  • "This is a great little restaurant with a very good wine list. They have partitions that can be opened or closed if other sections get noisy. There were no children the night we were there but the partitions would be helpful if there were. The menu is eclectic and creative. And the chef will make something special to suit your dietary needs, as was the case with us. We requested a specific drink and mixer when we scheduled our reservation and they had it ready for us when we ordered! The wait staff was excellent and "slowed things down" as requested during our evening. It's a pricey place so go with the understanding that a glass of wine can cost what an entrée is at another place."

From the lobster pancake, fois gras, and crawfish bisque, through the elk, lamb, and sea bass with truffled gnocchi, to the chocolate soufflé, and banana's Foster souffle, including the wine, limoncello, and coffee, each part of the dinner built to create a terrific dinning experience. The staff was knowledgable, attentive, and gracious. We had no idea how late it was. We were enjoying good food, good wine, and good friends and were not aware of the time. When we left, we realized that we were the last ones in the restaurant. Our car was waiting at the front door, but there had been no effort to rush us out. We have had very fine meals here, in the past. This one stood out as remarkable!"

We even have a vegetarian in our midst, and the restaurant made a delicious vegetable plate for him, with some gnocchi to die for. All in all we had a great time."

  • "Once again I bragged to my guest about having reservations at the best restaurant in town, and once again Erling Jensen delivered (in a big way!). Our meal last Saturday night could not have been better. From the atmosphere of the restaurant, uncrowded at 6pm, but hopping by 7:30pm, to the ultimate bottle of Chardonnay, to the incredible entrees (Monkfish for me / Scallops for her), to the chocolate soufflé to die for. Our server offered the perfect level of attentiveness without intrusion… and as we walked out the front door, rather than having to summon the valet, he magically had our car waiting. It just doesn't get any better than this. Do yourself a huge favor and take yourself to Erling Jensen's this weekend."

  • "We followed the advice of other reviewers and started our meal with the lobster pancake. We are lobster lovers and it was delicious! He ordered the kobe strip and I ordered the scallops--we both savored every bite! The wait staff was amazing and accommodated every special request--even when I asked them for a special dessert that was not on the menu (I did request it in advance). They really went over and beyond to make the night perfect! I would recommend Erling Jensen to anyone looking for a special night out. Best meal I've had in a while and well worth the price."

  • "This was my second "birthday occasion" visit to the restaurant, and I wondered if I would be as blown away with all aspects of the experience as I had been the first time I ate here. The second time did not disappoint; just reaffirmed that Erling Jensen is one of the most outstanding places I have ever dinned. Wonderful friendliest, and attention to every detail of the gustatory experience is addressed. Lovely surroundings, incredible food and service; my dinner companion and I were in diner's nirvana."

  • "Hands down, one of the BEST experiences I've ever had in Memphis...perhaps the entire state of TN! From the parking lot reception to parking lot departure, this place is first class. The wine list, the lobster and crab cake appetizers, the roasted fish, the steak that literally melted in my mouth....oh, did I mention the crab cake appetizer? We had to skip the dessert because of the meal selection. I travel for a living and have eaten at tons of restaurants, but there are only a handful that I truly remember....this one is part of that handful!"

  • "Erling Jensen The Restaurant is a real Memphis gem. We had dined there several years ago on New Year's Eve and had a wonderful time. We always planned on returning for more fun times and fantastic food and wine and did so for a special occasion. It's a great place for special occasions, but also a great place to hit a couple times per month for some exquisite fine food. The entire staff was very gracious and extremely professional. The server, Yana was impeccable. Very knowledgeable about all the food and all the wines we considered. The interior is beautifully decorated with incredible original artwork. A true feast for the eyes and taste buds!"

  • "I was so glad we were able to go to Erling Jensen. This was my first experience at the restaurant and will not be my last. I usually don't venture far from salmon but tried the sea bass and it was spectacular. The taste was through the entire fish and the gnocchi was a great complement. My sweetie had the buffalo tenderloin which was just as great. We will most certainly be returning."

  • "Erling Jensen was the perfect spot for belated Valentine's Day dinner. The staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. The food was fabulous - we had crab cakes, bison, scallops, chocolate cake, and cheesecake. The servings were just enough and the presentation was beautiful. The little extras were such a nice little treat - a tiny smoked salmon croquette before the meal, sorbet after the appetizer, and 2 little macadamia nut cookies came to the table with our check. This will definitely be a night to remember and we will be back :)"

We started with the lump jumbo crabmeat with hollandaise and opted to add the caviar (could have done without the spoonful of caviar because it was so delicious without). The. We split the Oyster salad, and I had the Buffalo tenderloin with lobster béarnaise - might have been the best meal I've ever had!our total bill with wine was $200 for 2 so great for a special occasion. The atmosphere was quiet and quaint - very romantic - definitely recommend without a doubt!"

  • "So we have been to the bar, we have sat in the dining room, last spring we even sat on the patio. WOW is what I have to say. Last time we were in the was some noise from so other parties, but we looked at it as others having a good time. The food more than made up for any distraction they may have caused. Shortribs...OMG, Scallops awesome. Anyone not seeing this place as a gem is off their rocker. Look for Erling, he usually greets us at the door!!! Nice touch"

Erling Jensen one memphis top chefs messed up Friday night We came with a VIP and had to return the dinner twice and the second returned when we were all done it looked like it was cooked in a microwave and the server gave the wrong dinner to the wrong person, You lost control of your team. You should consider a consultant !"

  • "We took my parents to Erling for their anniversary and the food was outstanding. On the other hand our server was not what you would expect at a fine dining restaurant. The reason I say this is that he insulted the entire table when going over the menu by telling us it was ok if we couldn't pronounce the "big" words. I also got a bottle of wine to share with my wife and he proceeded to give me all the wine and poured her the small amount that was left when her meal came I would still highly recommend this restaurant to anymore, but I think they need to more selective about who they hire to wait tables there."

  • "The entire experience was delightful...upon valet parking the car, we were quickly greeted and seated. Culinary pioneer Erling Jensen was quick to offer his thanks and was a welcome presence in the restaurant throughout our meal. Allow your wait person to suggest when to share. Several of the appetizers are huge. We shared the main course sized Lobster Pancake starter. The Spinach salad was delicious (again a meal in itself) and consider sharing. The bride loved the asparagus salad...ample as a meal. The Wagyu Kobe style strip, washed down with a generous glass of Northstar Merlot, was well prepared and the John Dory's blend of seasoning paired delightfully with a glass of Eroica Reisling."

We have found some great restaurants: Flight, Iris, Bari...but I think we have found our favorite in Erling Jensen. The service was outstanding - on the spot, but not bothersome; professional, but not snooty. The food cannot be described as anything but outstanding! The atmosphere was dressy, but not stiff and uncomfortable. Don't take my word for it - just go!"
