  • "The food was quite good and the service was good, with one exception. We were asked to keep a used fork, which you never expect from a class restaurant. I also noted that the windows were very dirty, especially the ones over the glassed-in front room. They had not been washed in several months! It makes one wonder about the overall cleanliness of the facility. Goodness only knows they charge enough for everything, so that they could give out clean forks and wash the windows fairly often. There are enough very good places to eat in town, so it will be a while before I return. It was our first time and we were disappointed!"

We had lunch there; simply put, it tasted like fast food. The service started off poorly too; however, our server did recover and, when we complained about the food, she offered to give my wife something else. Since we were so disappointed, we didn't want anything else so they did take off my wife's meal, which she hardly touched, off the bill. Perhaps dinners - with the executive chef - are good. Unfortunately, based on the lunch we had, we will not be returning to try."

  • "I selected the Escabeche Restaurant to introduce my granddaughter to the experience of fine dining on her birthday. I had eaten there before, and found the whole package: food, service, and ambience, to be outstanding. My granddaughter was thrilled with her food, with the patient and informative wait staff, and with the atmosphere, which hinted at opulent dining of days gone by. We were able to converse in normal tones, eat at our leisure, and celebrate her birthday in the way I had intended. Nick, our waiter, was never more than a nod away, and never intruded. The squid ink tagliatelle was exquisite, and my granddaughter's steak was perfect. On the whole a perfect evening."

  • "What a great lunch experience! We found the portions to be quite large. My wife and I started with a Charcuterie Board. We enjoyed a fantastic 2011 Jackson Triggs Grand Reserve Chardonnay that was served at the precise temperature for enjoyment. Lunch entrees were fish and chips and a Thai chicken wrap. There was no room for dessert! Juan Carlos was our server and he was great; both knowledgeable and entertaining. We thought that he was just the type of server someone would want when on vacation. TIP: Parking is hard to find, but, if you have a dining reservation at Escabeche, you can valet your vehicle at the hotel FOR FREE! No stress and the car was back in less then five minutes after the request."

  • "I booked the Prince of Wales hotel for a birthday gift for my husband, after having problems initially with booking a package with Prince of Wales, the food made up for our issues. The suggested 2011 Cabernet wine from Chateau des Charmes was just right for our meals. The Roasted white onion soup and cauliflower bisque were spectacular! For our second course, we had the Potatoe gnocchi the beef tenderloin. It was also great! We finished the meal off with their creme brûlée and their house made ice-cream. Although I didn't enjoy the ice cream much, I really enjoyed their creme brûlée and the detail put into it. I would definitely come back again for this fantastic meal."

The crowd watching the hockey game in the nearby bar was loud and occasionally distracting.   • "The restaurant did an excellent job to cope with their Mother's Day brunch theme. Once my mom and I walked in the restaurant reception, we were greeted with several friendly and cheerful faces by saying "Happy Mother's Day" to my mom. We were both given a mini pot of roses when we were paying the bill. This really made our days:) As to the buffet food, I would not say it was excellent but well worth what we paid for $38 per person. There were roast beef, roast turkey, French toasts, egg benedict, sausages, bacons, omelettes, pasta, hot soup, smoke meats, smoke salmon, salads, fresh fruits, breads, croissants, etc., and of course variety of desserts. The restaurant arranged a musician playing harp during part of the brunch. Cool! "

  • "We had been planning a visit to the Prince of Wales hotel in NOTL for this time of year, so we were pleased with the "special" they had. We had a lovely room at a very good price. My only problem with the dinner included package was that they were tremendously overbooked. On two of the three nights we had to wait half hour for our reservation ("you may wait at the bar") No thanks, I have my own bar In my room, call when you're ready. Once seated, service attentive. Food lovely, wine too over -priced. One night I'm fairly sure we were charged for a much more expensive bottle than we either ordered or received. I'd advise holding onto the empty bottle until your tab arrives. I recall breakfast as being far superior but still nice."

  • "Theysat us facing a wall and a large pillar ( I booked well in advance and when there was plenty of other empty tables?) We ordered the lamb ($40), and Striped Bass ($38), with a side of scallops ($20) ...only three small scallops with drawn butter, ...good, but nothing special, so why $20 .certainly my view of the wall and pillar did not compensate. The lamb was a shank, literally no bigger then a small turkey drumstick, presented on a very small amount of tasteless beans, greens and sauce. It seemed to have no flavour added, just lamb - a tasteless $40 entree!?! My bass was presented on a bed of over-cooked, tasteless, unedible quoina and collared greens. The fish itself was very good, but tiny, 4cm x 6cm (four forkfulls) for $38."

  • "The decor and atmosphere at Prince of Wales is outstanding. Walking into the restaurant and being seating for a great view of the park was a perfect intro to lunch. Unfortunately, for the lunch that we ordered the food was more like bar food than it was a fine dining experience. The food was good, but wasn't what we expected from the elegance of the decor and white gloved wait staff, etc. I'm not sure that we would go back, as it was a little bit pricey for a "bar food" experience."

The service was outstanding, with a very friendly host, and immediate seating, although we arrived 30 minutes before our reserved time. The food was served timely, and we always felt the attention and care of any host walking by. The wine list is great, with a good variety of local and imported wines."
