all impressed with the dish, it lacked flavor and the meat was extremely tough. The restaurant itself is nice, there were several parties, so I would think it's good for groups and the bar was packed."

  • "I've been to Essex a number of times but for some reason the food fell short of it's reputation and my past experiences this time around. I ordered the CEO as I have in the past, the eggs were cold and there was barely any chorizo in it. My friend ordered the matzoh brei which was cold dry and tasteless. I really wanted to make an impression as it was her birthday, but I guess there is always next year."

  • "I came to have brunch with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. I thought it was going to be a Lon wait to e seated which I didn't mind since all of my party didn't arrive on time. Once they all got there we were seated pretty quickly. It was a bit packed. The food was good and the service was great. Would def. come here again"

  • "The food was good and servers were friendly. One big negative was that we were rushed only having day at our table for about 45 minutes. It felt like a diner for brunch which was not OK."

  • "Great spot - one of the best boozy brunch deals in town (they say 3 drinks for the price but if you're nice they'll keep topping up). Just make sure you aim to get a res for one of the balcony tables- much more fun than down on the ground floor!"

  • "Essex was great for brunch. Besides having a dirty glass everything else was great. My server was new but very friendly and they even gave my friend and I 2 comp drink tickets after our brunch which was a nice treat. Great music if your in your 20's-30's... But super busy so I would recommend making a reservation."

  • "They may only have one vegan item on their brunch menu but it's amazing. This place is perfect for vegans and non vegans to have a boozy brunch together and both be completely satisfied. It's my favorite brunch spot."
