Diner Reviews
  • "Food is great! Quiet location at the end of Erie. Sat a group of ten with no problem. Noise level was perfect for us to discuss business. We were all able to participate in the same conversation! Wait staff is knowledgable, friendly, and patient. Has a great business casual feel which is neither stuffy nor dumpy. Would defiantly eat here again for business and personal occasions."

  • "Erie Cafe is a Chicago institution and the quality of food and service is always great. We ate there for lunch his time round - arrived at 11:30 on a Wednesday so was still quiet, but was pretty busy by 1PM when we left. There were 5 in our party and the food all came together - and hot!"

  • "Erie Cafe is a hidden gem and should be on every foodies restaurant list. Excellent service with great attention to detail. Amazing prime rib, Colorado lamb chops cooked to perfection. Huge portions with plenty left for the next day. We highly recommend Erie for all carnivores you will not be disappointed!"

  • "We love this restaurant. We shared a shrimp cocktail that was delicious. We both ordered veal that was so outstanding. Mine was the marsala and my husband's was veal with peppers and mushrooms. We also enjoyed some very nice cocktails. Our waiter was very attentive and nice. We look forward to warmer weather so we can enjoy their beautiful patio. Bon appetite."

  • "I frequent fine dining places for work and personal regularly. I must say out of all the places that i have been in and around Chicago, this was the worst. The the food was well over priced for the quality and how it was prepared. All in all this place isnt worth your time or your money. There are many other restaurants with better ambiances and food."

  • "Great service, steak lacked flavor for the price. Waiter made sure we were really happy. Soup and appetizer was awesome!! Need to add flavor to steaks, but service was outstanding. Not worth the price. This was suppose to be a very special dinner for us. Turns out we paid ALOT of money for awesome service and very plain steaks. I might not be an expert on steaks but when you pay this price I would expect a steak that has some flavor other than meat. But once again out waiter was excellent."

  • "I have eaten here many times and eventhough the food was great as it always is. The server totally ignored my wife and myself. I went to go look on their website to send a complaint but there isn't any area for feedback. For the money you pay to eat here you can find food just as good with much better treatment. My wife felt as if our server was prejudice."

  • "I am new to Chicago and wanted a good place to get a steak dinner. I co-worker recommended the Erie Cafe and told me that if I didn't like it he'd pay for the meal. I have been to Steak Houses around the country and in Australia and have had some pretty awesome Steak. I ordered the Rib Eye and OMG what a great tasting and flavorful and was totally blown away. I was extremely happy with the food, the service and the atmosphere. Oh and by the way, I paid for dinner... It was well worth it."

  • "We had a large group of 20 here for a birthday party. they treated us like royalty and everyone loved the food! I plan to entertain here in the future. What a fantastic spot and service (Boz) is perfect!!"

  • "Had a business dinner here and they could not have taken better care of us! Boz has to be the best server in the city of Chicago. Loved every minute of it and for sure plan to return. If you have not been check it out! Not just steaks either all food is great!"

  • "In the summer, the outside dining is beautiful in the gazebo overlooking the river and the passing boats. The food is consistently spot on..great for meat lovers. The service is sometimes slow which can easily ruin an expensive dinner. I recommend going on a less busy night for better service."

  • "We ordered T-Bone and Bone-in Ribeye for dinner. Awesome, with enough left over for a few more meals. Decent but not spectacular wine list."

  • "Very little flavor on the steaks. Calamari was fishy. Waiter barely spoke English."

  • "First time dining there and i can't believe how great the food and the whole experience was. Old school service and atmosphere. Soon to be the next place where it will be impossible to get in."

  • "Great location on the Chicago River. This is a timeless place with a warm nostalgic atmosphere featuring a Classic Italian- Steakhouse menu. The food is consistently excellent and the service was perfectly attentive but not intrusive. Come to the Erie Cafe for a relaxing meal with friends and family, or host a business power meal, the Erie Cafe is perfect for both."

