Diner Reviews
  • "Epsilon is an excellent restaurant. Very good selection of Greek entrees. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our food ranging from vegetarian to meat dishes. Service was outstanding as well."

  • "We enjoyed the meal, the attentive service, a few new ways the chef prepares our Greek favorites! A pleasurable dining experience."

  • "I have never found another place that matches the authenticity of the food here. I did not mark it as kid-friendly because they do not have a kid's menu; however, the staff was more than willing to make recommendations that kids may like as well as make adjustments to their dishes if necessary. The restaurant is very open and may become loud when crowded. My family and I went early in the evening, so we had the place to ourselves. The main crowd starts to arrive around 7:00 pm. Every time I visit Monterey, CA I eat dinner at Epsilon! I used to live in Monterey and ate dinner at Epsilon on a regular basis."

  • "This place needs some serious work in terms of decor. And, the food was similarly "monochromatic", lacking in depth and any distinction."

  • "this is a great Greek restaurant close to the wharf and the downtown area. It's small and full of tables and busy... all good signs of a great find. It was a little hard to talk, but that was okay. The food and staff more than made up for it and I would recommend it."

  • "The service was spectacular, right from the greeting at the front door though the good-bye at the end of the end of the evening. And the food was really fantastic. My wife had the gyros (enough for two or three) and I had the tenderloin beef shishkebob which melted in my mouth. The rice with a hint of cinnamon and raisins was a unique but wonderful surprise. I cannot wait to go back the next time we visit Monterey."

  • "We found Epsilon online and wanted to eat in downtown after many years visiting Pacific Grove. Epsilon was a pleasant surprise with good service and wonderful food. It's just one block off the old main street of Monterey and is family owned. The food was excellent and they have a number of small plate appetizers."

  • "First 'Greek' restaurant dining experience. This is a family owned restaurant. Enjoyed meeting the owner who made some nice menu recommendations for us to try. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxed the restaurant was neat and clean. No loud music to keep us from having a nice conversation. Seemed like a lot of the other diners were returning customers."

  • "Epsilon has be the special occasion restaurant for my wife and me for years. Downtown Monterey, short walk to Osio theater, wharf, shops. Dress is casual. Service is excellent but unobtrusive. Chris, our server last week knows the menu and wine list well, can be relied on for a good suggestion if you are not familiar with Greek food. On pleasant days there are two sidewalk bistro tables. Quiet enough to hear you dining partner without straining. Go. Eat. Enjoy!"

  • "One of our favorite restaurants in Monterey. Delicious food, Greek specialties (of course), generous portions. Good service, friendly staff. The owner always makes us feel special for allowing him to host us."

  • "The place is quite expensive however the food there is only OK. The kitchen is authentic, but it's not a restaurant food, it's more like workers cafeteria. The dishes come with huge portion of rice and beans so you'll feel your stomach, but it's so-so on the quality. The service is bad. We ordered several dishes and appetizers and on of the many we didn't like. The calamari were deep fried, and we couldn't eat them, but when I said it to the waiter he reacted as if they doesn't understand me and asked if someone else (not the person who ordered it) would like to box it!! No compensation, coffee, exchange - nothing! However the price would be similar to a good quality restaurant!"

  • "Big quantities. Food ok. cold peas even if they are served this wY in greece not a fan same on cold beans.Salads very very acidic- don't order. Dissapointed. Should have stayed in Carmel and returned to Demeter cafe on ocean. No reason to return here or recommend to try. Service good,"

  • "I've been travelling to Greece many times in my life and my neighbour owns a Greek restaurant so I know how Greek food has to be. They had a good Greek salad prior to the entree. Unfortunately some parts of the entrees were almost cold on every plate of our group. Moreover the Gyros was rather like Kebap meat, as it consisted of really thin slices instead of cubed meat, but it was tasty anyway. The other components of my mixed plate were quite good, except of the Greek rice. None of our entire group (6 people) liked it and it had nothing to do with Greek rice. No Greek would ever put cinnamon at his/her rice, and it was awful as it was also salted and the combination of spaced made it rather tasting like a salty desert."

