  • "We had an incredible dinner experience! We were celebrating the birthday of my childhood best friend, and we could not have asked for more! From the moment we walked in the door, we were made to feel like the restaurant was celebrating right along with us. The amuse bouche was so tasty, our appetizers were scrumptious - above expectation - and the entrees were delicious and cooked perfectly! We couldn't have asked for much more, and then came the dessert… I'm not sure how one dreams of that many ways to cook cherries, but thank goodness for the chef's insight and creativity!! All of this, coupled with knowledgable and attentive service, made this a dining destination spot for us!! Thanks for a great birthday dinner!!"

  • "Todd Gray and his loyal staff operate an excellent restaurant that keeps up with the times. The menu is interesting and features the products of local farmers. The design of the restaurant is interesting as well--a more formal space inside, also a covered atrium and a real outside plaza. The bar is medium size with chairs and tables. You can dine simply here or have a very grand chef's menu. We especially like his high and pasta."

  • "I was a fan of the vegan brunch at Muse but am an even bigger fan now that it has moved to Equinox. I have taken my parents and my in laws, all four are meat eaters, here and they all loved it! They did not miss the meat, egg or dairy one bit. The food is that amazing. Todd and Ellen are also so personable and nice. Their presence and positive attitude make me want to visit even more often. Thank you for another wonderful dining experience!!"

  • "We ate here on a Saturday night around 7:30 pm. We were very suprised that the place was empty as the resturant came highly recommended. The food was fantastic! Fesh, seasonal selections that left us wanting more. The service was outstanding as well. My wife made it a point to tell the manager how much we were impressed by the wait staff. The drink menu matched the menu offering several seasonal cocktails that paired perfectly with our meal. We sat outside at a perfectly arranged seating area that allowed us to watch the evening fall to night. We had a wonderful time and will recommend Equinox to anyone who asks."

  • "With all the hype on new chefs and restaurants we need to remember why some of the established places deserve our full attention and support. Equinox provides superb food, outstanding service--thanks Randy, in a lovely ambience where you can have a conversation easily. The whitefish salad amuse bouche and truffled risotto croquettes were amazing, soft shell superb, halibut terrific, great bread. wine delicious. 4 Stars from us!"

  • " Now that DC's restaurant scene has taken shape as one of the most vibrant and exciting in the country, the role of Todd Grey and Equinox in making that happen is even clearer. This was one of the first to turn farm-fresh into gourmet dining. And rather than resting on its laurels Equinox gets better all the time. The great food combined with a friendly and competent staff make this one of the DC greats. (And the vegetable plate is not to be missed.)"

  • "I have to say that the food was definitely good with the exception of my girl-friend's Salmon. It was just bland and I jokingly said to her that it looked like there was ketchup on it. The sauce actually ended up tasting like hot ketchup. But the salmon was just not very flavorful in both of our opinion. My NY sirloin was very good and tasty, but a bit overcooked for the way I had asked (medium). Overall, the experience was good, but I don't think we'd go back. There was just nothing special about the food or the experience to warrant another visit."

  • "Equinox is an intimate NW DC restaurant open for lunch and dinner providing outstanding food with excellent service. The restaurant has an open sidewalk section which is very pleasant as well as an enclosed sidewalk section and an interior section. The bar is small and intimate. The menu selection is modest but each of the items is prepared with great care and is fit for foodies."

  • "We were looking for a fine dining restaurant that served vegan food and found Equinox. We were quite pleased with Chef Gray's Vegan Tasting multi-course meal. Each course was paired with a different wine. All dishes served, as well as the wine selections, were excellent! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. My family and I highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return."

  • "Equinox was everything I thought it would be, and more. From the minute we walked in the door to the gracious farewell by the Chef de Cuisine (Colin McClimons), we enjoyed a 5-star experience. The duck was incredible, as was the chocolate torte. Beautiful wine pairings recommended by a very knowledgeable staff, who catered to our every need. I'll definitely be back!"

  • "My husband and I had a great dinner at Equinox. The food was really interesting and inventive, we chose the tasting menu with matched wines. However, the overall experience was let down by front of house staff, we were served by several different people and so they lost track of whether we were drinking sparkling or tap water, what course we were on, my husband is left-handed and they kept putting the cutlery the wrong way around etc. No one asked us about our experience they just kept bringing out dishes. So food great but need top notch staff to move this restaurant to the next level."

The waiter, who may have been overwhelmed) forgot about us and it took too long to get the main course, then the check."

  • "A nice restaurant located in a business area in downtown DC. Good place for a power lunch or dinner and special occasions. The decor is modern and understated. Service is stellar and the food is very good. We first dined on a compliments of the chef beef tartar, which was excellent. We split the Shaved Fennel and Cucumber Salad with Salanova Lettuce, which was plenty for two and very good. The diver scallops with baby squash was excellent but found the shrimp toast a bit much for the already rich dish. The duck was good but over cooked for our liking. We had asked for medium rare and it was on the other side of medium. Dessert...oh...dessert. They saved the best for last. The Meyer Lemon “Posset” is to die for!"

