  • "All good especially Max who is remarkable at pairing wine selections with food choices. No one better!"

  • "My fiancee and I went to Elm for dinner and ordered the tasting menu. The portions were small, the waiters too soft spoken where half the time I had no idea what I was eating, and the food did not always make sense. The pasta dish was too small and some plates, like the Halibut, were so busy I couldn't make sense of what was going on and the flavors didn't seem to work together at all. The brisket was great, but the spicy cabbage that came with it overpowered the dish. The biggest issue we had was that we left hungry and for the price we paid with tip, it was not worth it. I've had fewer dishes at Per Se's Salon (their tasting portions) and left fuller and able to justify a check identical to Elm's. This place left me confused and annoyed."

  • "Fantastic food: americano-franco-asian? very innovative, great flavors and textures. cool decor. knowledgeable and friendly staff. My favorite in CT so far, after 3 years of living here. So delicious."

  • "We really enjoyed the food in Elm restaurant. It's a high end meals in the casual settings. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. The only concern was that it took the kitchen very long time for our dishes to come out…. Hopefully next time it won't happen, as we are looking forward to return again."

  • "The brunch at Elm is delicious and offers a nice variety without being overwhelming. The service is outstanding. Attentive without being intrusive. The presentation of everything is top-notch. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Great meal all around - the confit of cod dish is a must have, it is absolutely incredible. The dining experience was better than the last time I went to Elm. Only issue was that the time between our appetizers and entrees was very long - I think it was at least 20 minutes."

  • "Brian and his staff continue to do a great job with food and service."

  • "I found Elm because they were on a list of restaurants to which Millstone Farm supplies its free-range chicken eggs. So, I thought Elm would be more conscious of nutritious foods. From what I observed, however, Elm has the same old white flour and sugar you can find anywhere else. On another note, the acoustics were horrible. I had a hard time hearing my family across the table from me. Get some carpet or tapestries, or something to cut the reverberation. Our waitress was great. She was very attentive and discerned that we were in a hurry, so she sped us through getting the bill paid."

  • "food was lovely... portions quite small... prices quite large. Very nice experience in spite of criticizm."

  • "Three of us had Sunday brunch. My Jonah Crab Benedict was very good, though the hollandaise lacked much lemon punch. My wife's omelette (mushroom and goat cheese) didn't have much goat cheese flavor and my daughter's short rib hash was greasy and much more potato than short rib. Breads were so-so and the sweet spread that accompanied them though apparently homemade had so little flavor, none of us could figure out what it was, Service was very slow and there were too many uncoordinated servers. Had to ask for salt & pepper and for sugar for coffee. We wanted to like the restaurant, as a good brunch is not easy to find in our area, but overall it was a disheartening experience."

  • "had brunch this weekend at Elm. The restaurant decor was nice and the food was delicious...The service was bad...too many other good places to go in town, will not return."

  • "I recently brought my girlfriend to Elm for her birthday, and we were both extremely happy with every aspect of our dining experience. Brian Lewis, the chef/owner, did an amazing job at satisfying all our foodie needs and went above and beyond our expectations. We highly recommend Elm to anyone in the area and will be back many times to come. Thanks!"

  • "Food was superb - great combinations and flavors. Not forced or contrived but a chef who has a solid love of food. Service was good, at times a little pushy. The one downside was the noise. We couldn't at times hear each other. Perhaps that was because it was Saturday night but it was at times intense."

  • "I went to Elm to with a friend for a nice dinner. Everything was outstanding from start to finish. Service was friendly, chef stopped by to chat and say hello. I had the halibut and my friend had the short rib...there was nothing left on either of our plates but that did not keep us from eating the mouth watering lemon mousse. I immediately came home and told my husband that we have to go. Best restaurtant by far in lower Fairfield County. I will be back."

  • "Elm is for the foodies that want something different when going out for dinner. The preparation is unique and combinations are wonderful. The food was cooked to perfection and we came away very satisfied. We felt we had a wonderful dining experience and at a fair market value."

  • "We had tried this restaurant when it first opened and hoped to like it but was a bit disappointed. Our experience this time was completely different. The staff was very professional and the Chef came to our table to make sure we were happy with our dinner. The food, needless to say, was outstanding. The whole evening was perfect AND because the music was just at the right level you could speak in normal tones to your dinner partner - what a delight!"

