  • "We have a table for three ladies in a corner of this large irregular shaped restaurant for a breakfast that is part business meeting part networking occasion. As breakfast goes, the portion is HUGE as the omelets kept me going until 4:00 pm in the afternoon for a salad as my second meal of the day. The waiter had this warm and knowing smile throughout. The truth is it is my guest's birthday and I have ordered a surprise something for her when I reserved the table. But I totally forgot by the time we gathered at the table. Certainly the breakfast desert cask selection came as a surprise for both the host and guest and at no extra charge. Job well done. Epic and OpenTable."

  • "I brought my 87 year old aunt who liives out of town. She loved going back to the Royal York. I picked her up at the train and it was very convenient. Cobb salad for lunch was delicious. Service was very good and attentive. We went back for tea and it was very busy and nosier. But the staff were very accomodating and pleasant. Service was slower due to crowds. But still good. I like the convenience to train, Four Seasons, subway. Reliable."

  • "We love the idea that there is a rooftop garden where the herbs and the honey are cultivated for the restaurant's use. All is impeccable here, from the dining room ambiance to the open kitchen to the service. We were celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary and my husband's b-day. My only reservation about the experience is the error that was tabulated on our bill. We were charged for an extra glass of wine that we never had. I did bring this to the attention of our waiter and he promptly removed this from the bill. I know that this could have been a perfectly honest mistake (we were left feeling skeptical); still, if it was an honest mistake, it only further underlined the lack of attention given to this last part of our dinner experience."

  • "Entrée prices are not aligned with peer restaurants. Salmon portion was very small - less than Canada Food Guide portion size. Vegetables were not identifiable - sliced and diced beyond recognition - tasted flat. Cornish Hen Coq au Vin was bland. Dessert - 'locally inspired' petit fours - French Macaroons delicious, chocolates waxy, jellies 50% - one stale, one delightfully fresh Table service was prompt but no staff in sight at entrance desk with 3 reservation parties waiting. Pre tip: $157 for 2 entrees, 1 glass of wine, 1 dessert shared and 1 brewed coffee ---- seemed steep price to this patron who dines downtown every Thursday evening."

  • "We've been here before as I had certificates to use, we thought we'd give it another try. I was disappointed in the Filet and it's apparent this is not the place to go for a good steak. The steak was not cooked to the proper level of medium, it was rare. It also was also fairly tough and flavourless. Just not impressed. Appetizers were fantastic and the wine pairings we left to our waiter (sommelier) were exquisite. I would have been extremely disappointed if I was paying, but gift certificates eased the pain!"

  • "I choose Epic for dinner as I was staying at the Royal York and had eaten both breakfast and lunch there in the past and was impressed with the service, taste and presentation of my meals. We were celebrating our anniversary and our friend's birthday so we wanted something a bit special. The selection of salads, appetizers and entres were great, so there is something there for everyone. The highlight for me was the lamb shank and the finale - the kitchen brought us a trio of desserts and well wishes for our celebrations."

  • "The service at EPIC is wonderful. When making the reservation, I noted it was for our anniversary and requested a romantic table, if possible. On arriving, our hostess brought us to perhaps the only little secluded table in the restaurant, under a beautiful painting. Then the chef surprised us with a complimentary appetizer! My fiance and I both ordered the seafood chowder, which was delicious. I had seafood pasta for my main, which was also wonderful. My fiance had the lamb, which was just alright. The service throughout was amazing, with the staff being charming and calling us by name. Finally, we were surprised again with a special cheesecake dessert with "happy anniversary" on it. We were very impressed!"

  • "I went with a group of friends to Winterlicious! The staff are so wonderful and were able to accomodate for our extra person. The whole experience was amazing, from the food to the wine to the overall service. My friend from Thailand was thoroughly impressed! There was also a live jazz singer as well near the lounge, which added to the overall experience of the night. Overall, I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone! You won't be disappointed!"