  • "I booked Equinox for the outdoor dining opportunity but it turned out we couldn't use that space and ended up inside. Honestly I wouldn't have chosen it if I'd known. The food is good but pricey. The best thing is the really excellent coffee. Our waiter was excellent but the food took forever to arrive. At lunchtime this is particularly bad. Overall we had a nice experience but i don't think I would book again."

  • "Wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. Food was above average, but not great. Had a couple of the appetizers the truffle risotto balls were yummy but the cheese puffs were bland. Arugula salad fresh, but slightly overdressed. The fusilli veg pasta was just ok. The fresh vegetables gave it a great crunch, but the noodles were a little over done and the sauce was lacking in flavor. Service was excellent, but our outside dining was unpleasant due to some strange sewer smell that kept wafting our way."

  • "I took my out-of-town parents here to celebrate a big wedding anniversary. The atmosphere was appropriate for the occasion, and my parents appreciated the quiet noise level and lack of crowding in the dining area. The food was excellent all around. I had the muscovy duck breast and confit leg, and it was cooked perfectly. Our server noticed the card that we gave our parents and inquired as to the occasion. She informed Chef Grey, and he sent several complimentary items to the table during our meal, and, without our request, had "Happy Anniversary" in put in chocolate on my parents' dessert plate. These gestures really completed the experience, especially for my parents. They are sure to request a return trip the next time they are in DC."

  • "I hadn't been to Equinox since the renovation after reading a number of negative reviews about a former chef. I think they hit a home run with the new chef....my ahi tuna was out of this world. A side of asparagus with quail egg and pickled mustard seed was the perfect addition for a nice spring evening meal. Vibrant greens and yellows with terrific complementary flavors and textures. Skip the gruyere cheese gougères...comfort food like that should be impossible to put down, yet it was just meh. The server was hilarious and personable. Great recommendations. The outdoor dining is nice once the traffic dies down. Location is great for a stroll around the White House/Lafayette Square afterwards."

We were going to be there for a while and our server gave us the right amount of space and time to have a well-paced meal with minimal interruption. We each had the arugula salad to start. Mains were scallops for me and halibut for them. We both cleaned out plates. The server's dessert recommendation was a perfect ending. "

  • "This used to be a fine restaurant, but somehow it has lost its way. The quality of the food is uneven. Four of us had dinner; three of us ordered duck. The duck was generally tasteless and far too chewy. Three of us also ordered an appetizer of artichokes and grilled mushrooms -- we had to search to find the artichokes and the grilled mushrooms were bland, with a bland frisee salad taking up most of the plate. This is the second time we have had a poor experience here; we are unlikely to return."

  • "We went for a three generation dinner, with a grandmother who often is uncomfortable with the noise level in restaurants. She found the old fashioned, elegant, soothing decor, of the place to be just perfect and was very happy with the meal. We all thought the food was good, but most important grandma was happy with everything. Would we come back without her? Probably not, but we would definitely bring her again if looking for a nice, relaxing dinner out."

Had reservations but had no table ready and then they wanted to put us next to entry door even though lots of empty spaces and we had asked for quiet table for birthday celebration when we booked. The front house staff paid no attention to any of this. Thankfully the food and waiter was great! "

  • "Went to Equinox for the first time for a birthday dinner and it was wonderful. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I had scallops that were cooked perfectly and very fresh tasting. One of the people at the table had whole wheat pappardelle with short rib bolognese that I would love to be able to make it was so good. I have always wanted to go to Equinox and was happy I finally was able to eat there. Would definitely go back for another meal - either lunch or dinner. "

  • "The experience was very mixed. The food was good, but despite a very small crowd that night it took an inordinately long time to be served. The service was odd to say the least, and particularly off-putting was when one of the staff stod at the entrance to the dining room and cracked his neck. Apparenlty the small crowd of diners that night led the staff to adopt a less than professional attitude. "

  • "By Washington, D.C. standards, Equinox is a fine restaurant: central location, attentive service, pleasant surroundings, and good food. There is nothing about the evening I recently spent there with friends that I would fault, except a disconnect between the quality of the experience and the eye-popping size of the bill. Not even a perfectly cooked square of salmon--a truly diminutive portion--is worth $30; nor is a pretty but not at all exceptional dinner salad worth $12. I assume the restaurant caters to an after-work, downtown crowd. It's not the sort of place I would go for a romantic evening or a special occasion. At a lower price-point, Equinox would be far more appealing. At its present prices, we don't plan to return. "

  • "Service is very attentive but not overbearing - nice not having to ask to have your beverage refilled. Smiling & informative wait staff. Food top notch and presented artfully - making it even more delicious. Asked for table in room overlooking outside since it was such a nice day, but informed tables (at least 6-8 were empty) were reserved. When we left an hour later (this was late lunch time) tables were still empty. Guess I should have 'comped' the hostess - my mistake. Overall a nice place and excellent food."
