Diner Reviews
  • "Very good! While I like steak, sometimes it nice to get really good food that is not steak. Ellerbe's offers steak, but that is not main attraction. They offer a variety of other entrees, usually local, with a very "foody" touch. Recommended"

  • "We love this little place. I had the Antelope Osso Bucco and my husband had the steak du jour. The Osso Bucco was nice though a little salty for my taste; the accompanying polenta was wonderful . My husband's steak had a nice smoky flavor to it. My desert was the upside down cake was fantastic and this is probably the best coffee I have had at a restaurant in Fort Worth ever. Service was superb though a little slower than most places, in the vein of a traditional European dinner which has its merits when you have the evening to kill. The wine list was...meh. Nothing jumped out at me. The few I recognized were over priced even by upscale restaurant standards and I didn't see any great desert wines. Overall, a total win though."

  • "If you want to dine at a restaurant that is a real treasure, this is the place. Scrumpcious food, attentive service, and fine dining are here in the environs of an old gas station. A delightful evening."

  • "My wife and I have dined at Ellerbe's numerous times over the past 4 years. This meal was by far the best. Her duck confit was outstanding and my veal was uniquely excellent. Desserts were original and excellent too. Ellerbe's wine list also offers fine alternatives to the high priced Napa reds, such as the Browne "tribute" blend. A+."

  • "My wife will agree to go nowhere else except Ellerbe for her birthday...we are never disappointed. Food and service are always top-flight, and we always find a new wine to love from their wine list."

  • "Everything was great. The food was fantastic and our service was expeditious. The noise level was a little loud, but not distracting."

  • "I have loved Ellerbe since I first ate here in '09. It was the first restaurant to really launch Magnolia Avenue as a premier location in DFW for innovative dining and the first restaurant in DFW to really do farm-to-table as something more than an advertising pitch, etc. Since Ellerbe opened, the restaurant scene in DFW has exploded with lots of choices, probably more than a few of them inspired by Ellerbe and its success. But Ellerbe still has it, and has gotten better with age. Everything tastes fresh, every dish is inventive and is certainly nothing you could make on your own (and if it is, you need to start looking for space on Magnolia Ave). In close - EAT HERE *if* you can get a table! It's getting harder and harder every day!"

  • "It is not often that a restaurant lives up to its hype, but Ellerbe is everything that its reviewers claim it to be. A wonderful meal at a sensible price point...I've paid far more for less. A+++ to kitchen, servers and hostess."

  • "Both appetizers of tart and chili soup were outstanding! We had the redfish and chef's steak for the main course. All while relaxing on the patio - our waiter Joe took care of us wonderfully. We will be back!!"

  • "Had a wonderful business lunch at Ellerbe and could not have been happier with the entire experience. The food, service and ambiance were top notch. Loved the citrus salad with grapefruit and avocado and a wonderful twist on the traditional pimento cheese sandwich. This is comfort taken to a much more sophisticated level. Highly recommended!"

  • "Ellerbe is consistantly one of the best restaurants in Texas. The fried oysters were the best that I have ever had. You cannot go wrong at this place, everything is perfection."

  • "My daughter had recently taken a position at one of the medical center hospitals and we had dinner on a Wednesday night. We dined early but there was still a good crowd. The restaurant's service was very good. The waiter was very personable and gave great selection ideas for wine and food. The food was very fresh and presented well. The overall restaurant is very modern, yet with a clean and fresh farmhouse feel. I travel a lot and try to eat at better restaurants in towns I visit. This is a very nice place and you will enjoy it with friends, family or just a couple on a date."

  • "As in Austinite I am familiar with farm table dining and am a fan of it. But now I can have farm to table dining in beautiful area of downtown Fort Worth. I love this restaurant that has been beautifully created from an old gas station. I love the ambience and the waiter knew every nuance about the dishes that were being prepared. I will be going to Ellerbe again and again and telling all my friends about it."

  • "This was my second visit to this restaurant in less than a month. The food and service were excellent both times, actually the service was outstanding on the second trip. I can definitely recommend the heirloom tomato salad, the osso buco, the trout and the bread pudding."

  • "Pork chop was tough, didn't send it back to avoid ruining Valentine's day but I will definitely not go back to this place. Feel like I was robbed of 250 bucks. Save your money and go elsewhere."

  • "Wonderful place and now an anchor on the burgeoning Magnolia scene, we took the opportunity to walk the ten blocks after dinner, to see the sites and sounds, seek a coffee or cocktail or desert for fun elsewhere. Ellerbe's food is creative and well executed, with plenty of lighter fare options. The steak - wonderfully flavorful, yet creative, in that it was an unusual cut - not the typical filet, but rather a cut with a bit more grain and interest, more akin to a London Broil or and served in an equally creative manner. Plenty of seafood and lighter options too."

