We recommend previewing the menu before going. Even though we really like "different" from the usual menus, this menu seemed a bit of a challenge. The core choices meat, fish, pasta were fine but the combinations were hard to imagine. Dinner is not inexpensive either. That said, we loved the atmosphere and the service. It was quiet enough to actually have good conversation ! I could imagine going often for wine and appetizers at the lovely bar.

Elm's wine list and menu are amazing. Service is excellent even when they're crazy busy. The bacon & eggs and oysters are a must as well as the Foie Gras and cheese plate. The halibut and beef tenderloin were spectacular. Max's wine pairing was perfect. He knows his customers and his food. Can't wait to go back.

This restaurant knows how to weave a number of flavors together for drinks, salads, soups and entrees to give a wonderful and complex taste sensation. The food is beautifully displayed and garnished so it looks appetizing even before you taste it. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I would go back in a heartbeat - too bad I live 2hrs. away in North Jersey.

We were disappointed with both the food and the service. We ordered the crunchy tuna to start and enjoyed it. I ordered the tagliatelli neri and my husband ordered the beef brisket. Service was very slow. I was disappointed that after requesting garlic crumbs to be omitted there were still large pieces of garlic in the dish. Also, I found numerous shell fragments, and one large piece of shell in my dish. My husband described his brisket as "fine". We ordered cookies for dessert, as we were celebrating a birthday, and they were very good, though once again service was slow. When the bill came, there was an extra $30 glass of wine on our bill. Overall, we had hoped for more and do not plan to return.

Good, attentive service and very fine food. We had the Crispy Tuna, Oysters, Halibut, and Scallops. All were tasty and well prepared. Portions rather small, so we ended with dessert, which is not usual for us. Toffee Pudding and Strawberry cake both superb. So food and service get high marks, but Elm is quite expensive relative to comparable restaurants, and the dining room was deafeningly loud the night were were there.

We come back here time and again and are never disappointed. This time it was a fabulous lobster and burrata salad (it works, trust me) and the amazing bacon and eggs appetizers, followed by the organic, perfectly made chicken and the tagliatelli neri with sea urchin and crab. My wife went for the fabulos cookies for dessert, and the wine selections are well edited and in the reasonable range.

This is a foodie place that is obviously doing well given the busy room. My wife had the tenderloin, which was the most expensive item. It was an excellent piece of meat (at $48) but buried in an oppressive sauce that might as well have had hamburger under it. My cod was fine. The wine by the glass was very expensive. Noise level was too high for my taste. Overall it was good but given the prices should have been superlative.

We have eaten weekend lunch/brunch twice at this restaurant, and have been favorably impressed both times. I absolutely adore the tables by the large windows that look out on Elm Street: great for people-watching (such as it is in New Canaan). The menu changes seasonally. My husband ordered a "chicken Caesar salad" and was unexpectedly faced with a plate of kale that he was very suspicious of, but absolutely loved it and ate every bite. My mom had the wild mushroom omelette that was generously chock full of wild mushrooms and cooked "soft" to her request. My BLT was disappointing only in that the bread was oversized such that it was actually too hard to eat as a sandwich; somehow it seems wrong to eat a BLT with a knife and fork.

Elm was incredible! My wife and I shared the crunchy tuna appetizer, and it was amazing. My wife ordered the duck and loved it. My halibut was very good, but not spectacular, which was unlike the rest of the meal (I did try my wife's duck, and it was wonderful). We shared a side of risotto and it was perfect, perhaps the best risotto I've ever had. Our server was bubbly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable. Her description of each of our dishes was detailed and spot on. Elm even got the little things right - our water glasses, which are so often empty at other venues, were never allowed to be more than half empty (or less than half full, for the optimists). Overall, a perfect evening. We plan to go back to Elm many, many times.

