A word from Enso Sushi & Bar
Enso.

In Japan, it means circle.

In life, it stands for the moment in which your mind is free for the body or spirit to create.

In Chicago, it is a place where you can sit back and relax in the presence of good company and good food. The philosophy behind the name allows us to give back to Chicago in a way where dining is not just about putting food into your system because you’re supposed to. It’s about satisfying your hearts desires through the palate. It’s fulfilling your taste buds with complementary flavors that absorb into your well-being and make you feel good about yourself. We build on the fundamentals of Japanese ingredients with our own personality. And present to you – ENSO Sushi & Bar.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We usually go to butterfly - which was closed because of the patio collapse. Enso was great - the pork belly was amazing and the staff was very nice. Love the dome ceiling!"

  • "Enso tops our former favorites that included Coast and Japonais."

  • "I visited Enso with my boyfriend on July 4th. While the bar next door was quite vibrant and full, Enso was completely empty (not a single table occupied...). We ordered the pork belly and miso broth ramen, along with two rolls (soul of fire and crunch). The food was okay; nothing exceptional. I would come back but only if I cannot think of better restaurants to go to."

  • "I generally avoid "hipster" spots, which is what this joint appeared to be at first glance. But the "music" is not too loud; I.e., one can actually have a conversation without shouting. Very friendly, personable staff with just the right amount of cheerfulness. The rolls were fantastic, especially the Godzilla, and World Cup."

  • "Godzilla roll, World Cup Roll both rocked. Like that the BYOB policy is clearly stated on the website (wine only). I live in the hood, and this may be my new favorite spot."

  • "While presentation was nice, flavors just did not pass muster. Not that anything was bad, just not necessarily good."

  • "All three Sushi rolls we ordered where too sweet otherwise got a great bottle of soki and place is good"

  • "Have criss-crossed the city for years looking for the perfect sushi gem and this is it ! Almost don't want to share but you better go before they realize the food is too good and the prices are too low. Have dined at Enso six times and every time it is fantastic. Enso beats our former favorites Coast and Macku."

  • "Great (but still reasonable) sushi...one of the best around."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Loved the spicy pork belly Ramen. The crouching lobster and wocka wocka rolls were really good too. Awesome value - very filling and prices were very reasonable. The rolls were larger than expected, glad we only ordered 2 between the 2 of us."

  • "A group of 6 of us came here for a friends birthday dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant is fairly small, but very cozy and nicely decorated. The food was really great and came very fast. We had ordered a few appetizers for the table and then we sushi rolls for the main course. Everything came out pretty much at once, it would have been nice if they spaced it out a little better. The waitress was also not very friendly at all, and she got my friends order wrong twice before bringing out the correct food. Overall, the food and ambiance was great and I would come back here."

  • "This was our second time at Enso, and both times the food has been delicious. The sushi, their sliders, and especially the ramen are awesome. My only complaint about Enso is their service. They seem to be overwhelmed and not prepared for a packed restaurant on a Saturday night. I had made a reservation for 8:00pm, and it took them at least 10 minutes to figure out where to seat us when half of the tables in the restaurant were empty. The servers also were stretched pretty thin. If they work on the service aspect, we will be frequent diners."

  • "The lighting was horrible. I had to be moved because I was blinded but it didn't help at all.I definitely don't think I would return."

  • "Some of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. This place is so much better than neighboring Coast Sushi. Sooooo good."

  • "I've always enjoyed shopping in Buck Town and I LOVE sushi, so this was the perfect spot for a Sunday lunch. I ate and then did a little shopping. It's a decently sized place and the drink menu options are awesome. I've never had Sake, but tried a sparkling white peach Sake and it was to die for ($5/glass doesn't hurt either). The sushi was really good too. I suggest getting the Chef's choice of Sashimi."

  • "Treated my old man to lunch at Enso's. We started out with an order of the pulled pork buns and the pork belly ramen, which were both wonderfully flavorful. We then ordered three rolls -- softshell crab, spicy tuna and the Milwaukee -- which were all fresh and delicious. Very few patrons for lunch so ample seating avaialable. Also, the music was loud but the server happily turned it down per our request."

  • "It's our first time having dinner in this neighborhood. Although it's really hard to find a parking space, we then had a really good evening here. The light is romantic and everything was set up for the Valentine's dinner. We ordered sashimi plate for appetizer and it was fresh and tasty. My girlfriend had ramen and I had sushi rolls. The service here is also good."