  • "In town for the long weekend we searched Open Table for a very nice place. Another night we went to a much fancier restaurant and left a bit disappointed. Ellerbee's was a "roll the dice" choice that hit it big. Our waiter was Scott. Incredibly witty, fun and knowledgeable. This guy knows his stuff. Service was outstanding. Dinner was outstanding. GREAT choice and would would never miss going back when we return to Fort Worth"

  • "We made a reservation 2-weeks out for Vday dinner thru Open Table, and 9:30pm was the ONLY time available. We chose that, and were called a few days later and asked for a credit card to hold the reservation. Maybe I'm out of date, but we make reservations ALL THE TIME and have never been asked for that, so I found it offensive. We get there, the atmosphere wasn't stellar (boring - no music and bright lights) and there's a set menu for $75pp, which was not specified on Open Table & we were not told that when they called to confirm, otherwise I would have asked what it was before confirming. Food was adequate, but nothing about the night felt special...not worth $75. Service was GREAT, but the rest fell short. Probably won't return."

  • "Dinner was a bit disappointing. Not what we expected from the rave reviews and it being a Michelin restaurant. Pork Chop was tough. only 2 entres were presented, 3 represented. Made reservation online, did not represent that it would be a fixed menu, only notified the day before, it was then too late to find a Sat. reservation for Valentine weekend. Glad we went, won't return."

  • "I enjoy Ellerbe's several times a year, both dinner and lunch. Made a reservation this past Saturday (actually surprised I could get one on such late notice). We arrive and are confronted by the "Valentines Day" all inclusive menu - the day AFTER Valentines. My inclination was to pass and leave, but I didn't want to spoil my companions evening. We did the thing ($75 / head), with the not very exceptional wine pairing ($35 / head). No option on the appetizer (snails), so we passed. The soup was good, the main course pretty mediocre (table next to us sent back due to temp) and the desert was basic cafeteria. But since we had V day pricing, the bill was about twice what I'd usually spend at Ellerbe."

  • "Loved the food...loved the service. We were met at the door and promptly shown to our table. We order the matching wine flight with our diner and each match was well balanced and pleasant. No way could we have done that on our own. Overall we had a great evening..."

  • "Ellerbe may have Fine food, but they certainly aren't a Fine dining experience. We went there on Valentine's Day, long before the dinner crowd showed up, yet were rushed through our 4 courses faster than McDonald's serves burgers! While the restaurant claimed to have a Valentines Day french menu, little on the menu was french. The Boeuf Bourguignon dish had more potatoes than beef, and the Trout was bland. Our server mis-timed the paired wines with the food, and we were never asked if we wanted an after dinner drink or coffee. The meal wasn't worth the $200 we paid, and the small pours of wine were definitely overpriced."

  • "My Wife and I went to Ellerbe for Valentines Day Dinner. The food was perfect with a fixed menu for the evening. Portions were just right to enjoy the meal without feeling stuffed. Our waiter, David, was outstanding! attentive and talkative without hovering or interrupting. Love this place for any occasion!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated Valentine's at Ellerbees. We have eaten here several times in the past. The food was as good as always. It's a great restaurant with unique menu. It was a somewhat fixed menu for Valentines due to the number of customers. You had a choice of salad or soup, choice of three main dishes and choice of dessert. The wine pairing we awesome. My on complaint, which I voiced to the waiter was to slow down the food. Everyone got a snail n pastry appetizer with sparkling wine. Our soup and salad camp before we were finished with appertizer. After that it slowed down. This was due to it being Valentine Day, this has never happened to us before. We'll go back but not for a Valentine meal."

  • "The menu at Ellerbe changes every so often, so my second visit was a chance to experience a different menu than before. The food was once again excellent, from the steak that I ordered to the stuffed veal that my girlfriend enjoyed. This is definitely an experience for foodies, as every main is perfectly paired with delicious sides, which are far superior to your run-of-the-mill mashed potatoes or mixed vegetables. The atmosphere is nice for a small group or date night, and when the weather is warm the patio is a fantastic option. Definitely recommended again!"

  • "Always great food and service! Noise level was a little more energetic than usual... had more tables perhaps? Seemed a bit crowded in comparison to prior visits. BUT that being said, we WILL come again. Nothing like it in the area - fresh food with a smile, delectable flavors and surprising combinations with every satisfying bite!! Thanks for the great night."

  • "the four of us enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Ellerbe's. Our server David was FANTASTIC, fun, knew all the ins and outs for great food. His suggestions for both wine and lunch were right on. As well as his knowledge of where the breads and cheeses came from, how they came about to be part of the menu. Then of course we tried desserts - Superb! In total - an awesome experience and will be sure to return soon."

  • "Menu choices: good range with accurate descriptions. Service: excellent, suggestions appropriate, pacing between courses was prompt and didn't leave one wondering if the ticket was lost in the kitchen or if the plates were gathering room temperature while the server lingered somewhere. Portion sizes were right on. Butternut squash soup was quite tasty, entrees well prepared, presentation quite attractive. Only caveat, the bread pudding stated as the signature dessert dish, while tasty and sized to share, lacked imaginative touch. Wine list: attractively sized with some excellent choices and appropriate price range. Dining here is not a theatrical experience but has quality ingredients, excellently prepared and served with panache."

We have not regretted it ... the food was excellent, the service was very friendly and there was a nice atmosphere! If we ever come back to Texas, I'm sure we'll return to Ellerbe Fine Foods ...!"
