A word from Ernest & Scott Taproom
Ernest&Scott Taproom is a beer driven full service restaurant and event space featuring a modern beer garden menu. We are among the first beer-centric retailers in America to adopt the Brewers’ Association definition of craft brewery. Moreover, we apply the craft aspect to other facets of the restaurant from craft American Wines and Spirits to Creekstone Farms Meats butchered by Pat Lafreida to Glenn, our local mushroom forager.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time there and we really liked it. Definitely not for a romantic dinner but very energetic. If you are looking for good music, great drinks, good food and energy....this is a fantastic place. We will definitely be going back sometime soon."

  • "We had a group of 8 people (ages 30-70) and each of us thoroughly enjoyed our dinners... fish, steak, dinner salad, and shellfish. The waitress was friendly and competent. It was very early evening on a Saturday before going to the theater so the restaurant was quiet. There is a large bar area so it might be more lively later at night. Would definitely return."

  • "Awesome again! One of our new favorites. The scallops were great change my side to coucous very different from what Im used to but wonderful. My husband got the flat iron steak cooked perfectly and he really enjoyed it.And Ike was a great server again."

  • "Great atmosphere! Wonderful food and service! We really enjoyed this dining experience - wish that we lived closer, so that we could return more frequently! But we'll definitely be back!"

  • "We enjoy coming to the Taproom whenever we are heading to a show at the Grand. The servers always make sure that we are able to enjoy our meal and still make the show on time. Our meals were delicious. The Bison burger is the best around! The beer selection is outstanding and we always find something new to try. The musician that was playing that evening had a soulful voice and was very talented. We will be back to Ernest and Scott soon!"

  • "We have eaten here before and I remember it being so good. It was probable what I ordered because my husband fish special was great. I got the grilled vegetable sandwich and it was not what I thought, Not much flavor , but I had the beet salad that was so yummy. Great place to eat before a show at the Grand and the service was really good."

  • "We had dinner at Ernest and Scott before going to a show at the Grand Opera House, something we do on a regular basis. The food is always good, but this meal was just outstanding! I had the flat iron steak - perfectly cooked to my specifications and very tender. The sides were delicious and a perfect accompaniment. My husband had the inside-out chicken pot pie and was also very pleased with his selection. Our server (Joanna) was delightful, very attentive without hovering, and she helped make this a very pleasant experience for all of us (4 in our party). Thank you!"

  • "We got there on a Fri at 6pm forgetting that it would be happy hour. There was a band there and I asked to be placed as far away from the band as possible. There were 2 hostesses and the one repeats my request to the other with some attitude as if my request was some big imposition. Then we were seated at a table that was about 25 feet away from the band rather than one of the tables in the back of the restaurant. When I asked why we could not have one of the tables in the back I was told it was because it would mess up the servers. So we stayed at the table we were seated at and we sat there for 15 min until we stopped a waiter and asked who was our server and then we finally got some service. Or server was attentive. Food was good."

  • "The fra diablo mussels were excellent. Much better selection of food and specials than a few months ago. Inside out potpie was a hit, too! Keep up the good work!"

  • "The food was tasty and well priced, but the service was slow and the decor is strange. It was also much too loud for a Saturday, pre-theatre dinner crowd."

  • "the restaurant was very comfortable neat and clean. The wait staff was awesome friendly and cooperative. The menu is a bit limited and could be expanded."

  • "i took my kids to see Stomp so we decided to go to E&S for dinner...the music was so loud at the restaurant i asked our server to turn it down...she said she had no control. my reservations were for 6...my expectations at 6 were to be able to chat with my teenage kids about their week and walk to the playhouse…instead we had to sit in practical silence because we couldn’t hear each other. In the bar = cool for loud music Coming for dinner = turn it down or find a way to lower it in the dinner section vs. bar section I spent >$100 on dinner and will likely never come back because of it…plenty of other places to chose from.."

  • "Price fix menu was a nice addition...staff was friendly... Bottled wine prices are a bit over the top!"

  • "We stopped in for dinner before a show. It was their second anniversary so I don't know whether it's like this every week, but it was quite loud with a very busy bar. They seated us in a separate area, but it was still noisy. There was a guitarist/singer with a loud mike adding to the general noise level. The food was pretty good and the service was OK. I would try this restaurant again on a different night of the week to see if it might have a more reasonable noise level."

  • "We have tried this place now for the third time. We really want to like it, but there's just something about it. The food is okay; the service is ok. There was a mix-up in the kitchen where they served the special with chips instead of fries for three of us. Then would only bring two servings of fries to the table. They did this to the table next to us too. Marked ambiance low due to it being freezing cold in the restaurant. Some on the party ate dinner with coats on. Maybe we'll try it again, maybe not. Ahhh, downtown Wilmington."

