They were extremely busy. We didn't get seated for an hour past our reservation. When we got there they said 20 minutes we went to check after 20 minutes and were told it would be another 20 minutes. Our waiter seemed to forget about us. The food wasn't that great. We didn't get a steak so maybe if we had it would have been better as this is a steak place. I was here a few years ago and it was better.

I love Erie Cafe and try to go there whenever time permits, especially during the summer months. My last experience was not so great as I was seated next to some folks outdoors smoking smelly cigars. If you are serious about food, you don't want smoke with every bite. Some restaurants ban smoking from patios, which is great. I think at the least you should separate the smokers from the non. I love the food and the fresh preparation.

Have been coming to Erie Café with clients, family and friends for years - consistently excellent service and food. Professional wait staff help make the meal very enjoyable. I love that it's off the beaten path a bit. Enjoy the outdoor area in the summer/fall months, great place to have a drink, enjoy some nice city views. I've never been disappointed with Erie Café!

The ambience is lovely. The service was great as was the wine (at very reasonable price points). My husband's steak was great, the stuffed clams were delicious. Sadly my veal marsala and side of pasta with marinara was lacking in taste. Stick with the steak choices and you will have a great meal.

I love this place, but I have to point out the patio experience we had. The petite filet mignon special with shrimp was amazing-the steak cooked to perfection! I often have to send back my steak at other steakhouses for further cooking, but never here! I don't usually write reviews, but people should know that if they sit on the outdoor patio (which I truly have enjoyed in the past), it has been overtaken by groups smoking cigars and couples out with their dogs. I love dogs, have one of my own, but I prefer to go on dates without her! It is in my opinion that cigar smoking shouldn't be allowed at outdoor patios where others are dining. I will go back, but I will only go when the weather is bad and I HAVE to sit indoors.

While Chicago has many very good steak and Italian food restaurants, only a handful are exceptional and Erie Café is one of the exceptional ones. From the moment you arrive to when you leave, it is a great experience where your absolute enjoyment of the food, beverages and service is the only thing on the mind of the staff and chefs. The steaks are prime cut and the pasta is homemade. The barmen make a good pour and great cocktails and the people watching is fabulous. The wait staff is fantastic without being obtrusive. My "go to" place whenever I'm in Chicago.

We had a delicious meal at Erie Street Cafe. The steaks were excellent and the sides too! It has a very neighborhood feel in the restaurant and the outdoor seating overlooks the river, which is a nice plus when the weather is nice (and you can get the first-come, first-serve seating there!). The wait staff is very attentive without being in the way. Great spot!

We would have liked to sit outside on the river, but it started raining just as we arrived; no matter, indoor dining area was old-fashioned and nice. Our server was awesome. The antipasto platter was traditional, but I still found it a bit lacking...maybe too basic. They were out of the special that night that my SO was super looking forward to; he ended up getting something else that was more expensive and I was a bit surprised that they didn't comp the difference between the special and what he ended up ordering. Either way, his steak was perfect. I'm veg so ordered the ravioli and it was super cheesy and delicious. Coffee offered after dinner. Timing on everything was perfect. Felt super relaxed and enjoyed our dinner out immensely.

We frequent Erie Cafe many times a month and always keep coming back for more. The seafood is delicious and fresh while the Prime Rib is outstanding. I would argue to say the best in the city. Since we heard that Erie Cafe only serves a limited amount of prime rib each night we even make it a point to get there early to guarantee we get a slice! Its cooked to perfection! If you want to go to a hidden neighborhood restaurant with GREAT food and a friendly staff go to Erie Cafe.

My husband and I decided to go to the Erie Cafe on our last night in Chicago (from LA area). We asked a few locals which steak house they recommended, because we didn't want to end up at an overpriced, tourist trap. Well, we are so happy they recommended Erie's! We ordered grilled calamari to start that was prepared to perfection! The calamari had a slight smokey taste and were not "rubbery" at all. For our main course we ordered two ribeye steaks (bone in), sautéed spinach and asparagus. We were both ASTONISHED when they came out because they were enormous! However, they were both cooked exactly the way we ordered them. Additionally, the meat melted in our mouths! The sides were great too, but the steaks were amazing! The service ROCKED!

I hesitate to write this, because I want it to stay a nice, quiet lunch spot, but I love going to Erie Cafe for lunch! It's usually not too busy, but the staff is amazingly attentive (the service is great, no matter the time of day). Perfect for a business lunch and nice for non-business reasons, too. The lunch portions are generous - I find myself ordering the old-school cobb salad often, but the grilled calamari is really unique and delicious. The burger is also a great option. If there's something that you like on the dinner menu that's not available on the lunch menu, just ask - they will generally accommodate the request if they can. I also enjoy Erie Cafe for dinner, but I really feel like the lunch option is great!

My friends suggested me meet at the Erie Cafe. The food was OK. I think steakhouses like this are generally way overpriced, so I try to find something more reasonable like pasta or chicken. The food was not really special. I won't plan to go back.

After reading the other reviews, I thought this steak would knock my socks off. It was good but not great. House salad was average. Service was very good, and the noise level and ambiance was pleasant. I was disappointed and would not go out of my way to return. Maybe if I lived in the hood, it's convenient, but not worth going out of your way for.

Unfortunately were seated at a table near the front and the bar. Everyone was drunk off their rockers. They were literally scream talking to each other at the tables and to people at the bar. This is all fine if they were not serving normal dining guests. It was just awful to watch and hear such absurdity. We ordered lamb chops medium rare and they came out well, well, dried out done. Sent them back and the new ones finally came out after the other diner was finished with the meal. We ordered asparagus and spinach came out. The server said they were out of what we ordered so they sent out something else. What? Really? Ask what I'd like instead. Overall avoid this place late night unless you want to watch young trixies pick up old men! Sad.

We eat at Erie Street often and the reason is the food is always good and the service even better. If you are looking for a great meal, without all the hoop la, this is the place. Old fashioned hospitality, service by an experienced waitstaff who go out of their way to help you celebrate special occasions. This meal we celebrated a graduation and besides putting decorations on the table for us, they happily used our plates and napkins then served and cut the cake for us.