  • "My husband and i enjoyed our first visit to the Epic restaurant. We both had seafood. My husband had mussels and I ordered the salmon. Both selections were done as ordered and tasted very good. We enjoyed the ambiance, friendliness of the staff and that we could carry on a normal conversation without excessive background music"

  • "I would give Epic a qualified Yes for Winterlicious but note - you are asked at the desk if you are here for Winterlicious and that seemed to instantly relegate us to a table in the back. Service was pleasant and the food was decent - although the look on a colleague's face when our appetizer of beets and burrata arrived rather said it all. Two tiny (and I do mean tiny) mouthfuls of beets with a spoonful of burrata and a sprig of watercress was closer to an amuse-bouche than an appetizer. Two of us had the ravioli which was tasty but barely lukewarm - the chicken was fine but nothing to rave about. Desserts were good and at least allowed the meal to end on a high note. You are paying for the venue not the food."

  • "My wife and I have had good experiences at Epic before, the last time this New Year's Eve. On the evening of Feb 14th, however, we had the worst service in years for a restaurant asking over $50 for an entree. What went wrong? Almost everything: a table request placed a month earlier was noticed only upon our arrival and couldn't be filled; a 10-minute wait for water and 10 minutes more for menus and a chance to order a pre-dinner drink; after we ordered, the server left us holding the menus and I had to ask for them to be picked up; when my wife returned from the washroom, she found the spoon with the amuse-bouche placed on her napkin; the fish course scallop was put in a clam shell. Finally, the staff was completely unapologetic. Amazing."

  • "Epic is always lovely - the food is delicious, and the service is fantastic. It is in a hotel, so does have that vibe - different types of people in and out, but I think it adds to the atmosphere. The décor is a bit dated, but the food and service make up for that. After your meal, you can hang out in the lounge area. Much of the food is local (including some items grown/harvested on the roof!), and that's really wonderful."

  • "The food was excellent and the dinner staff was great but the service was slow. Understandable on Valentines day I guess, but we had a reservation and still waited about 20 minutes to be able to order anything. We came back in the next day mid-afternoon to have a drink and the service was much worse. Once our server learned that we just wanted some non-alcoholic drinks we couldn't get a hold of her again. Not even to get a refill or order something else. When I finally got her attention to ask for the bill we had to wait easily 20 minutes while she went and took several other orders. Considering this is a large hotel you would think that they would be used to people stopping in for a short period of time.."

  • "Epic is one of my favorite restaurants in Toronto. Very good food, usually very good service and very reasonable prices given the quality. This time it was Winterlicious and all 6 of us were quite satisfied. The little extras like the bread and butter variety, amuse bouche and the little "cakes" with coffee at the end add a nice touch. We like the location and truly appreciate the valet parking, especially during construction. Salmon and halibut are always good and we miss the seafood platter on ice, which was very fresh and the best in town."

  • "Four of us went for dinner at Epic on Saturday night. Everything was wonderful. From the valet parking, to being welcomed at the restaurant, our waiter and the food was all "epic". Our waiter was funny and very helpful and attentive. One of the best service experiences I have ever received. The food was flavourful and very tasty. Seafood chowder, ravioli filled with ricotta and black truffle in mushroom sauce and molton chocolate lava cake with sour cream ice cream were amazing, the coq au vin was good, however if you have tired it in France and are expecting the same thing, I would pass on it here. Wonderful experience and we would definitely go again!"

It took a while and some of my patience to find a friendly staff that apologize for restaurant mistake and found a solution to the situation the restaurant created. Food was fine."

  • "A group of 4 work colleagues went to Epic for lunch for Winterlicious. Unfortunately, a webcast had been scheduled after we booked the reservation, which would only allow us 45 mins for lunch. We went to Epick and asked if we could get our meal quickly as we were in a hurry and they were able to serve us all 3 courses in 40 mins.The servers were friendly and funny and quick. The wild mushroom ravioli that my manager had was to die for. I had a salad with lobster. It was good but there was not enough lobster to be filling. One of my colleagues had the chicken and she thought it was very good. Another colleage had the seafood chowder which she really enjoyed. The desserts were very nice."

  • "Do not go to this restaurant if you are short on time. We advised at booking we needed to be done within 1 1/2 hours and they promised not an issue. I called to restaurant directly to confirm our time restraint was within their service capabilities and was assured "not an issue". Upon arrival we advised/reminded the server we were time restraint and were assured once again it would not be an issue. They did not manage to serve our dinner within the time limit nor when we asked for them to call for the car were our needs met."
