  • "We had been planning a visit to the Prince of Wales hotel in NOTL for this time of year, so we were pleased with the "special" they had. We had a lovely room at a very good price. My only problem with the dinner included package was that they were tremendously overbooked. On two of the three nights we had to wait half hour for our reservation ("you may wait at the bar") No thanks, I have my own bar In my room, call when you're ready. Once seated, service attentive. Food lovely, wine too over -priced. One night I'm fairly sure we were charged for a much more expensive bottle than we either ordered or received. I'd advise holding onto the empty bottle until your tab arrives. I recall breakfast as being far superior but still nice."

  • "Theysat us facing a wall and a large pillar ( I booked well in advance and when there was plenty of other empty tables?) We ordered the lamb ($40), and Striped Bass ($38), with a side of scallops ($20) ...only three small scallops with drawn butter, ...good, but nothing special, so why $20 .certainly my view of the wall and pillar did not compensate. The lamb was a shank, literally no bigger then a small turkey drumstick, presented on a very small amount of tasteless beans, greens and sauce. It seemed to have no flavour added, just lamb - a tasteless $40 entree!?! My bass was presented on a bed of over-cooked, tasteless, unedible quoina and collared greens. The fish itself was very good, but tiny, 4cm x 6cm (four forkfulls) for $38."

  • "The decor and atmosphere at Prince of Wales is outstanding. Walking into the restaurant and being seating for a great view of the park was a perfect intro to lunch. Unfortunately, for the lunch that we ordered the food was more like bar food than it was a fine dining experience. The food was good, but wasn't what we expected from the elegance of the decor and white gloved wait staff, etc. I'm not sure that we would go back, as it was a little bit pricey for a "bar food" experience."

The service was outstanding, with a very friendly host, and immediate seating, although we arrived 30 minutes before our reserved time. The food was served timely, and we always felt the attention and care of any host walking by. The wine list is great, with a good variety of local and imported wines."

We enjoyed the Tasting Menu with Wine pairings - 5 courses. The wines were paired perfectly, and our sommelier introduced each with pride. The atmosphere in the restaurant and the hotel in general was elegant and romantic - really an excellent venue for a special occasion, and a superb value."

  • "I had the smoked white fish bisque to start which was absolutely delicious. Not something I would usually order but it was a chilly night and I was craving some warm soup, and was definitely not disappointed. Then I had the filet, which I always get, and as usual was cooked to perfection. I've never had a bad meal here. Love this place and the atmosphere is stunning, one of a kind. (Especially around the holidays, it is magical ;)"

  • "We found the Prince of Wales in general to have some issues with service. Most servers were friendly and welcoming. Others were aloof. The food was very good and the sommelier circulates the room offering his services. His recommendations were good. I booked through Open Table and used the box to request a romantic table. When I arrived I asked them about it. They were dismissive saying they can't guarantee anything. Sure enough, when we arrived they sat us at a table no one would consider in anyway romantic, even though more romantic tables were available. They were accommodating and moved us to a different table but had clearly made no effort to honour the request that had been made through Open Table."

  • "Nice atmosphere, and we had a great table for 2 by the window. Service was stellar! The cannalloni was kind of different, but good, and I loved the potato soup. My date had the rib eye steak, and I'm glad she let me try some. It was the best steak I've ever tasted! The wines were quite pricey, but a very comprehensive selection. I would definitely go back, and I recommend this restaurant for any special occasion."

I asked for a special request "roses be sent to our table", they not only sent us two roses but also added 2 glasses of complimentary sparkling wine. It was a wonderful surprise. The service was pleasant and really complimented the elegant atmosphere; beautiful decor. The dinner menu looks a lot more appetizing yet overall the experience was pleasing."

If you are looking for Niagara on the Lake ambience and the most convenient location in town, then Escabeche is definately the place for you. However, you will need to search further for the best food in town."

  • "We had an excellent meal at Escabeche on our initial visit. The dining room is spacious and beautiful with an upscale, genteel vibe. The food was tasty and nicely presented, from amuse bouche right on through dessert. The wine list is extensive and quite complete. Service was professional, albeit a tad slow, but not to a point where it was an issue. We only get up in this area once a year for the Shaw Festival plays, but you can bet this will be a must stop on our next trip."

  • "We were very disappointed in the Sunday brunch. We lived in NOTL in themid-1980s and remembered how good the brunch was at the Prince of Wales. This just didn't compare. The buffet was almost empty when we got up to get our food and it took a while to re-stock. The eggs Benedict were hard and the English muffin wasn't even toasted. Definitely not what we remembered!"