  • "We've been coming here for 20 years and once again we experienced attentive service and a delicious meal. Our only complaint was the iceberg lettuce salads were unimaginative. Other courses more than made up for that. The grilled calamari comes in a delectable, truly memorable sauce. Pepper steak is 3 filets, the best in the city. Chicken Vesuvio is done just right, and not too saucy like other places. And to top it off, the tira misu was perfectly light but satisfying."

  • "I was a little skeptical of Erie Cafe originally. All that skepticism was gone immediately. We had called to change our reservations from 9 pm to 8 pm the day before. When we arrived at 7:45 we were told our reservation had not been changed and are still at 9 pm. The gentleman checking people in had us sit at the bar and within 5 mins had us a table by the fireplace!! Impressive Sir!! Our server knew the menu without missing a note. I ordered a Dirty Martini and my fiance had a Jack and Coke and our food! Her Fillet was cooked perfectly nice char-crust and perfect medium rare all the way through! I had THE BEST BONE IN RIBEYE I have ever laid a knife too! Cooked perfectly, Amazing Char-crust with Rare all the way through!! Impressive!"

  • "Food came out sizzling, which would be great- except the salads hadn't even arrived. So the fresh food gets taken back, salads brought out, then same, now lukewarm, food brought back. Also, we went an average of 30 minutes or so before seeing our server between every visit. This place is good at one time- when it isn't busy. When there's a crowd, forget about it."

  • "If u like fish this is a good place to come. The Chilean sea bass was delicious! My husband had a bone-in ribeye and he said it was delicious. The waiter never Told us baked potatoes were available but I did see someone eating one. I also had asparagus, my husband had broccoli and fried potato Over-all food was good! Wish they had shrimp appetizers or stuffed mushrooms. I would recommend this restUrNt and come here again. Service was good and professional"

  • "Excellent experience. Felt like they cared more about service and food than presentation and flash. Asked the bar tender for a drink menu and he responded that he can make anything, what do we want? Excellent steak. Huge place. I'd want to sit in front next time."

  • "This place was highly recommended through a good friend. Thought I give it a try with my boyfriend. Very friendly and welcoming us. My friend and her husband came with and told us about the Prime Rib which I don't eat, they totally enjoyed it. Filling and a large amount was given. I on the other hand had fish which was great and fresh. The only thing is that the salad didn't have any flavor to it. Very boring and we didn't finish it as my boyfriend didn't say anything until the next day about the salad so we felt the same way. Peas with Onions, way too many onions. And also the pototoe chips had no flavor to it. Wish it did. Service was good. Dessert was Key Lime Pie. Very bitter but it was good otherwise."

  • "I was so looking forward to going to the Erie Café because I had never been there and it looked charming on their website. I was very disappointed. They ran out of their prime rib special at 7:00 p.m. because, we were told, they had a table of eight who ordered all of the specials. What steak restaurant orders only eight specials on a Saturday night? If the food was exceptional, I might overlook the extremely rude waiter who unfortunately had our table for two. My guess is he felt that he was stuck with just a table of two when the others had larger groups, but I don't know for sure. The wine list was good, so at least we had that going for us."

  • "My girlfriends and I were quite excited to try Erie Cafe after hearing good reviews. The food was delicious, however, the service was so poor it completely ruined the dining experience. We went on a Sunday night, which was not crowded at all and it took about 15 minutes before a waiter even came over to greet us and take our drink orders. We ordered an appetizer and after a while, asked if it would be coming out soon, he said yes, it should be out shortly, only to return a few minutes later asking what appetizer we ordered and then saying he'll immediately put that in. I definitely will not be going there again or recommending it to anyone, unfortunately, because the food was good."

  • "I've been to many steakhouses in Chicago, but I find Erie Cafe ti be at the top of my list. I had the bone in rib eye. It was a huge piece of meat perfectly cooked, and the meal included either soup or salad. The free valet parking is a great benefit as well. My wife had a filet, again perfectly prepared to her request. When I think about steak, my first thought is Erie Cafe!"
