A word from Empire Steak House - West 54th Street
Empire Steak House, conveniently located at 237 west 54 street near Broadway, showcases modern décor in a classy, but trendy atmosphere. The all-white marble bar and sprawling dining room provide an additional air of sophistication. While Empire's steaks are acclaimed for its famous dry-aged porterhouse for two, the rest of the vast menu is equally stellar, featuring a wide range of fresh seafood such as 4-to 5-lb lobsters, Chilean Sea Bass, Salmon, Yellow Fin Tuna, towering seafood platters, and much more. The eatery offers a highly selective wine list and features many of California's most sought after vintages. The Zagat rated restaurant is owned and operated by the Sinanaj family. The Sinanaj’s success dates back to their first restaurant opening of Empire Steak House in 2010. The space is 4,500 square feet and can accommodate 230 guests for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, private rooms available!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This was a perfectly good steakhouse meal, with their Peter Lugers-y horseradish steak sauce (though here it's much thinner, so it just tastes like cocktail sauce). The ambiance was very hotel lobby, though, and the service was odd -- waiter had a little trouble understanding us, but then seemed offended when I clarified my order to make sure it was correct, and then again when we didn't want him to put more fries on our plates for us. With so many other great options for steak in the city, I doubt we'll be back, but it was a perfectly good meal and you certainly wouldn't leave unsatisfied if you found yourself in the neighborhood and in need of some red meat and asparagus. (Though the Palm a few blocks away is a better option.)"

  • "I have been to many steak houses in Manhattan and this was most disappointing. For the price, there are many steakhouses that are better. I will not go to this restaurant again. Although cooked rare as requested, my ribeye steak was tough and chewy. The sides were ok but again, overpriced."

  • "This location presents a different, more lively ambiance. Food is the same quality as 52nd St and I think we had a new server since the service was a little slow at times and I was charged for 3 Prix Fixe meals, instead of two. Easily forgiven as everything was corrected quickly and the manager checked in periodically. You can't really go wrong here as even things like the sauteed broccoli are cooked to perfection. I never had cooked broccoli that maintained such a fresh and crunchy texture. If I have to nitpick, the lobster in the lobster bisque could have been more plentiful and slightly less rubbery but it wasn't bad and they could have a bigger beer selection. Huge portions and I leave stuffed every time I'm at Empire."

  • "Steakhouses have to achieve a certain level in NYC to be seriously considered. It's a very appealing room. Standard steakhouse appetizers, salads, beef cuts and sides. Tomato and onion salad was heavier on onions than tomatoes (and onions could have been a sweeter variety). Sirloin steak was chewy and a bit stringy, and despite being ordered 'naked', arrived in 'jus' and salt.( However, as it was not true 28-day dry aged beef, this was beneficial mistake). The baked potato, though, was perfect---true steakhouse variety: immense, with flavorful interior and charred crisp skin.."

  • "Looking for a great meal on a Saturday evening before a concert can be daunting. Elegant, relaxing environment with outstanding staff that were both attentive and unobtrusive. Our fish entrees were enormous portions PERFECTLY cooked. I am very particular about salmon. The other entree was grilled yellowfin that was like a well grilled steak, medium rare. Both were moist and delectable. The baked potato was the huge steakhouse kind and our vegetable sides were hot, expertly made and irresistible! Who ever says that about creamed spinach. We could have easily lingered for dessert, after dinner drinks etc for the whole evening as we were encouraged to do by the waiters and host. A must for the next stay in the theater district."

  • "The service and enviro men were nice. However, the food was not up to the quality of the prices. My ribeye was a little over cooked and baked potato seemed as it had been cooked yesterday then reheated for my meal. Furthermore, both lacked good natural cleaver. As a rule if I have to use your special steak sauce, then your steak is not up to snuff. Overall, if you want a nice steak there are better options in NYC."

  • "Food was terrific and service was stellar. We were there early so it was quiet. Great for steak and seafood. We went back for desert and nightcap after the opera, and it was equally good and great service at the bar."

