Engine Co. No. 28Great spot!We had reservations on a Saturday night but totally could have walked in. The hostess and staff were warm and inviting. If you need a quick, delicious bite they have a Saturday night happy hour. Awesome! You could have eaten and had a drink for $10!
We ordered off of the main menu and had the NY steak and braised lamb shank. Both were delicious and good sized portions. The house special cocktail was a Manhattan and my husband loved it. I had a gin martini shaken with perfection.
The complimentary shuttle service seemed busy and is such a great idea for locals in the downtown area or folks headed to a show/performance at one of the local venues.
The menu is sure to have something for everyone in your group.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPre Theatre BiteI continue to go back to Engine 28, not only because it offers the shuttle service to the theatres, but because the food is consistently good. The menu lends itself to all kinds of diners, complete with nurture food, like meatloaf and chili, and great for vegetarians with its beet salad and eggplant parmesian. The restaurant, housed in an old fire house, is full of comfy booths, tin ceilings and even the fire pole. Great place to bring out of towners to on a theatre or opera night.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMService was great, food wasService was great, food was good, and overall experience enjoyable.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMHad not been here in a numberHad not been here in a number of years....but it did not disappoint...happy hour at the bar goes until 10 PM...so, unless your having a bottle of wine for dinner, finish your cocktails at the bar...one added bonus was that the the Governor of California was there enjoying himself and being a politician all at the same time.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMQuick bite b-4 King's playoff gameThey were able to accommodate some special diet restrictions for me & did so with a smile.
The food came out as ordered. My daughter loved her caesar salad.
One complaint, the shuttle to staples center wasn't available that night, even though I'd called to check that afternoon.
Minor annoyance, as it's an easy walk to & from anyway.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great celebrationWe had a great celebration for my husband and brother in-laws birthday. Our waitress was amazing.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat First ImpressionI took a couple of friends who have in LA for many years, worked Downtown and had never to this establishment. They were suitablely impressed by the ambience, the menu selections, and courteous service.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were seated promptly whenWe were seated promptly when we arrived. I had left a message that it was my granddaughter's birthday and the restaurant brought her two desserts, including a birthday cupcake with a candle on it and a sundae; this was a very nice touch. We enjoyed the food and it was a good cap to her birthday day.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMEngine Co no. 28 is a classic theEngine Co no. 28 is a classic

We both got a dinner off the special St. Patty's Day menu: shepherd's pie. Really delicious and rib-sticking like you'd want it. Service was wonderful -- the staff was very aware of our time limitations which allowed us to enjoy our meal and still get to the theater on time. We'll be back.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways goodAs always, the menu at Engine Company 28 is always something I look forward to when in LA. It's comfort food taken to a higher level.
