"Welcome to Espetus Churrascaria!" The flavors of Brazil come alive at Espetus with the Bay Area's very first Rodizio Style restaurant. The concept is simple; serve the meat straight from the fire on which it was cooked so that the flavor, temperature, & texture are perfect. In the Brazilian Language, Portuguese, Espetus means skewer. In traditional churrascaria (shoo-ras-ka-ria) meat is cooked on skewers over an open fire, brought straight to the table where it is carved directly on to your plate. For one set price, you will experience one or all of our succulent cuts of meat, continuously served until you are satisfied. Espetus also has a full salad bar overflowing with the exotic salads & side dishes of the Brazilian Cuisine.Continued

  • "If you're a meat lover then this is the place for you. Espetus Churrascaria San Mateo has a wonderful atmosphere and exceptional food. Save your appetite for this place. I recommend you stick to the salads and vegetables while the servers come around with a variety of meats. They have stopped serving shrimp as the quality from their supplier is not up to their standards. Great place for small groups as you wouldn't want to be stuck with the bill. Bon appetite!"

  • "We've eaten at Churrascaria's in Brazil and know what it should be. We wanted to love this place BUT...We made reservations for a Friday night dinner. The positive - We arrived and were promptly seated. The not so positive - Not only was Espetus was too Americanized, the service was extremely poor. The meat arrived very slowly - often times the servers walked right by our table which clearly had the green sign displayed. We had to ask them to come back. The servers were not well trained on how to cut the meat from the skewers. After 1.5 hours, we gave up waiting and asked for the check. What should have been a great date, was just completely disappointing. $180 (including tax and tip) for a few slices of meat and a mediocre salad bar."

  • "My family loves to dine at Espetus for special occasions. They have a great meat selection, although at our last visit, we were told they were not serving shrimp. Apparently, they were not happy with their supplier about the quality of the shrimp, so they opted not to serve it on the menu. Maybe next time. There are plenty of types of meat to satisfy everyone's tastes: beef, chicken, and pork. We love the complimentary appetizer plate of polenta, fried bananas, and popovers. Salad and hot food bars are always stocked with dishes to complement the meats that they serve. The servers and waiters are all very friendly. The dessert menu has changed and I miss the chocolate mousse."

  • "Our 2nd experience was just as good as our first! The salad bar was unbelievable, the the countless meats that kept coming & coming was out of this world! We came back for my brother-inlaw birthday and boy we were stuffed. I thought I would eat so much because I was looking forward to this dinner, but just having about 2 plates and barely touching it made me full. Other then that the food was awesome and everyone enjoyed them selfs. It's a defineltly great place for family dinners, bday, get togethers etc."

  • "Had been looking forward to dining here for about a year and finally got to it when we had a friend in town. It was disappointing, mainly because others had really recommended it and we found it average. We've been to superior churrascarias in every way, including the large chain Texas de Brazil. Biggest problems: the food not being consistent (the first round of chicken hearts were tender, the second were chewy and gross; one round of red wine steak was well-done, another was medium-rare, etc.), and the gauchos not coming around in an orderly fashion - some of the items kept coming around (like bacon-wrapped steak and garlic sirloin) while others we had to request when they didn't come by after a half hour (the sausage and parmesan pork)."

  • "Went there with my hubby and my colleague from the Netherlands. The food was excellent - just as expected (both the meat and the salad bar). The service was good too. However, it was so incredibly loud there, we could not talk at all. So, it's better to go on a weekday evening if you want to have a decent conversation with your table mates. If you don't care about conversation and enjoy the sole focus to be on meat galore...then this is the place for you on a weekend."

  • "I took my husband here for a special occasion and he absolutely loved it! It was his first trip to a Brazilian steakhouse and I am sure he is going to be hooked now. We made a reservation so we did not have to wait at all for a table on a Saturday evening. I do not usually eat a lot of meat, but it was a great experience and the food (especially the chicken sausage...yum) was delicious. Our table servers were extremely attentive and friendly, and allowed us to dine and enjoy at our own pace. I highly recommend this restaurant, in San Mateo or in San Francisco, to anybody who loves a great meal. The menu is a bit pricey, though, with a $50(+)/person charge, so I will only be reserving for special occasions (without my kids)."

  • "Dined at Espetus for the first time. Wasn't for any special occasion...just wanted to try out this place that tries to jam as much meat as you can get into you as possible! Also, if you want to add a little more onto your bill...the dessert selection was decent too. The dish that was basically passion fruit mousse was a pleasant surprise. Service was good, food quality was good...example...the garlic steak tasted "garlicky" and didn't taste like the lamb. This has been an experience before with other places. Overall...nice place in "old B street" in San Mateo. Held back on the 5 star rating because although things were good...the price of $54 per person wasn't all that thrilling. If they dropped it by 10-15% it would be right on hit!"

  • "My boyfriend and I came here for our 3 year anniversary. I've been here before and decided to take him here for a nice romantic dinner. He's a meat lover and I knew right away that this would be the place for him. We were greeted with a warm welcome and were seated almost immediately. All the meat that were brought out were all perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. It was like being in meat heaven. The staff came around checking on us once in a while and offered amazing service. It was great. We will definitely come here a second time. WE LOVEEE ESPETUS! :)"

We both enjoyed the mix between self serve salads, hot dishes, and the meat that comes delivered to the table. All in all we had a great time!"

  • "My coworkers and I came to celebrate our company's four year anniversary. We were greater and seated immediately and given the lay of the land shortly afterward. My best recommendation would be to not have a big lunch, nor overdo it on the salad bar. Save room for the succulent, perfectly cooked and seasoned meats that circulate. And don't be scared of the chicken hearts, they are little bites of amazement. And try some pineapple too!"

  • "I've seen Espetus advertised airline magazines and always wanted to try it. And boy am I glad that we did! I loved the heating towers that greet you upon arrival in the front. And to my surrprise they had live music....my favorite!!! The resataurant was extremely peasing to the eyes, the food was superb, and the service was awesome. We had Amanda and she was better than great!!! If I had to offer one criticism it would the red meat was too rare for my liking. I made sure to request more "ccoked" pieces but it was so flavourful that I didn't mind. I ate like a King! If you have never eaten at this place you are truly missing out."

  • "The restaurant has a wonderful decor, very clean and the staff are well groomed and just as friendly. Dress attire is clean, smart casual which personally I prefer. The salad bar is appropriately described, it's a gourmet salad bar that has a variety of wonderful and tasty salads and greens to choose from....A Paleo heaven would be an understatement when it comes to the selection of beef, pork, chicken, chicken hearts, lamb and shrimp. All cuts of meat are superbly roasted to mouth watering perfection! Service was fast and friendly and polite! Restroom facilities were clean and well maintained for their patrons, which for me is an important piece in my dining experience."
