Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is outstanding. Beautiful view of the Bay Bridge, esp. at night. HUMONGOUS steaks, good selection of other food items, sides, desserts, wines, etc. PRICEY, but worth it. I highly recommend."

  • "The restaurant was practically empty, so the noise level was minimal and service was quick. We were a party of three and all ordered a hamburger, each requesting different levels of doneness - rare, medium rare and medium - and they all were cooked the same! I thought the French fries were dry and tasked like they had been frozen. I don't think I'll be rushing back to try again."

  • "The view is incomparable – my advice is position yourself upstairs in the bar to experience it. The service was better upstairs… we regretted moving downstairs all night long. Avoid the corn side dish – so salty it bordered on inedible. The meat and potatoes were prepared well, overall we are happy we visited."

  • "Just dined here for my husband's 40th birthday - gorgeous view, exceptional service, and amazing food. It couldn't have been more perfect."

  • "The service at Epic has always been the reason my wife and myself have always returned time after time. This time we were both quite disappointed. I made it known that we were celebrating my wife's birthday and absolutely zero mention of it. A side she ordered was forgotten. We have been going to Epic since it first opened and the service has always been impeccable. this time it was an Epic fail. To be fair, the food as always was outstanding. The outdoor patio offers the quintessential San Francisco experience. I just hope that the bad service was a fluke experience this one time."

  • "There is absolutely nothing special or outstanding about the food. Yes it is very very good but nothing that would make it stand out from the crowed of other upper stake house. We found it extremely noise, it was hard to carry a conversation with someone over the ambient noise. For me the noise level took away any chance of making this a restaurant for a romantic dinner or a place to celebrate a special occasion. I would not go back. I prefer Morton's or Ruth's Chris Steak House."

  • "We celebrated a friend's Birthday at the Epic and it was incredible. Incredible food, service and ambience!"

  • "I enjoyed the great Bay Bridge view at this classy, upscale and modern steakhouse, but the service was very slow, with a lot of dead time and diners looking for the waiters. Too slow, for a business lunch."

  • "After reading about their Wagyu beef burger with lobster on top, we wanted to try it. The burger was perfectly done and the half lobster, which is an add on to the burger came on a separate plate ( you can also request that it be shelled first) with drawn butter. So if you dip the lobster in the drawn butter before putting it on the burger, it makes the burger so moist and tastety. We had a dog with us, so we sat on the patio outside, with a breathtaking view of the SF Bay and the Bay Bridge. Service was very nice. Drinks and coffee were excellent too. We would definitely go back."

  • "Overall Epic is a great spot to dine. The food was delicious (I had the filet mignon-cooked to perfection and so tender! My boyfriend had the corte de boeuf which he said was amazing!) and the restaurant has great decor and a beautiful view! The drinks were great as well! I'd like to go back to try their breakfast!"

  • "This restaurant was perfect to celebrate our wedding anniversary with the view, attention to detail by the waiting staff, and extra mile service in recommendation of places to go onto!"

  • "I'm spoiled having grown up eating Montana beef, the Rib Eye I had was one of the best steaks I've every eaten. Requested medium rare, cooked to perfection. The oysters were a perfect start, followed by gathered green salad. The salad had thumb sized black berries that tasted like pure sugar and melted in the mouth. Paired the meal with a bottle of Duckhorn Merlot, every sip was like velvet. Our waiter was perfect for me, professional, knowledgeable about everything on the menu, not chatty, didn't stop by and ask unhelpful questions like; "Is everything all right?" He had glasses filled without asking, balanced the wine between me and my guest quietly without asking, perfect balance of great service without being in my face all night."

  • "This food was good but I would not catagorize it as great. Two of the steaks ordered at my table were over cooked - only on half of the steak. Not sure how they over cooked one half and the other was fine. They must have a hot spot on the grill. Service was good but I thought the restaurant was a bit noisy. It was also very expensive."

  • "This is the 2nd time we have been to EPIC. The food is excellent...the make your own ice cream sundae to die for. Service is leisurely, staff attentive. Like that after you make a reservation, they confirm by email and phone."

  • "For a steak purist, this restaurant is not for you. If you would like outback style steak at premier steak restaurant prices, then this is your place. Ordered a filet medium and it had zero pink. My date ordered a prime rib medium rare and it was nearly well done."

  • "Don't miss the Epic Bloody Mary! The burger is the best -worth the splurge! Actually, everything I've tried there has been fantastic and I can be rather....picky!"

  • "All of the food was perfect. The steak was cooked perfectly. Staff attentive and timely."

  • "It's an interesting venue, with huge ducts and other metalwork suggesting the building was once a factory (is this faked for ambiance?). Service excellent, and the food is wonderful, with creative use of ingredients. Lots of steaks, but also other offerings, with info on where/how the fish were caught! However, the main diningroom is huge, and between the loud background music (not live) and the people trying to converse over it, very very noisy."

  • "The host wasn't that great and could not give us a table that I requested, manager suppose to come, talk to us rigt away and didn't come till we finish the dinner."

  • "The prefix brunch menu for $25.00 was a great bargain for 3 courses. We sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the views of the bay. Hopefully they takedown the large flat screen TVs throughout the restaurant when the World Cup is over. It was a little disconcerting sitting directly below one with everyone staring in yourdirectionwhenweate."