  • "I don't often write reviews. I am very particular about food and most often am disappointed. I had brunch at Elm this weekend and the food was outstanding. I had the brisket hash with eggs and it was fabulous. For dessert, we shared pineapple tapioca brulee and I loved it. I almost never go back to a restaurant a second time yet I can't wait to revisit Elm."

  • "If you're looking for great food, super service, and a happy atmosphere you can do no better than Elm. I particularly liked the kale salad and bloody mary. The menu was good and it took some time to make a selection. The waiter was particularly attentive and kind. It is nice to have a great meal in this area then stroll around the charming town."

  • "I was here for dinner with my husband and my parents over the holidays. The food and drinks were delicious, I had a Nunsense (rum, cherries, quince). I started with the Osetra toasts and then had a half order of the foie gras capellini. The half order was tiny, i.e. two tablespoons, but it is a rich dish, and my mom had a half order of a different pasta entree and hers was much bigger. Our server was also great, very professional and unobtrusive. The only problem was the hostess - although there were lots of empty tables at 6:30, she first gave us a table by the door (on a very cold night). When my father said no, she put us right next to a two-top where the woman was very loud. Luckily they did not stay too long."

  • "We went to Elm to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was excellent. We never had to wait for any request. We were seated immediately in a nice booth. Everything was better than any restaurant I have been to in a long time. The appetizers were the best. I have never had fois gras prepared so perfectly and the kale caesar salad was delicious. It was worth every penny and we are going again next Saturday!"

  • "We love coming to Elm to try an amazing new seasonal dish. The menu never disappoints and the staff at Elm are charming and friendly and it's obvious they love being there."

  • "We enjoyed our meal from start to finish, with one minor exception. We started with the Kale Caesar salad and mushrooms and cauliflower with miso mayonnaise. Both were great. Two different fish dishes that we very different in style and were perfectly cooked. The only let down of the night was the dessert course, which was an almond cake with concord grape sauce. Too salty. So much so, you could not taste the other flavors in the dessert. The service was excellent."

  • "We always love our dinners at ELM. The chef makes us creative and delicious vegan meals which we return for again and again. Definitely one of our favorite places to dine."
    Dined on 12/11/2013
  • "Food was very good. Location and ambience are great. However, it is much too noisy (Sunday bruch) even for a neighborhood restaurant."
    Dined on 12/8/2013
  • "Had the Open House Special. Bellini, Tempura Mushrooms and Asian Chicken salad. The mushrooms were heavy, greasy and lacking in taste. The salad was wonderful!"
    Dined on 12/7/2013
  • "It was a busy night, Christmas Stroll in New Canaan, perhaps that accounted for the slower service. The food, however, was worth the wait. The Kale Caesar salad was delicious. Kale chopped in small ribbons and just enough dressing. Followed by the duck which was perfectly cooked. Can't wait to return."
    Dined on 12/6/2013
  • "Food was delicious but there was a party happening in the back room and even though we sat in the front it was hard to have conversation at our table."
    Dined on 12/3/2013
  • "This is an excellent restaurant with a French pedigree to brag on. The food was spectacular for brunch. Consistent with the regional cuisine, the dishes were very butter-heavy, so if that is not your favorite, then go once every couple months instead of every week...it's worth it!"

  • "Have eaten at Elm many a time and the food and the experience is top rate. Thanksgiving turkey was the best ever. Thanks Brian for being open this year, it made eating out on Thanksgiving memorable."

  • "Great for a single or for the holidays! Thanksgiving was delicious!"

  • "The food is extraordinary. Chef Lewis has a genius for using unique but complementary tastes and textures, without being forced or contrived. At least once every meal my girlfriend and I taste something and roll our eyes as if to say, "How could something be this good?" The service is superior - the waitstaff is knowledgeable and attentive, without being overly pushy. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Max - I believe he is the manager - who has a steel trap memory and a deep knowledge of both his menu and wine list. Trust him to pair for you. Elms is not inexpensive. But the food is typically such a revelation we always feel like we got more than our money's worth."