  • "Solid place for a business lunch. Low-key but very attentive service. Pretty standard menu, but everything I've had has been good. It's a go-to for me for younger clients or when going out to lunch with co-workers. I'm not sure I'd recommend it for dinners or anything fancy, but the bar scene during happy hour is pretty good, especially for downtown Wilmington."

  • "We enjoy this restaurant. We have been several times and have always had a great time. The food is delicious and the servers are friendly and efficient. We frequently go when we are seeing a show at the Grand. They always get us out in time for our show. The beer selection is fantastic. They feature many craft brews and the staff is very knowledgeable about the different beers."

  • "We had a group of 6, and all ordered different beers and mostly appetizers, small plates, and salads. We had both mussels appetizers (yummy and good size to share). Beet salad, rabbit sausage grinder, bison burger, fish tacos and especially the scallops were all delicious. Service was friendly and efficient, and the place was surprisingly bright and open. We were there before a show at the Grand and the distance is perfect. I would definitely do it again!"

  • "Beer list is good. Food - not so good. Service - could have been A LOT better. We were overlooked most of the time and the place was not busy. Food was dry and, well, just not that good."

  • "We selected the Ernest and Scott Taproom for our business group's lunch due to its proximity and most of us hadn't been there previously. The food was very good and the service "just right". Our server provided the right mix of attention while allowing us to have "private" business discussions. The food (the selection was more than adequate for lunch) arrived "on time". Unfortunately, as this was a work related event, the opportunity to sample from the "ample sized" drink menu was limited. We will return. However, next time it will be after working hours."

  • "My friends and I went to Ernest and Scott for my birthday dinner on Friday night. Before we even had a minute to really look at either menu, the server was rushing us to order. We would ask him questions about the food and he didn't really seem to know or care. My friend and I ordered a fishbowl that was suppose to be in an 18oz glass but came out in an 8 oz one, but it was strong so we ignored it. It was when he messed up my friend's order so many times that she just gave up on it. Although he apologized, he had an attitude all night. The restaurant was nice and the food was good. We went there because it looked good and was reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the service put a damper on that part of the evening."

  • "We enjoy the vast beer selection and the food. They are also great at getting you out in time to see a show at the Grand. The night we were there they had Blues musicians playing. They sounded great!"

  • "This was our second meal at Ernest & Scott's. The first was in much better weather and we sat outside - it was a wonderful experience. This time the weather was horrid and we sat inside. The two top tables were so close together that it would be easier to speak to the stranger next to you than the person at your table. The tables were too small for the dishes they use - be sure to have them clear your plates before bringing coffee. I don't know why, with such small tables, they need to serve coffee on wooden platters. The actual food was good and I highly recommend the bacon wrapped lamb chops. Service was also pretty good and the pricing was sort of on the low side for a restaurant of this quality."

  • "Big show at the Grand so the place was packed. They did have our table ready, but they were clearly in the weeds. Wait staff was polite, but could not keep up. Drinks were slow to come, food came at different times and my sandwich arrived as we were leaving. Manager apologized and offered to take 20% off of the bill. Comped soup for me. Would like to go back when it is not a show night. Good wine selection by the glass at reasonable prices. Hate to give bad review...just not their night!"

  • "High prices for okay food. Can't believe they charged $8.50 for a small order of fries with the slightest touch of truffle oil. Chose the place because it was convenient to the Grand Opera House."

  • "If you are in the Opera House or Dupont Theatre area this is a nice walkable choice for good quality bistro style food. There is a nice selection of wines and craft beers. We were there for dinner before a show but happy hour was busy too. On Wed nights they have a live Blues show. This was a little loud if you are expecting a quiet dinner but it is a tap room."

  • "We found this restaurant on Open Table. It suited us because it was close to Opera House. Food was very good. We had one complaint about an appetizer (it was good but not as described)and the manager took it off our bill. All in all it was a great experience. Beautiful building. Would definitely go back."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner here before a show at The Grand. One of us had fish tacos and the other had a burger. Both were very good and the french fries were amazing. The menu did include some interesting sounding dinners but we were more in the mood for burgers/tacos. Our server (Ike) was outstanding -- very friendly and attentive. We loved the entertainment they had that evening. The singer/guitarist was really good and it would be pleasant to just have some drinks and enjoy the music. It's great to have a pleasant place for dinner and/or drinks within a block of The Grand. Next time you're in downtown Wilmington, give it a try!"

  • "We went on a Thurs. night. High ceilings make it noisier than average. The Halloween decorations were extensive. Someone put a lot of work into them. :-) There is free street parking after 6pm but those are hard to come by. Our server, Tom, was very attentive. We split the honey bbq boneless wings appetizer (on special before 7pm so they were only $6). They were good but inconsistent in size/shape. I ordered the chicken milanese. The chicken breast was HUGE. The arugula salad on top had olive oil, olives, peppers, parmesan cheese. My BF had the chicken caprese burger (which is not a burger at all since it's a grilled chicken breast). He said the sandwich was really good."
