A word from Enterprise Fish Co. - Santa Monica
Built in 1917, the historic building now home to our Santa Monica restaurant was once a transfer station for the narrow-gauge Red Car line, Los Angeles' first mass transit system. It was later the repair house for the world-famous Pacific Ocean Park, home to the oldest wooden roller coaster west of the Mississippi. These days, we're still a stone's throw from Venice Beach, heart of where L.A. goes to play -- and eat. Also just a few blocks from the waterfront, our sister restaurant in Santa Barbara operates in a century-old brick building originally home to an industrial linen service for seaside hotels. While the Douglas fir floors, soaring ceilings, and glassed cupola have always been features of this historic structure, the sweeping arches facing State Street were added after much of the building crumbled during the 1925 Santa Barbara earthquake.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant has been around for a while, and it has had its ups and downs in terms of food quality. It is presently in one of its up period. With slight changes to the menu, we are now very happy with the food, service is still a little iffy, but the noise level seems to have been buffered a bit. It is a huge warehouse. Our dinners were great and prices reasonable. My friend and I have been coming by for lunch fairly regularly and that is quite nice on the patio in this weather. Great to have this "old haunt" back in our book of places to go and to take friends."

  • "The fried seafood platter was terrible. It had been over cooked. Fried way too long. The breading was almost burned."

  • "We came here for the lobster special, which proved to be unavailable, despite it being Thursday evening. The raw oysters were good, but the seared tuna and halibut were nearly flavorless. The New England clam chowder was far too salty, although the Manhattan clam chowder was better, heresy for a Boston native to admit. When we asked for lemons with our ice water, we got the ice taken away without lemons. We had to ask for ice again. The tables had no salt, pepper or any condiments. We had to ask for them. When we asked for the heater to be lit, instead it was rolled away. We asked for two different varieties of Sauvignon Blanc to compare; neither one of us could taste any difference. At $100 plus tip, it was a disappointing meal for two."

  • "Had a bit of a hard time telephoning in a reservation. I was on hold for about 5 minutes before I decided to go on line. I went on line but, the times were on the hour and half hour. I chose the closest one to the time we needed and got confirmation. A few days later I tried the telephone bit again - and got through in no time. Everything was set up perfectly. The food was beyond amazing. Especially the lobsters. Prepared and served perfectly. The server was wonderful. One of our party didn't like the cut of the french fries. She wanted the shoestring and not the thick ones... Our server could not have been nicer. And took care of it immediately. Great place. Could not have been better. A real delight."

  • "We have made it a ritual to celebrate birthdays here! We come back for the food. It's great. The only negative thing I have to say, if you have no reservations it's a very long wait. I had reservations for 8:00pm and I still waited 25 minutes. While other people walked in after us, and got seated right away. I still don't get it!"

  • "Been going here for years. Recently put in a new speaker system at the bar (or so I was told) totally too loud. Cannot even hear the bartender take your order without shouting. A real buzz kill if you are watching a game or trying to have a conversation with somebody."

  • "The Boston clam chowder is superb. We had steamed clams, I had grilled halibut. Both were terrific. Service and attentiveness were missing this time -- definitely a sign that they have cut back on help. The blackboard with fresh fish selections is missing...as is the lobster special -- which was the main attraction for me!"

  • "The fish is fresh and always good. The lobster bisque with a puff pastry is always something I look forward to."

  • "I have eaten here a few times when visiting family in the area. The food is terrific and they offer a wide array of seafood and many options for how it is prepared. The food is fresh and nicely prepared. I usually try to go early for dinner because it gets very hectic later in the evening. I prefer booths along the widows where it seems less hectic as crowds gather. It is best to make reservations for weekend dinner dining. Parking can be an issue because the nearby lot is used for beach goers or other nearby businesses.prices are higher so with wine it can be expensive but it is worth the for a special seafood dinner."

  • "We dined here on Friday 6/20, with a reservation for 4. 2 adults, 2 children. Ordered crab cake appetizer, 2 kids meals, Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad and Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi. The kids meals arrived at least 10 minutes before the appetizer. Manager or supervisor (woman) delivered kids meals, when we asked about our appetizer, she said the kids meals were done and she was bringing them out now. She didn't seem at all concerned about the poor timing of any of it. So the kids finished their meals before the appetizer even arrived. By the time the adult meals arrived (5 minutes apart) the kids were restless and ready to go. Food was bad. Macadamia crusted mahi turned out to be 2 macadamia nuts on overdone fish. Very disappointed!"

  • "Not many good seafood restaurants on the west side but thank God we remembered Enterprise for a friend's bday dinner. She wanted good seafood, so we brought her here, and she loved it! In fact 4 other members of our group had never been here before and they fell in love with the food too. Our server and food runners were super nice and attentive. Get the clam chowder, lobster bisque, and especially the five Asian spices basa swai ( I might be off on the spelling)."