  • "Menu is a bit limited, steaks mostly and sides a la carte, some seafood apps and salads. Not a single chicken dish or many vegetarian options, but it is a roast house so can't complain about the vegetarian part (would appreciate some chicken though...)! Dessert sounded great (doughnut holes) but was dry and disappointing. They totally screwed up our birthday special occasion table reservation, were friendly and tried to fix it, but still disappointed that even with a reservation weeks ahead via OpenTable and confirmed by our hotel concierge, it was botched. Great ambiance though and views of Bay Bridge Lights cannot be beat."

  • "What a wonderful night. We had a table right under the Bay Bridge, which set the perfect tone for a romantic birthday evening. The steaks were terrific - some of the best we've ever had, and the suggested wines complemented them perfectly. The staff were excellent. We had a thoroughly enjoyable night and will be coming back."

  • "We've heard great things about this place and have wanted to give it a try for a while now. As it happened, after we were seated, a party of 4--with one toddler and one infant were placed at the table next to us. In my opinion, this is not a "kid-friendly" sort of place that you would bring children of this age bracket to. 7 yr. olds and up as part of say a special occasion like a grandparents birthday, I get. Bringing young ones like this who are screaming incessantly for their sippie cups-not so much. If I am going to fork out $260+ for dinner for two, I don't want to feel like I have to endure screaming children who are then put upon the floor to roll around while dad decides its an iPhone moment..."

  • "We took my dad out for a family celebration of his 80th birthday. We were given a beautiful table, and the staff was exceptionally friendly. Everybody came over to wish him a happy birthday, which made the evening all the more special. The food is top notch. The view is spectacular. I highly recommend Epic Roasthouse for special occasions. Also, I'd note that there were several Giants fans all decked out in their Giants gear who were enjoying a meal before walking down to the game. So, great place for a pre-game dinner, too!"

  • "This is the third time we have flown to SF to celebrate our wedding anniversary. With the amazing food, the consistently great service by our server, Dan and the fantastic view, what more do you need for a great evening out? The blue cheese topping on the Madeira sauce fillet was to die for! The sides we really enjoyed were the grilled broccolini and Julia Child's potatoes. We can't wait for our return!"

  • "Curb appeal, decor ambience were all there. Service was crisp and attentive on each level. The food was quite mediocre. The tuna tartare was sour and bitter without any liveliness. The limited span of menu choices forced each in our party to go with burgers; which arrived with dry stiff buns and way over-salted fries. The attempt at former ketchup also failed. Flat and starchy. Heinz would have been better. This place simply needs better execution on what should be solid menu winners"

  • "Epic Roasthouse is a great restaurant. It never disappoints. You get a scenic table overlooking the water and fantastic food. What more could you want from a restaurant. Sure, it's pricey, but it's delicious. If you love steaks, you'll love Epic Roasthouse. If you love great food, you'll love Epic Roasthouse. It's just terrific."

  • "Found this gem on the How About We...website. THE BEST Bloody Mary, hands down. The food was great too! Amber, our wait person was fantastic. She was energetic, friendly, she also suggested the best dessert- Build your own sundae! My wife and I will definitely be back!"

  • "This was our second dinner at Epic. We enjoyed our first visit, and decided to celebrate our anniversary with a return. We were very disappointed with the food. My husband ordered the petit filet mignon. It was so dry that he had to ask for au jus on the side -- it looked completely unappetizing on his plate, too. I ordered the small prime rib. It was cooked the way I had requested; however, it was lacking flavor. Even the horseradish dip was bland. The Julia Child potatoes were greasy, as were the sauteed mushrooms -- we left most of each. I'm sorry to be so negative about such a lovely restaurant, but the cost of the meal warranted this criticism. For that high price, we expect and request better quality."

  • "Epic did not always receive high marks from me but they are making good progress in improving their food, service and general dining experience. I have been quite pleased the last few times I visited. This restaurant is well worth a second look if you haven't eaten there recently."

  • "We had a late reservation (9:30 PM) on a Sunday, no less. It was my daughter's college graduation and we were running late. I called from the cab to let them know we were a bit late, and no worries. They let me know the kitchen would close, and all that....Anyway, we get there under the wire, and you would've never known. They treated us (10 top) like royalty. No hard feelings or excuses about how late it was...nothing. The staff was wonderful. I can't wait to try this wonderful place when they're aren't ready to close. Thanks Epic, which it was!"

  • "I've been meaning to try Epic Roasthouse and was so ecstatic when I saw it was participating on the Dine About Town Menu. We were seated outside with a spectacular view of the Bay and Bay Bridge. It was really nice weather for brunch so the setting was perfect, it was such a treat to have patio seating since it is such a rarity in the City. The Dine Abt Town menu consisted of brisket entree and arugula salad. The food was good, the presentation was nice, but it was not worth the prix fixe price of $19. My companion had ordered the crab eggs benedict and it was loaded with tons of crab meat. Again nothing to write home abt. The presentation to that dish was bland, I don't remember any thing else on the plate except for the food."

  • "We had a lovely lunch at Epic Roasthouse- service staff are exceptional , we had a window table , and the kitchen was able to accommodate our dining needs which included one with multiple allergies . I'm sure the view is even better at dinner with the Bay Bridge lights , but it was still a great dining experience at lunch"