  • "A friend and I had a great dinner at Epsilon the other evening. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing. All of the food was amazing and the portions are very generous. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Middle-Eastern food, or food in general."

  • "We love Greek food and were hoping for a wonderful experience. The restaurant is small and the wait staff are attentive. However, the food is just not that great. I had the lamb kabobs, which in my mind are a classic Greek dish, and the meat was tough and done from rare to medium, when I asked for medium rare. The rest of the meal was pretty unremarkable. We did not try dessert."

  • "Epsilon has wonderful food. Authentic Greek! Good service and good location. We stayed for a couple of hours.....laughing and chatting, and were never pressured to leave! It is an excellent restaurant. I've been many times over many years!"

  • "I've walked by this restaurant numerous times and finally decided to try it. It's small and intimate - good for date night or a relaxing evening with a friend. My friend and I both had the spanakopita and it was good enough to make a meal in itself. My kabobs were cooked just right and flavored well. Tasty sides, too. Our waitress forgot our bread until halfway through our meal and was not appropriately attentive throughout. Perhaps understaffing was the issue. In any case, will give this restaurant another try at some point because everyone deserves a second chance and the food is good."

  • "Excellent food and outstanding service for 12 seniors asking for separate checks... We were celebrating a birthday and they adorned the table and gave the birthday diner a delightful complementary dessert."

  • "If you love Greek food, you'll enjoy this restaurant whose food if very down home Greek."

  • "The best part of this meal was the dip they served with the bread - garlicky and amazing. I ordered the Greek salad and calamari for dinner which is just what I was craving. The salad was great. The calamari was different than anything I have had before - it was almost fried like a wonton - but it was good."

  • "The food was decent, the servers were nice but rushed us to make a menu choice. The restaurant decor is way out of date with plastic flowers hanging from the ceiling. Time for an update to the decorations."
    Dined on 9/21/2013
  • "The lamb Kabob was great, but the combination platter was disappointing. It looked like the non-grilled items were all a few days old, so all 4 of us just had the kabob and hardly anything else. They give you a huge plate of not so great side dishes."

  • "We visited Monterey recently from San Diego and found this wonderful restaurant that serves very good Greek food. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and the menu is great. Our friend had lamb which was the best he ever had. I had the salmon which was delicious. The rice was also very unique and delicious. We look forward to returning to this gem in downtown Monterey."

  • "We made a visit to Monterey and Yelped some good eats. Epsilon had some good reviews, so we thought we'd check it out. Simply amazing. Despite no one being near the door just as we were about to walk in, someone saw us and rushed over to welcome us in with a smile. Window seat, informative and funny waiter, food to satisfy every corner of your stomach. All in all the dinner set us back $50. Pretty reasonable considering the size of the salad, the entrée, the baklava, the coffee- we had leftovers for the next day. Next time we're down there, we'll definitely be stopping in."

  • "Went on a Wednesday night. There were only another couple dinning. Restaurant is quiet, simple decoration. Food is good and the portion is huge. The entree comes with vegetable and starch. We were so full that we could not try and dessert."

  • "After having a less than mediocre lunch at a pasta place near the Aquarium, we were in search for something tasty and reasonable. After nosing around a number of websites we came across Epsilon on Open Table. All of the reviews were outstanding and many included rave reviews from families with kids. It was within walking distance from our hotel so we decided to give it a try. Not only were we welcomed warmly, but everyone one was attentive and friendly throughout our dining experience. We have and will continue to recommend Epsilon to those we think will appreciate the fine Greek food they serve....in fact we recommended it to some diners we met at Tommaso's in San Francisco. We have a picky eater and he tried six new foods!"

  • "Wonderful food. The avgolemono sauce on the dolma was perfect. Portions are somewhat large. Ambience was just like a small European bistro."

  • "We had a great dinner at this local restaurant. We were with our 3 kids and wanted a place that wasn't full of other tourists. Turned out that this restaurant was walking distance from where we were staying - Portola Hotel. The servers were friendly, the menu was full of choices (including kids items) and the food was delicious! The Bakhlava is a must since it is not too sweet. We enjoyed it and our kids did too! If we are ever back in Monterrey, we will definitely dine there again."
