Empellon TaqueriaFantastic brunch...Came here for the first time for Mother's Day brunch. The service was warm and welcoming and the food was in a word: fantastic! We ordered an egg and chorizo dish, steak and eggs and a variety of tacos for the table. Everything was so good no one wanted to share! In a city where a lobster enchilada runs you $30 it's a pleasure to find a spot where the tortilla adds to the taste not just holds the stuff inside. Where skirt steak is elevated to amazing. At first the guacamole and chips feel restrained but you'll be thankful when you get salsas that make you stop and ask what that wonderful smoky flavor is. Yes salsa that makes you eat a little slower to savor. This is not your padre's taqueria, but it's not uppity/yuppy either. If you are a mezcal/tequila fan (or are just curious) this is the place for you. My favorites: the cashew/chipotle salsa and the skirt steak tacos (otra vez, not your padre's taco). My only complaint: the music in the background is great but it consistently cuts out in the middle of tunes. A particularly annoying case is Sly's If You Want Me To Stay. The fact that I know that tells you how often I frequent this place (or how much I like that tune). I could go on and on. From the moment we walked in the door - the service was excellent.
The oyster appetizer with 7 different salsas is excellent. If you don't like oysters, then I would recommend you do the 7 salsas with chips as the salsas are great.
We split 4 of the appetizer portions of tacos. If it's just two of you, you really only need 2 maybe 3. The shortribs, lamb ad fish tacos were amazing. My only complaint of the evening was that we didn't love the chicken taco.

Said it once and saying it again - love, love, love this place. Staff and servers are uber-cool and super-nice. Food is wickedly good. Tacos are so-HIP and so-IN, and this place is way ahead of its time. Don't forget the salsas, had the Chipotle and smoked cashew ... Food was outstanding, service wonderful and ambiance was a 10/10. We shared all the dishes and even got to have Pacifico on tap! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and a fun, energetic ambiance. Also, the neighbourhood is great if you want to head out for a few drinks after.
