Elm Restaurant- CTVery goodMy wife and I went to Elm for our anniversary and were very pleased with our experience. We had the chef's tasting menu and found all courses to be both creative and tasty, from the crispy tuna to the foie gras cappelletti to the toasted coconut merengue with passion fruit curd and coconut sorbet. Based on previous reviews I anticipated that the portions would be small - and they were - but as long as you don't show up starving you can leave satisfied. I would definitely go back.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPricey But Worth ItElm has great food; some (including me) might be concerned by the portion sizes, but the food was fantastic. seems to be the current dichotomy of better establishments-women are content with a small amount of great food; men need a bit more.
And the European-style flushers are worth a trip!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was really very good.Food was really very good. Service was pretty good but the waiter srt of did what he wanted to do rather than what we wanted.
The restaurant was less busy than I expected. Not sure if that was because it was Sunday evening. But I think the menu is a little too fussy and a little too expensive for the suburbs.
They have all the right ingredients just needs a little more focus.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in New CanaanElm is tube st dining experience in New Canaan and one of the best in Fairfield County. It has an innovative menu that changes daily, uses fresh ingredients and never fails to impress. A little pricey, but worth it.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth a trip!We went on a Sunday dinner so the menu selections were more limited but what we had was superbly prepared, visually pleasing and delicious. Creative approaches to traditional ingredients. As good as the food was, the service was, if anything, better. The relatively compact wine list covers all the bases with an interesting selection of wines by the glass. The only thing missing was a good Cru Beaujolais which would have been a perfect choice with our varied entrees, one person had chicken, the other fish. I will return.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantIt is one of the few best restaurants in Fairfield County. All 4 courses and the wine were super. Waitress and staff very enthusiastic and friendly. Highly recommend it.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticGreat for a date, romantic evening, or if you just want some great food. We sat next to the kitchen and watched the cooking. The chef and staff all talked to us while they were cooking and came out to speak to us often. Answered all the questions we had. I had the beat salad (great flavors) and parpadello w duck confit (very good) followed by rhubarb crisp (amazing). She had asparagus (very flavorful), halibut in a curry sauce (yum), and bread pudding. They provide plenty of extra small dishes complimentary along the way including a Pre dessert of graham crackers pineapple and vanilla Ice cream that was out standing.
Definitely will come back.
Super friendly chef.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD!OUTSTANDING in every way. Lovely hostess, excellent waiter and the food was spectacular. We ordered a salad with beets, goat cheese and burnt orange...almost too beautiful to eat. The combination of flavors was fresh, bright and sophisticated. We were then presented with shot glasses of some sort of green foam with crunchy bits in it. I have NO IDEA what it was but it was delicious ( ok..so we couldn't hear the waiter very well but he was really nice). For entrees we had the miso scallops and the pea pasta (can't remember what it was called) both were deeeeeelicious! We did not order dessert but we wer again presented with a yummy freebie..2 pieces of house made milk chocolate with cocoa nibs and cranberries. YUM! GO!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and ever-changingExcellent food and ever-changing menu keeps it very interesting.