  • "Our celebration at the Enterprise Fish Company was perfect from the time of arrival until we left. The hostess promptly seated us; the waitress greeted us; the wine was perfect; the food was tasty. The birthday dessert was a surprise."

  • "Been coming here for 35 years since it opened. Great choice of seafood (and other stuff for those diners that don't do seafood), and their sides are really good, too. Wife had the lobster special, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and I had the macadamia encrusted mahi mahi, which was also very good. Wife comes here frequently with her walking buddies for happy hour appetizers. It's comfortable, family friendly, and the staff is always accommodating, and we're never afraid to bring guests, or recommend "FishCo" to out-of-towner's looking for an easy night out. Plenty of TV's around the bar for game nights."

  • "This was my first visit back in a long time, and I was very pleased with the dinner. The great warehouse open architecture has not changed, is charming and keeps the noise level down. Our server was well trained, knew the menu and provided excellent service. The selection of fresh fish was excellent, and our dishes were delicious. While the wine list is not extensive, there are wines in many categories, and they are fairly priced (a real plus). This was a totally enjoyable meal on all levels."

  • "Very enjoyable. Had the oysters and they were excellent! Also, just the right amount of attentiveness by wait staff."

  • "Very simply stated, we were served a Riesling instead of a Sancerre (sauvignon blanc), and when i asked to return it the server argued that Sancerre was a sweet wine, and that no mistake was made. I've been a sommelier for 20 years and have never experienced a sweet Sancerre! Finally we just asked for a different wine and the mistake was taken off the check. The service was poor enough, to guarantee that we will never return to this restaurant."

  • "A group of four of us ate outside just as happy hour was finishing up. They had our table ready at sat me solo to wait at the table while the rest of the part arrived - not bad. The waitress even came by right away so I could get a happy hour beer before the shift. The food was pretty good and serving sizes were acceptable - I polished mine but my wife didn't finish and gave me some of her's. Only downsides were that the beer list could use some work and they felt a little under-staffed outside. We waited a while to order once everyone was there."

  • "Why change the herb butter and sourdough bread? It was not warm and herb butter was very bland. Unlike past times. Disappointed. The salad was just soggy lettuce by the time it came to the table. I never got the lemon I requested for my oysters."

  • "The service was excellent, the sea bass I had was not so good... The green beans were not very fresh, and the fish didn't taste very soft like sea bass usually do... The clam chowder was delicious though... Everything else was decent... "

  • "We started off with an order of steamed clam and an order of mussels. Both excellent. Then we had 3 lobster dinners with the notation +/- 2 pounds. We should have refused the dinners because the lobsters that were brought to the table were barely 1 1/4 pounds each and I don't even think they weighed that . I spent $175.00 for these dinners and really felt that Enterprise was trying to pretend that these were the full size lobsters we were expecting. Joel our server was friendly and caring and did a very good job of looking after our needs. Enterprise Fish company needs to be held accountable for this fraud and stop advertising that the lobster dinner comes with approximately a 2 pound because these didn't even come close. Should refund ?"

  • "When arriving with a reservation, we were seated promptly and very efficiently. We frequent this restaurant about 6 times a year, however visiting this establishment for Mother's Day....we were a little taken back when being handed a Mother's Day special menu ONLY, and not the regular menu which had our favorites. "

  • "We enjoyed another fine dinner at Enterprise Fish Co., Santa Monica. The fact that it was also Mother's Day certainly added to the enjoyable evening. As always, the special entree choices were superb, the service was great, and the atmosphere was lively without being excessively loud (even for a Mother's Day!). I recommend Enterprise Fish Co. very highly, for any occasion!"

  • "We've been to Enterprise before and enjoyed it very much. This complaint is probably more for Open Table than for the restaurant. It would have been great to know that there was (only) a special menu (inflated prices) for Mother's Day. I realize this is not unusual for restaurants on the day but there should be an indication on the website. Ultimately, we had a nice time and found a way to enjoy a meal without the feeling of being ripped off but it leaves a bad taste...."

  • "I made reservations thru Open Table for a Saturday evening. They honored our reservation right on time. We were going to a play so we were on a time schedule. I am glad we made reservations, we would not have made the play without them. They had a gluten free menu for one of my friends. She said it was one of the best dinner she had in a long time. All our fish was fresh and delicious and good veggies. It is a busy place so make reservations!"

  • "So we came to enjoy the seafood but our waiter was lousy. He wasn't helpful with suggestions and looked confused when I asked for dessert to go. I wish he would've told me that they were just going to slop the Creme brûlée I ordered into a paper box. I would gladly have paid for the dish or made another selection from the menu. We will be back for the food but will definitely not come for the lousy service."

  • "While it's nothing fancy/gourmet, the seafood options at Enterprise were very good and prepared well. The lobster bisque with puff pastry topping was wonderful, if a tad too hot. The other seafood dishes our party of 4 had were all wonderful. Our New England guests wanted Pacific seafood and Enterprise delivered."
