From the station walk one block west to Hudson Street, turn right, and then walk two blocks north to leroy st. - the west 4th street station (A, C, E, F, D or V) is the next closest station. From the station walk west from 6th ave.

Experience traditional Japanese dining in a beautiful, authentic Japanese restaurant located in the West Village of Manhattan. We offer the rich traditions of Japanese home cooking with Chef Abe Hiroki’s modern approach to Washoku, a relaxed style of dining centered around a procession of small plates. Like we do in Japan, we cook with the seasons, and savor the peak flavor of ingredients.

We adhere to the fundamentals of Japanese cooking: respecting the ingredients and their natural flavors, cooking in the moment, and not doing too much. We have created an extensive menu, featuring dishes as fresh tofu (prepared six times a night), Saikyo Miso Black Cod, stone grilled Washugyu steaks, an assortment of sashimi and sushi and a signature EN Kaiseki set menu, a sequence of eight extraordinary presentations. To compliment your dining experience, we have developed an extensive list of small-batch, artisanal sake and shochu to complement your dining experience.

  • "I came here with a friend of mine. The service was great, the food was very good and fresh (I'm sorry but excellent rating is very tough for me) and I love the decor. It was an awesome time. We tried the basic sake sampler it was fun and I made a sake believer out of my friend. I can imagine this place being a great place to hang out with friends in the bar area and in the dining area and I can imagine it being good for a romantic time too because the noise level never got that large and there is plenty of space between you and the next table but it was in the middle of the day. Oh the ginger infused souchu is awesome."

  • "I came here for Restaurant week and it didn't disappoint. We were seated almost immediately and sat by the Kitchen watching the Chefs work. We had the Salmon and Black Angus strips. The Food was amazing. We also ordered the Sea Bass which was delightful. We had the homemade dessert which was a homemade ice cream and a Pudding . Overall, The Food was good and the Service was great."

  • "The food was average at best, but it was a nice night, and the beer was cold, so it was tolerable. Until we asked for the check. The waiter at first was apologetic, and explained that the computers were down. Hmmmm. The plot thickens. 25 minutes and 2 bathroom visits later, still no check. I asked the waiter again for a check, and then he did his best David Copperfield and vanished. I was perplexed- I mean- what establishment isn't happy to get paid. I asked for a manager. Surprisingly enough, there were 3 others waiting for the manager. Seriously understaffed and incompetent. It took another 20 minutes of carrying on just to get our bill. Needless to say, NEVER GOING BACK-- IT'S JUST NOT THAT GOOD; EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS. BEWARE."

The two starter courses were so disgusting that I couldn't eat them, and my "additional 13$" steak was unmemorable--it was perfectly cooked but the flavor was way too citrusy. The miso soup was good, but like any 5$ miso, and I enjoyed their interesting rice. The ice cream was also delicious, but the regular menu lists that dessert as three flavors and we only got one. I just felt like I wasted my entire day's pay on a bad meal..."

  • "restaurant week is the time where i take advantage of restaurants i can't normally go to (aka budget is tight) and this is what i did at EN.. Took a good friend for his bday for lunch. The menu wasn't impressive at all, and wasn't good. Three options for meal, and if you pick the sirloin one you have to pay for like $15 more. No thanks!"

  • "Great food, but when ordering what we thought were two main courses, and a vegetable side with rice, we were expecting to be more full but ended up with emptier wallets :[ If I go again I would recommend trying the prefix menu...it seemed a little confusing but should be worth it to ask a waiter about it! We also went there to scope for using the resturant as a possible wedding reception venue...great space but better for something more intimate due to the large centerpiece in the main room."

  • "This is a good restaurant with a nice interior and atmosphere. Definitely a hip place to be. The sake selection is quite long and the waiter is quite knowledgeable and helpful. However, the food was not incredible, it is just good enough. Had some chutoro sashimi, spider crab roll, anago roll, uni roll and a slice of wagyu beef. Personally, I would like to think that I know how to enjoy food and its different subtleties and nuances. Having eaten at other hyped and famous japanese places in New York and Worldwide, I found the food decent, a step up from the random mediocre restaurants but it really does not impress you. I would return just for the ambiance and the setting as it is quite nice but not for the food, which was not bad but decent"

  • "Very good experience, my gf and I took the small tasting menu and coupled it with one flight of paired sake. Definitely worth and very tasty. Highly recommend trying the sakes too, the range of flavours is very interesting. We found some waiters very good in explaining the dishes that were brought, while others were "just serving". Overall service very good in any case, as well as ambience. The place felt lively, in a very nice and non-disturbing way. Very happy and would recommend to others for an unusual Japanese dinner."

  • "This is my second time at EN, and I fell in love with the food and ambience all over again. The house specialty, the organic tofu is a must try, as was the stone grilled organic chicken. I'm very partial to Japanese cuisine and will admit I'm not easily impressed.   • "Usually, En is a great restaurant. For some reason, my most recent experience was not pleasant. We were given a 4 person table with an extra seat for the 5th one. I took the 5th seat as it was the most uncomfortable one with no leg room. My legs were pressed against the edge of a table that did not have an opening. I was surprised at the lack of this attention to detail. How can you seat 5 people at a 4 person table? There was no leg room to speak of. I didn't raise a fuss as i was with important friends. The second disappointment was the awful avocado and tuna salad. The tuna was stale and not fresh... We left more than half of it - normally that would be a sign to an astute server to detect something was amiss. Not for a group."

The price was really for the ambience and presentation, which I thought was a little gimmicky (esp. The vegan set where the rice was cooked with a candle flame and you are supposed to time it yourself with an hourglass). It's definitely a NYC experience, although if you are used to Japanese fine dining from Japan or Asia, don't expect the food to be of the same quality."

  • "Each time we come to EN, we try something new and we are never disappointed. Their soft tofu (we prefer warm) is delicate and creamy and the dashi complements it wonderfully. The miso black cod is among our most favorite dishes in the world, as is the salmon clay pot rice dish - well worth the 40 minute wait. And tonight we fell in love with the garlic shisho fried rice. Service is great, even when they are busy and even though we have small children who don't always remain seated. We are such fans"

When we asked what were her favorites and if she could guide us she said "the spicy tuna is very popular and the miso sea bass " I mean do we look like we live in Nebraska? I was completely appalled by her lack of enthusiasm to guide us through a somewhat complicated menu process as first timers. The food was good but the service in a place like this is crucial for the experience"

The black cod is a fantastic piece of fish as well. Lobster was amazing but portion was much smaller than the others and did not justify the price point. BLACK SESAME ICE CREAM..... WOW."