We celebrated our anniversary by having dinner at Elm. It was our first time there and we hD heard good things. It surpassed all of our expectations by a wide margin. The food was inventive. The ingredients were presented in novel combinations. The atmosphere was elegant but not stuffy. But most of all, the staff was really into it: very knowledgeable, upbeat, good sense of humor and attentive without any hovering. It was great. Only qualm: music (good) was a touch loud.

I generally am suspicious of chefs that have a lot of ingredients in each dish. When they have to be explained I find that the chef has gotten too full of him/herself and has gone over the edge. Not true at Elm. The dishes are complex but you can identify the ingredients. They all complement each other. This is made all the better because the menu changes by season or what is available. I had the chef's tasting menu the other night and each course was different and interesting. Definitely was not left starving. Service is great - attentive but not all over you.

All the food at Elm was impeccably plated and deliciously executed. Starting with the crudo of sea scallop, urchin and trout roe (a visual stunner), to the pork belly (a must!!!) to the kussi raw oysters that exploded with a sea water creaminess and the beets with goat cheese (top 5 beet experiences). I had the elm burger served on a beautiful wood platter made from a tree section, the burger was addictive. I was so satiated from the appetizers that I had little room to finish but couldn't stop because the burger was so delicious. Even the chef came out to make sure all was OK (especially the new addition of the pork belly) and it was more than OK! Will be back again!

We enjoyed our food at elm. However after a change in our party size I asked the restaurant NOT to mention my husbands birthday as originally requested. They said they understood and then at the end if dinner still came out with a big dessert with flaming candle and happy birthday message. It was also difficult to get the bartender's attention because the entire staff was so busy watching a movie on the screen that is oddly set up at the end of the bar. They also have some cool old cocktail books out on the bar and so I picked one from there, but then the bartender proceeded to act confused and ask me if the drink required a blender "um, your book!" Then he realized he couldn't make it. I did end up enjoying the farmers daughter cocktail.

Quiet for a Tuesday night, but service and food were spot on and delicious. We started with the beets which were very fresh and served with a delicious soft goat cheese, followed by the frito misto which was an assortment of veggies lightly fried in a tempura batter not greasy at all...crisp and fresh! Homemade parkerhouse type rolls were then delivered and were too tempting to let sit, soft, moist and incredibly satisfying. We also ordered the tuna which was thinly sliced and wrapped around avocado again a big hit with everyone. The in-house homemade pasta with lobster put us all over the top we loved it, slightly garlicky but worth it! Sadly we were too full for dessert...looking forward to the next time!

Extraordinary food; beautifully creative presentation; exquisite flavor combinations and accents. One of the all-around greatest culinary experiences we have had in quite a while. All complemented by attentive, friendly (but totally unobtrusive) service that was completely informed and familiar with every detail of the food and preparation. We've eaten here 3-4 times for Sunday brunch and been pleased with the food. Three of us came for dinner. The specialty cocktails were good, not great. I make better deviled eggs, though the presentation was nice. We were all excited for the heirloom tomato salad at this time of year, but it was under-seasoned and nothing special. The burger was good, as was the English pea sachetti. The one real highlight was the spring vegetable risotto--perfect in every way. We passed on dessert. We sat in a booth on the bar side, because there was a special event on the dining room side which was noisy, but we could hold a conversation. Would come back for brunch, probably not dinner.

The host, Max, was fantastic - sat us down, made small talk and when he heard it was our first time there he immediately brought us two complimentary glasses of champagne and a couple of oysters. We went for Father's Day and were seated immediately. They gave us a nice booth for myself, my husband 7 yr old and infant. We waited a long time for a server to speak to us. Finally, the hostess noticed and asked if we'd like water. They brought that 5 minutes later, but it took another 10 for anyone to come take our drink order. 1 cappuccino, 1 coffee and 1 pineapple juice took 15 minutes (it took another 5-10 minutes at the end of the meal after my husband asked for a refill on his coffee). The food came out swiftly and was warm, but the eggs on our eggs benedict were so runny that my husband thought they had just used the yolk - although perhaps that was the intention? Food good, but not overly spectacular.