  • "I understand that valentines day is a busy night for restaurants. I don't understand how a restaurant will accept your reservation, call you the day before to confirm, then tell you there aren't tables available when you show up on time. The food was good, the restaurant is nice, but we we're say late, the server seemed flustered all night, and definitely wanted more out of the service."

  • "We went for the first time for lunch. My husband loves sushi and I cannot eat any fish. Waitress was very knowledgeable and the manager came to us at the end of the meal to comp my husband's saki as it was his birthday. Only disappointment was that we ordered from the restaurant week menu and they did not have that dessert and it was only 2 pm."

  • "Enso is the whole package deal! Great sushi and ramen. Fun atmosphere for a night out. Knowledgable and personable staff. This is a keeper!"

  • "Chose Enso because of restaurant week and very happy we did. The Enso Salad was fabulous, and I have a new love for Golden Beets in the appetizer salad. The Adobo Pork Belly was so tender and flavored you did not need a knife to cut. The only disappointment of night was the Fried Banana Tempura, very bland. Service was also excellent, never had to wait for water, drinks or next course."

  • "Met up with a bunch of friends I haven't seen for awhile here. Had to change reservations at the last minute and they were totally cool about it. Pork belly rolls are outstanding. BBQ pork appetizer was also awesome. Actual restaurant is very dark but very fun. Get a group and go --- you won't be disappointed!"

  • "The sushi here was amazing. My expectations were blown away. Great unique flavor mixes balanced perfectly and presented beautifully. The place is a little loud, it’s more of a hip sushi place than a traditional one. The place is one long hall with a big screen (playing college football) above the chefs. The music was 90's rock and hip hop at an above average volume. Our waiter was super friendly and made great recommendations. BUT he was rarely around and didn't always check up when we needed him. It seemed like they were kind of disorganized, I'm not sure if he was new or someone didn't show up and he had more tables than he could handle. We'll be back and hopefully they'll have solved their service issues!"

  • "Food was pretty good. The music was very loud and really ruined our dinner conversation. I thought I was at a hard rock bar. Lighting was too low and I was not able to read my menu. It was pretty dead so I hope they make it. I think the problem is that the ceiling is too high and the music was just echoing."

  • "Change of pace went for a non-sushi meal and really liked the soft shell crab steamed buns and the duck with home made noodles soup. Really liked them both, but would like to try the pork belly versions. The sake flight was also a good"

  • "Great sushi. Mid-week for lunch the place was empty."

  • "Great evening - food was outstanding and the service was very attentive. We had a wide variety of rolls and each was excellent. Also, don't miss the soft shell crab sliders appetizer. Lots of sushi choices in and around Bucktown but Enso is a winner."

  • "Kept it simple, took the recommendation of the server on a coulple of rolls that were both fantastic. The crazy 8 and Lady Diana. Server had too many tables for her to handle alone, only saw here a couple times during the meal. Overall dig the place though, food was very good and I liked the ambience."

  • "This is now my go-to sushi joint in Chicago. I LOVE the good here! Don't forget to try the "create your own" maki!"
    Dined on 3/8/2013
  • "This was our first visit to Enso. We chose it because a) we wanted sushi, and b) we were in the middle of a snow storm and we could walk there. It was a really slow night, so we expected really attentive service. The host/waiter was really friendly and helpful with menu suggestions, but when our first order came, we got sushi we didn't order. No problem -- we were a bottle of hot sake in, so we accepted the wrong order cheerfully. Here's my personal opinion on the food: boring salad, complicated & yet somewhat bland sushi. The special rolls that sounded spicy (jalapenos, etc.) were still mild. We decided to build our own and came up with something we really loved. Our roll included Enso's spicy mayo and it is AWESOME. Order extra."

  • "I am typically very picky when it comes to sushi. I thought the rolls were fresh and the pieces were the perfect size. There are a ton of options to choose from. If you like creative rolls with sauces and interesting ingredients this place is great. The vegtable dragon is awesome as well. The cocktail list is unique and the two I tried were great. In the scale of sushi restaurants in the city this place is reasonably priced and the sushi is good not amazing. It is a good addition to the neighborhood. Walking by I had initially thought it looked like a night club or maybe they were trying too hard but that is not at all the case. It is a little dark and cozy inside but not at all pretentious. Wait staff was super friendly and helpful."

  • "Great for vegetarians - the make your own maki offered more options than the usual cucumber/avocado rolls at other nice sushi joints. The cocktails were good as well. We'll be back!"