  • "I mistakenly reserved a table at the 54th street location because the address cuts off on my smart phone app. We actually dined at the 52nd Street location. The host called the 54th Street location and sorted it all out for us. It was a Saturday and we arrived just before noon. We were the only customers in the restaurant. Service was excellent and the food was very good."

  • "We were 12peoples group last night. Their warm service with a sense of distance was great. Food was delicious. Each meat has larger portion as we usually expect, but it also helped out our mood. I recommend this restaurant to my friend, especially for corporate dinner and so on. Their great service would definitely assist party planner!"

  • "Very good food. Sat at the bar, and was impressed that the bartender actually remembered me from the last time I was there several weeks ago with my wife. The food was cooked to perfection, the drinks were great. My only small complaint was that room temperature was cold. Then again, its been one cold winter!"

  • "I have been to many steakhouses in the city and this was towards the top. Although we went for restaurant week we weren't treated any differently. The service was fantastic but a little on the slower side but overall great experience!"

  • "I came in here for restaurant week. The food was incredible! Prices were reasonable and the service was great! My servers name was Carlos and he did a great job. I fell in love with their chocolate ice cream! The place looked. Beautifully and romantic . Everyone was so nice. The waiter was not the only one checking on us, the manager did too. I loved it. My boyfriend and I had a great time."

  • "The ambiance was good for a group. The service was excellent. Waitstaff very polite and attentive. Good door greeting. I had the Fried Calamari - 2nd best I've had - First was in Rome, Filet mignon with mashed potatoes and broccoli..a RW staple. Tasted excellent size of filet was a tad on the small side. Pretty Good mushroom sauce. Tiramasu dessert delicious but a supermarket sample sized portion was ridiculous. Don't know whose idea that was. Tasted just like what I cook at home. I am an excellent cook, but this is the first time I got my own flavors at a restaurant."

  • "Being fans of the 'Peter Luger' type steak but never being at Empire's sister establishment, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this new restaurant. Shrimps were giant-firm-properly chilled. Crab cocktail-large lumps. Steak done as requested and German potatoes filled with onion & flavor. A mishap with our wine was handled immediately (an appropriately). In addition, management even went over-board with gratis dessert as an apology! The 'French' service needs to be polished to strike the proper balance between 'elegant' and 'obtrusive'. If you live in the neighborhood-you have a gem. If you are visiting NYC and are near W54th you can bet on a great steak."

  • "First, the tablecloth had an enormous grease spot on it and though I pointed it out, nothing was done--except I was thanked for saying something. Next, the lobster spaghetti was served with a big plop of spaghetti topped with a sprawled lobster in its shell; there was no way to eat it without making a mess; we asked for it to be taken out of the shell; it was. Finally, I asked for a glass of red wine and chose an Amarone without knowing the price: $34.95 FOR A GLASS. Yes, $34.95! At least we should have been told the price: we weren't. Think twice before going. We won't return."

  • "For Saturday evening at 7pm, the restaurant was just beginning to see the dinner trade, with many more wait staff than customers. The steaks and sides were excellent and we felt tended to constantly....except when it came time for the check. After declining dessert and coffee, we seemed to become invisible to our waiter and the other staff, waiting thirty minutes to get the waiter's attention and request the check. He seemed surprised that we asked! It made for an awkward end to a very good and expensive dinner."

  • "Recently opened and not very busy on the night we went. We were more than half hour late and a third of our party did not show up but nobody gave us any hint that that would be an issue. The service was excellent plus. In fact I have been in NY more than 15 years and this must be the best I ever had. The portions were bigger and the beef more tender than Luger's, Wolfgang or Ruth Chris and perfectly cooked to order. Seafood platter was very fresh. In conclusion, if you want Luger+ quality without the obnoxious service and attitude I strongly recommend Empire. Definitely moved on top on my list."

