My cousin remarked how the meats which were brought to the table were always HOT off the fire and she appreciated that. The buffet portion of the meal always inclueds so many interesting choices that you just want to try them all. Everything from the food to the service is very inviting and it's a relaxing way to spend some leasurly time with good friends and great food! I have been several times for dinner, this was my first lunch and it did not disappoint. The place is very beautiful and staff is really friendly. They do take care of you at every spot. They have actually created food as piece of art which tempts you by looks, smell and taste. More expensive than most but you do get genuine food (incl. feijoada) and they keep on bringing meat to your table without having to ask. They'll start with lesser-quality meats but if you're patient the chicken wrapped in bacon and filet mignon will make their way to you.
My experience with them started on a sour note with inadequate phone service. Twice they put me on hold for long times (4mn and more) and once never picked up the call again, leaving me on hold forever.
We went on a Sunday night and it wasn't very busy, though they did have a couple large groups. The room is large and not ideal for a romantic dinner. Service was flawless.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen every bite of meat isWhen every bite of meat is warm and juicy, seemingly hot off the fire, over a a full hour of dining , it is an amazing experience. Not burnt, or dry, or in need of steak sauce.
One could only replicate such a feat, if they were standing over a bbq the entire time, or like a Korean bbq where you have charcoal at every table and can pick from the grill with impunity. The salad bar had plenty of fresh food to chose from, even though it was lunch. Price for lunch is moderate (around $50per person lunch and $75 per person for dinner, if you eat desert and have a beverage.). This was my fourth visit and I would go back! Easy to find location. I have enjoyed Brazilian BBQ at six different restaraunts and this is tied for number one on my list. The crime brûlée and the sirloin are my favorite dishes! This was our 2nd trip to Espetus San Mateo. We find this restaurant to be much superior than what Pampas is now (i.e., its meat selection & tenderness) and even slightly better than Fogo de Chaõ in Los Angeles (better rodizio). It is nice to see that the owners brought to the bay Area a true Brazilian experience with superb food quality, decor, brazilian music and staff. We started off by drinking a caipirinha and enjoying some appetizers in the bar while waiting to be seated - that really set the mood. All the meats were cooked to perfection except for the pork (slightly dry). An excellent place to go if you have a large appetite. on the plus side: everything was laid out very nicely. the wait staff was very attentive.
on the minus side: the spinach/salmon salad and guacamole spots were totally vacant when we went by, NOT what i would have expected in an establishment such as this. i never saw the filet mignon come out of the kitchen, and by the time i realized we could ask for it, i had had enough meat. we arrived at 5pm on a sunday, and it was very nice - by 6pm it was way too noisy for comfort.

Very wonderful ambiance, the food was great. I am still full.. lol. Wonderful overall. We will go and visit again. I loved the desert. Thank you, for the attentive service. During our recent visit our main server, Kim, was just outstanding. He was thoroughly engaging and made the dining experience all the better. I had heard much about it thought the last couple of years but the worry about the high price point always kept me away. My family decided to give it a trty finally and we were glad we did. The food was very food and the service was truly top notch. It was a very good, authentic representation of a Brazilian churrascaria. Yes, it was pricy, about 60 pp without booze, but honestly, where else can you spend that kind of money to get an outstanding salad bar and a constant flow of well prepared high quality meats.
