EN Japanese BrasserieFavorite brunch spot!EN is my favorite brunch spot! Nothing compares to their steak and eggs!!!
I understand that the resto closes at 3 (or 3:30). Our reservation was for 1:45 and 2:45, we finished our food. The wait staff seemed to be rushing to remove our plates even when one of the people in our party was still working on his food. I've been to this resto before and service was great. This time, however, I felt rushed to be shoved out of the resto. Not as enjoyable as the 3 other times I've visited this place.
Food is delicious. Kudos to the kitchen!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful spacious glorious flowersWe ate early so the staff was very attentive and spent time explaining the specials.
The warm tofu (for two) was so good and exceptionally fresh I will return just to have it again.
I ordered the Santa Barbara sea urchin sushi (very fresh) and it was offered in four different dishes that sounded equally wonderful.
I eat Japanese food in many different restaurants but this restaurant serves very fresh fish and cooked food as well
I highly recommend EN Japanese Brasserie6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI'm in love...with the way Abe conceives simple plates whose impeccable( local and Japanese- raised )ingredients are prepared, plated and presented by a staff whose culture speaks to dining without pretense. The wine and sake list has made me a convert to the latter, whose delights I never fully understood. The service staff is just that, of service.
The room is designed to put a focus on your table, no distractions from your companion(s) or your meal.
Ah, young love!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome FoodEverything is super fresh and organic when available. The organic chicken on the hot stone was our favorite along with the tofu salad, the sliced tomato and the scallop sashimi.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant Japanese eveningVery nice and friendly service and most important, delicious food, tasty and elegant. A bit expensive but worth every penny!
A real gem.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, Different, BE SELECTIVEwe love this place, going in as a 2some, 4some and occasionally 7-10 of us. Look, u dont go there for standard sushi sashimi. And yes, not everything is always memorable. Honestly at this place we dont come in for the large meat and fish entrees.
here are the items over the years we've loved: ALWAYS the fresh tofu (hot or cold... to share. Silky delicious and different); the EN salad (micro greens with tofu skin dressing; lovely presentation); the popcorn shrimp; the mushroom dish; hot pot rice.
The cold soba noodles with duck broth less memorable tho half our table loved it.
OFten the Sake Flight is a lovely way to enjoy variety with the meal. Sometimes the choices on the Flight are wonderful, occasionally fine tho' not memorable.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Food was delicious (every single thing we ordered) and service was amazing! Would definitely recommend for any meal and any special occasion!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerI celebrated my 30th birthday dinner here, we did the fixed menu with the Sake pairing. We had an amazing waitress, everyone was very much on top of bringing dishes, taking away old ones, taking time to explain what is served with what... AMAZING! Thank you EN for making my birthday dinner an amazing experience! It was worth every penny!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMtry something newOnce a year we go to New York for a trade show and have our favorite restaurants we always go to. So this time I thought lets try something new. I read a report in a magazine about EN and it sounded interesting so I made a reservation. It was interesting! Very different but nice! Food was very good! Just the salad was a little boring compared to the other food that was very tasty. The waiter was very considerate, wine was good. I can´t say anything bad but in the end it will not be added to my list for going there again somehow it didn´t get to me really.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWore my cold soba noodlesYep, that's right. The bus boy clearing the table dumped it all over me. The food was great despite wearing some of it. :-P5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAnimated with great foodThis restaurant is always crowded, and the food delicious. Although it is beautiful, and some of the accoutrements are really spectacular, there's a comfortable ease about it. I think that's why people feel free to converse in tones that are not "hushed". I've been to En 10 times in 1 year. The staff is professional and not intrusive. This is my go to place for eating great food, without having to be fussy about what to where.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic tasting menuThis is the second time my girlfriend and I went to this restaurant, and the second time we've had a wonderful evening. We each ordered a different tasting menu and our waiter anticipated that we wanted to share everything before we even asked. Every course came with additional silverware and bowls as necessary to accommodate easy sharing of each dish. It just made our night that much nicer. We'll definitely go back again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the most beautifulOne of the most beautiful dining spaces in NYC. Happy that they serve terrific food too.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMKyoto in NYThis restaurant mixed japanese culture with manhattan energy and it is a real success.
It is vibrant but not to noisy. Decoration reminded me some traditional Kyoto restaurants but with a modern twist
Food is perfect and the view on the kitchen is amazing.
Yes it is expansive (100$ per head with beer) but it worth it.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect every timeI always go here for the kuroge washugyu yaki shabu. i love the interactivity of having to grease the hot stone with the cubes of fat. Mmmm. The beef is delicious together with the yuzu sauce. It is perfect in every way. Also, our server Taro is the best. Everything they do has a certain ritual to it. We felt very taken cared of with him as he attended to our every need and even apologized for taking too long to take out desert order. Will come here again for many years to come.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA TRUE DELIGHTI cant fault EN in anyway at all, always a pleasure ..4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were seated for our 9:15We were seated for our 9:15 reservation by 9:40 not too bad for Saturday night. The food was delicious as always. We want to try other things but every time we go we get the tasting menus. Its so nice to sit back and see what comes next! The daikon, beef and foir gras was the standout of the Sakura menu. My only complaint are the tables. Way too close to your neighbor to enjoy the zen of the food. Also the bench seating is too high and the tables too low for comfort. I am short and my legs were hitting the table, can't imagine how over 5 feet could sit there.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the special cherryWe had the special cherry blossom dinner which had a certain novelty. It was a bit too many courses and while most were well prepared and presented, it didn't include some of the special fish on the menu. It was lovely sitting under a large mass of cherry blossoms and the servers were friendly. Definitely pricey & would order off the a la carte menu next time.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic Japanese cuisineAuthentic Japanese cuisine with an western flair. The sashimi and sushi was excellent but this is not a traditional sushi bar type restaurant with a broad selection. After a week in the US my Japanese customer loved this restaurant4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and waitstaff wereThe food and waitstaff were excellent. The hosts need coaching.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMService was excellent. TheService was excellent. The agedashi tofu and black cod were delicious. We also ate the garlic fried rice which was also tasty.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMA special place and wonderfulA special place and wonderful to enjoy for the surroundings and the food. All very well-done!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMEn was wonderful. We especiallyEn was wonderful. We especially enjoyed the homemade tofu! The food is outstanding especially the oyster omelet. Organic chicken entree was out of this world and the doughnut dessert with ice cream guarantees our return. A great deal for a top-notch experience.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe ambience is exquisite. The ambience is exquisite. I love the high ceilings, lighting and table configurations. We didn't feel at all cramped, and they manage to merge cozy with elegant in the most sublime way.
The sake selection is huge, so be prepared to take time to decide. It's served in a bamboo container on ice, which is a nice touch.
En is known for its freshly made tofu. It's delicious alone and perfection with a dash of soy sauce. The miso cod was cooked with a light carmelized exterior and served with grated with radish. The maki is the best in town in my opinion.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA fantastic eating experience.A fantastic eating experience. Rivals a meal I ate in Kyoto City. I highly recommend having the fresh scooped tofu warm. Truly amazing. Every bite was perfection.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food, as always was superb. The food, as always was superb. When we started to take our time they were not pushy and did not try to get us out. Food was very good. Since we chose from the restaurant week menu it was not their best food, but it was very good.1/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