  • "The food was good. The waitstaff was attentive without being annoying. I had the calamari (delicious), the shrimp scampi (ok), and cheesecake (good). My date had the canadian bacaon (good), the kobe burger (good), and tiramisu (delicious). My only complaint is that I dined here during restaurant week and had to ask for the restaurant week menu."

  • "Had a group of 14 and the service was great. Besides the meal being impeccable one of our guests left their bag behind and one of the servers literally chased us down 4 blocks away to give us the bag back. You don't get service like that in a lot of places."

  • "We were sat at a very small table that could barely fit our plates, we were also sat along the walk way which the table was so small i was being bumped by everyone walking by, this was the waiters. I was very displeased with the sitting arrangement, there were plenty of bigger tables available that couldve accomidated us. i was here on a date with mypregnant wife, and it took 2 hours for us to get our first appetizer. Not only that but customers that were sat after us received thier food quicker then we did. Me and my wife are very ddisappointed and will not be returning to this establishment. It was a date that felt ruined by lack of professionalism you would expect in such a restraunt as this one."

  • "Went here with my wife on valentine's day, fried calamari was entirely too greasy and served with what seemed to be ketchup. Steak was pretty good however they did not cook it to specification we both ended up with well done. German potato was great. Desert was also not all that great, the red velvet cake is nothing but a sponge cake dyed red, pecan pie is ok however the ice cream that came with it had a hair in it. Service was atrocious, took a very long time to even bring the bread basket, waiter forgot my drink and we had to wait a really long time between course changes and also took forever to come and check on us after we got our main course. This would have been OK at about half the price but not at what it was."

  • "I chose Empire Steak house because I was looking for someplace close to the theater we were going to. It had pretty good reviews and was able to seat us when we needed to. I was disappointed when we pulled up because I saw it was associated with a hotel. Usually those places aren't that great. We had about an hour to eat and then walk to the show. We let our waiter know up front we were on a bit of a time constraint. We ordered a salad and the filet mignon. The steak was surprisingly very good. It was cooked perfectly. They served it on a hot plate. The service was good and they were friendly. I was impressed with it. Is it the BEST steak I've ever had in NYC - no. But it was very good and I would go back."

  • "Overall we had a nice time but there were a few unfortunate events. The waiter at the table next to us banged into my chair several times and never apologized. I ordered the filet mignon well done and it came burned on the outside, and was quite fatty for filet. For the price of the filet I was disappointed. Our waiter was great and the service was very good."

  • "We started with cocktails at the bar while waiting for a table. The bar is beautiful and had good vibe. The food was very good, filet mignon was very tender and cooked the way I asked. Great side dishes my favorite was the creamed spinach. The carrot cake was ok, had better. Overall experience was great, will go back."

  • "The food was fantastic and the service was absolutely great. We were truly pampered. The only disappointment was that they were short on some wines we wanted to take - -according to them, a lot of wine were consumed during the New Year's Eve party. Other than that, we will definitely go back there for a special occasion - - but in the warmer months as the restaurant was really really cold."

  • "I took my family of 6 here for New Years Eve. I had seen the bar which looked pretty cool from the street. The food was very good. Most of us had the special fixed menu with plenty of options. I had surf and turf - both the steak and the lobster were very good and the steak was cooked just right at med rare as ordered. The crab cake appetizer was terrific. The sides were just okay. My family had rib eye, filet mignon, and the porterhouse - all were very good and cooked correctly. The waiters took good care of us, but it was very slow. We were there for over 3 hours we had a 8pm seating. Not a lot of ambiance."

  • "The owners of Empire Steakhouse have made things much more difficult! There are now two superlative wonderful Empire steakhouses in New York City not far from each other. It is difficult to choose which one is better. Plus some simply fabulous staff at the original Empire have moved to the new empire on certain days. Food at Empire2 is every bit as good as the food at the original Empire. The new restaurant is a beautiful well designed spacious warm quiet and comfortable place. I highly recommend it. The only problem will be deciding which Empire is better. Either way you will get it wonderful and well-prepared meal that is expertly served by warm and friendly servers and very hospitable hosts!"
